Construction management titles are slippery. "Construction manager" can mean a general contractor's project manager, a senior leader over several jobs, or a firm hired by an owner to manage the builders. "Project manager" without "construction" returns IT and marketing project managers by the thousand. "Superintendent" returns school district leaders. And the same person may be a project engineer, an assistant project manager, a project manager and a senior project manager within eight years.

The sector, project size and software sort it out. Below are ten strings by construction role, and what LinkedIn, Indeed and Google support as of October 2026. For project managers outside construction, see Boolean search strings for project managers.

Sectors, software and credentials that change what a construction search finds

Project size"$50M," "ground-up," "high-rise," "TI"Scale they have actually run
SoftwareProcore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction CloudHow their last company ran projects

  • CCM. CMAA's certification arm awards the Certified Construction Manager (CCM), alongside the Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM) and Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT). CMAA publishes a CCM directory, as of October 2026.
  • CPC and CAC. The American Institute of Constructors awards the Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) and the Certified Associate Constructor (CAC), which its site says was formerly called AC. Candidates may still write "AC."
  • PMP. PMI's Project Management Professional appears on many construction profiles, especially at owners and program managers. See the project manager guide above for its search terms.
  • LEED. USGBC lists LEED Green Associate and LEED AP with specialties such as BD+C (Building Design + Construction). LEED AP BD+C is the one most relevant to builders.
  • OSHA 30 is a card, not a certification. OSHA's Outreach Training Program page says its courses are not certifications. Search it as an optional term.

Ten Boolean strings by construction role

Swap in the sector, software and metro from your own intake; these are examples.

Contractor-side managers

1. Commercial construction project manager — LinkedIn general search
("construction manager" OR "construction project manager" OR "senior project manager") AND ("general contractor" OR "construction management") AND (procore OR "primavera p6") NOT ("property manager" OR "it project manager" OR recruiter)

2. Healthcare construction manager — LinkedIn Recruiter, Job titles + Keywords filters
("construction manager" OR "senior project manager" OR "project manager") AND (hospital OR healthcare OR "medical office") AND (icra OR "infection control" OR "occupied facility")

3. Data center or mission-critical builder — LinkedIn general search
("construction manager" OR "project manager") AND ("data center" OR "mission critical") AND (commissioning OR "mep coordination") NOT ("data center technician" OR "facilities technician")

4. Heavy civil project manager — LinkedIn general search
("construction manager" OR "project manager") AND ("heavy civil" OR earthwork OR bridge OR highway) AND ("cost to complete" OR quantities OR "dot projects")

Field leaders and the pipeline

5. Construction superintendent — Indeed Smart Sourcing
("superintendent" OR "general superintendent" OR "site superintendent") AND skill: (scheduling OR "quality control" OR "osha 30") AND ("general contractor" OR jobsite) NOT ("school superintendent" OR "superintendent of schools" OR "school district")

6. Project engineer or assistant PM — Indeed Smart Sourcing
("project engineer" OR "assistant project manager") AND skill: (rfis OR submittals OR "change orders") AND fieldofstudy: "construction management"

7. Owner's representative — LinkedIn general search
("owner's representative" OR "owners rep" OR "owner's rep" OR "program manager") AND construction AND ("capital projects" OR "design and construction" OR "project delivery")

8. Certified construction manager — LinkedIn Recruiter, Keywords filter
("construction manager" OR "project manager") AND ("certified construction manager" OR ccm OR "certified professional constructor" OR pmp OR "leed ap")

Search-engine X-ray

9. Public profiles by sector and metro — Google X-ray
site:linkedin.com/in ("construction manager" OR "senior project manager") "procore" "healthcare" "nashville" -jobs -recruiter

10. Public resumes with construction tools — Google X-ray, filetype search
filetype:pdf "construction project manager" resume ("procore" OR "primavera") "change orders" -template -sample

What LinkedIn, Indeed and Google actually support

As of October 2026, LinkedIn's Boolean help page requires AND, OR and NOT in capitals, supports quotes and parentheses, and does not support wildcards. Apostrophes and abbreviations vary, so write "owner's rep," "owners rep" and "owner's representative" out separately. "CCM" is short and may match other uses; pair it with the spelled-out title. LinkedIn Recruiter's Boolean page warns that very long queries can cause problems, so put titles in the Job titles filter.

Indeed's Boolean guide documents the skill: field and the fieldofstudy: and school: education fields, which strings 5 and 6 use. Superintendents and project engineers are well represented on resume databases. Google's search operators page documents quotes, site:, the minus sign and filetype:, but not OR; check once whether an X-ray's OR block is doing anything.

Narrowing by project size and delivery method

Project size is the most reliable seniority signal in construction. A project manager who has run $5 million tenant improvements and one who has run $200 million hospitals have the same title. Candidates often write the dollar value; add the client's range as a block, such as ("$50m" OR "$75m" OR "$100m"), in a later pass, and confirm the figure on the call because resumes round up.

Delivery method matters for owners and public clients. Design-build, CM at risk and design-bid-build each put the manager in a different relationship with the designer and the owner. Add ("design-build" OR "cm at risk" OR cmar) when the client's projects are delivered one way and it wants someone used to it.

False positives worth excluding with NOT

  • School superintendents. Exclude "school superintendent," "superintendent of schools" and "school district" from every superintendent search.
  • Non-construction project managers. "IT project manager," "software" and "marketing project manager" profiles flood any search on project manager alone.
  • Property and facilities managers. "Property manager" and "facilities manager" profiles mention renovations and contractors without running construction.
  • Estimators, when the role runs projects. Estimators list the same sectors and software. See the construction estimator screening questions if the client needs preconstruction instead.
  • Construction lenders and sales. "Construction loan," "loan officer" and "account manager" profiles at suppliers use construction vocabulary without building anything.

A worked example: three passes on a healthcare project manager search

An invented search, shown as it actually gets narrowed.

Intake: A mid-size general contractor needs a senior project manager for hospital renovations in occupied buildings, $10 million to $40 million, using Procore.

Pass 1: "project manager" AND hospital: thousands of results, mostly hospital IT and clinical project managers.

Pass 2: ("construction project manager" OR "senior project manager") AND (hospital OR healthcare) AND ("general contractor" OR procore) NOT ("it project manager" OR "clinical project manager"): relevant, but it includes ground-up builders who have never worked around patients.

Pass 3: add AND (icra OR "infection control" OR "occupied" OR "phasing"). Those terms tend to come from people who have renovated live hospitals. The list is short enough to call, and the screen asks how they kept an operating department open during the work.

The infection control terms did more than the sector word. In construction, the conditions of the work often say more than the building type.

What a search cannot verify

A string can find someone whose profile names the right sector and software. It cannot show whether they ran the job or supported the person who did, how they handled a schedule that slipped, or whether the project value is accurate. The construction project manager screening questions and construction superintendent screening questions test that, and the 30-60-90 day plan for construction project managers helps set expectations after the hire. For design-side roles, see Boolean search strings for civil engineers.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between a construction manager and a construction project manager?

It depends on the company. At many general contractors the titles are interchangeable; at others, construction manager means someone overseeing several projects or the firm acting as construction manager for an owner. Search both titles together and let the sector and project size sort out the level.

Is the CCM worth searching for?

As an optional term, yes. The Certified Construction Manager is awarded by CMAA's certification institute and has a public directory, which makes it easy to verify. Many strong builders hold no certification, so do not require it unless the client, often a public owner or program manager, asks for it.

Why does a superintendent search return school administrators?

Because "superintendent" is also the title of a school district's chief executive. Exclude "school superintendent," "superintendent of schools" and "school district" with NOT, and require construction words such as jobsite, general contractor or scheduling.

Is OSHA 30 a certification?

No. OSHA says its Outreach Training Program courses are not certifications; students receive a completion card. Many contractors expect field leaders to have the 30-hour card, so it is a useful optional term, but it shows training, not competence.
