Interview Signal saves interview content on the interviewer's own computer: transcripts, evidence quotes, candidate names, notes, scorecards and submittals live in a folder in your user profile and are never uploaded. Audio is sent in short chunks to a speech-to-text provider during the call and is not retained, and no audio file is created. Interview Signal's server keeps your account, your roles and templates, and one row of counts and durations per interview. This describes version 0.9.10 and the public security page, as of October 2026.
What stays on my computer?
Everything about a candidate:
- the full transcript, saved every few seconds while the call runs;
- the scorecard and every evidence quote on it;
- the candidate's name and the company or client;
- their CV, if you attached one;
- your notes, and your own scores;
- the consent choice you recorded;
- the submittal, and every export of it: Markdown, Word and the CSV file that "Add CSV row" adds to.
Each interview has its own folder, named by date, role and candidate, inside one interviews folder. Its details, the transcript, your notes and the submittal sit side by side, and exports are saved next to them so everything about one candidate stays together.
How do I find the interviews folder?
- Open Settings from the home screen.
- Under "Interviews on this computer", the app shows how many interviews are saved.
- Press "Open the folder" to see them in your file manager.
On the review screen of any interview, "Show files" shows that interview's own folder in your file manager.
What is sent during an interview, and to whom?
Two kinds of request leave your computer while the app works. Both go through Interview Signal's server, which passes them to the provider; the app talks to that one host and nothing else.
| What | Sent to | Kept? |
|---|---|---|
| Audio, in short chunks every few seconds while capturing | Speech-to-text: Groq, with OpenAI as the fallback | No. Processed and discarded; never written to a file |
| Text: the job description for a kit, the transcript for follow-ups and scores, and for the submittal the transcript, your notes, the role and the candidate name and company if you entered them | Text generation: Cerebras, Groq or OpenAI, depending on the task | Not by Interview Signal: its database has no column that can hold interview text |
| Extracts of an attached CV | The same model providers, with those requests | Not by Interview Signal |
The providers are named on the security page, which says all three are used under paid API terms under which submitted data is not used to train models. Paused stretches send nothing at all. How the audio is captured is in how Interview Signal records without a bot.
What does Interview Signal's server keep?
For each interview, one row with exactly these fields, as listed on the security page:
- interview id, organization and seat, role id and kit version;
- source (video, phone or in person), start and end times, duration and paused seconds;
- consent acknowledgement and jurisdiction label;
- questions total and covered, must-asks total and covered, follow-ups shown and used;
- scorecard areas and areas scored, and the fit score as a number;
- whether a submittal was exported and in which formats;
- app version and operating system.
The server refuses any request that carries another field, and the table has no free-text column. These numbers drive your coverage report and, on Team, the weekly coaching report. Besides that, the account holds your email, the agency or account name and its seats (billing details are held by Stripe), and the app sends short error reports, such as a microphone failing to open, which carry no interview content.
Are roles and job descriptions stored in the cloud?
Yes. A saved role (its title, job description, the client brief you typed, and the kit of questions, scorecard and consent notice) and your submittal templates are stored on your Interview Signal account. That is why a role appears on every computer you sign in on, and on Team why every recruiter sees it: the app confirms "Role saved. Every recruiter on the team sees it." A role holds no candidate information. The app keeps a copy of your roles so it opens usefully offline.
What does a panel share?
On a panel, each interviewer runs the app on their own computer. The panel shares which question numbers have been asked and the 1–10 scores, never names, quotes or anything anybody said.
How do I delete my data?
- Open Settings and find "Interviews on this computer".
- Press "Delete all local interviews".
- Type DELETE to confirm. Every transcript, scorecard and submittal on that computer is removed.
Deleting is immediate and cannot be undone, and there is no copy anywhere else. To remove the account itself, with its seats and every metadata row, email [email protected]; the security page commits to doing it within seven days. Sign-in is kept in the operating system's keychain, and "Sign out" in Settings ends it.
What if a candidate asks what you hold about them?
Interview Signal holds nothing that identifies a candidate: no name, no contact details and no interview content. What exists is on the interviewer's computer and is the agency's or employer's to answer for. A practical process is in how to handle candidate data access requests, and a retention rule you can adopt is in the candidate data retention policy template.
What are the limits?
- Interviews do not follow you to another computer. Roles sync to your account; interviews stay on the machine they were run on.
- There is no single-interview delete button in 0.9.10. "Delete all local interviews" removes everything; one interview is one folder in the interviews folder.
- Backups are yours. Interview Signal keeps no copy, so a lost or wiped computer means lost interviews unless you back up that folder.
- The computer's own security is yours, as with any file that holds candidate data.

Questions people ask
Does Interview Signal upload interview transcripts to the cloud?
No. Transcripts, evidence quotes, candidate names, notes and submittals are saved in a folder on the interviewer’s computer and never uploaded. During the call, text is sent to a model provider to produce follow-ups, scores and the submittal, but Interview Signal’s server keeps only counts and durations for each interview.
Does Interview Signal store the interview audio?
No. Audio is sent in short chunks to a speech-to-text provider while the interview runs, processed and discarded, and it is not retained by the provider or by Interview Signal. No audio file is ever written to the computer.
Can Interview Signal staff read my interviews?
No. Interview content is on the recruiter’s computer, which Interview Signal cannot reach, so it cannot be read for support, debugging or on request. The diagnostics the app can copy for support contain the app log and machine details, not interview content.
How do I delete my interviews from Interview Signal?
Open Settings, find Interviews on this computer and press Delete all local interviews, then type DELETE to confirm. It removes every transcript, scorecard and submittal on that computer at once and cannot be undone. To close the account itself, email [email protected].
