The main Fathom alternatives for recruiters as of October 2026 are Otter, Fireflies, Read AI and Granola for bot-free capture on Windows, where Fathom's own bot-free mode is still in a limited alpha; Fireflies and Read AI for phone screens run through the computer; Metaview for recruiting-specific notes across many applicant tracking systems; Bluedot for Ashby users; and Interview Signal for scorecards and submittals. Fathom's free plan is generous, so the reason to switch is usually a gap, not the price: Windows, phone screens or getting notes into an ATS.

We make Interview Signal, one of the tools below; everything about the other products comes from their own sites, linked and dated.

What does Fathom do well for hiring?

Fathom's free plan includes unlimited recordings and transcription, with a choice of bot-free capture (in beta) or its bot (Fathom pricing). Bot-free capture is live on Mac for Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Slack Huddles, needs macOS 14.2 or later, and can post a chat message telling attendees they are being recorded (Fathom help). Paid plans start at $16 a month billed annually for Premium. For hiring managers who interview on video a few times a month, that is hard to beat. Our Fathom for recruiting review covers setup and prompts.

Why do recruiters look for a Fathom alternative?

  • Windows. On Windows, bot-free recording is "in a limited Microsoft Teams alpha" (Fathom help), and Fathom's updates page lists Windows as coming soon (Fathom). Recruiters on a PC get the bot.
  • Phone screens. Fathom lists phone calls, such as Zoom phone calls, among what it does not record (Fathom help), and says it does not support uploaded calls (Fathom help). A recruiter who screens by phone has no way in.
  • No ATS. Fathom's integrations page lists CRMs, Slack, Zapier and similar tools but no applicant tracking system.
  • Scorecards built for sales. Fathom's AI Scorecards sit on its Business plan and are framed around sales coaching (Fathom pricing), not competency ratings for candidates.
  • Data and training. Fathom stores all data in the United States and uses de-identified customer data to improve its models, with an opt-out (Fathom help).

Each alternative, and who it suits

Otter

Otter's desktop app records without a bot on Windows 10 or later and macOS 12.3 or later (Otter help). Its free plan caps each conversation at 30 minutes, so for full interviews budget for Pro. Best for: hiring managers on a PC who want Fathom-style transcripts without the bot. See Otter for recruiting.

Fireflies

Fireflies' desktop app captures phone calls through FaceTime on a Mac and Phone Link on Windows, and turns on an audio consent message by default (Fireflies help). It also lists seven native ATS integrations. Best for: in-house recruiters who screen by phone and work in Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby.

Read AI

Read's desktop app runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and macOS 14 or later, records without a bot, and can capture dialer software calls; desktop recordings are audio only (Read AI help). Read's engagement and sentiment measures are a reason for care in hiring; our Read AI for interviews guide covers what to switch off. Best for: companies that already use Read across their meetings.

Granola

Granola now runs on Windows 10 or later with no bot (Granola), and keeps no meeting audio. Business is $14 per user per month. Best for: hiring managers who liked Fathom's simplicity and prefer to type their own notes.

Bluedot

Bluedot records without a bot through its desktop app or Chrome extension, and its Ashby integration posts the recommendation, summary and recording link to the candidate (Bluedot help); its pricing page puts ATS integrations on the Business plan (Bluedot pricing). Best for: Ashby customers who want notes on the candidate record.

Metaview

Metaview is a recruiting platform with a free Notetaker tier of 25 calls a month. It joins calls as a participant, and its desktop app for Mac and Windows, launched October 12, 2026, records without a bot (Metaview). Best for: recruiters who want interview-specific notes in their ATS. See Metaview alternatives.

Interview Signal

Ours runs on Windows 10/11 and macOS 13 or newer with no bot, beside Zoom, Teams, Meet and phone screens taken through the computer. It adds a live question guide from the job description, then a scorecard with the candidate's quotes checked against the transcript and a client submittal in your template. Weaknesses: no free plan as large as Fathom's (Free is 20 minutes, then hour packs from $9), no ATS integration, desktop only, no video recording, and few public reviews yet. Best for: recruiters who screen by phone and need a scorecard or submittal afterwards.

Which Fathom alternative fits your setup?

  • You are on a Windows PC and want no bot: Otter or Granola for notes; Interview Signal for interview output.
  • You screen candidates by phone: Fireflies, Read AI or Interview Signal, with the call routed through the computer. Our guide to recording a phone screen covers the setups.
  • You need notes on the candidate record: Fireflies, Metaview or Bluedot, depending on your ATS.
  • You are a Mac-based hiring manager doing video interviews: Fathom is probably still the right tool.

How should you trial a Fathom alternative?

  1. Pick the gap first. Write down the one thing Fathom does not do for you, such as phone screens on a PC, and test that before anything else.
  2. Use real interviews, with candidates told a note taker is running. Include at least one phone screen and one call hosted by someone else, such as a client or hiring manager.
  3. Avoid two note takers in one call. Make sure Fathom is not set to record the meetings you use to test, so the candidate does not see a bot and a second notice.
  4. Check the transcript where it matters: numbers such as salary and notice period, names of employers, and which speaker said each quote.
  5. Time the last step. Count the minutes from hanging up to a finished note in your ATS or a submittal your client can read. That number, more than accuracy, decides most switches.

Before the first test call, check your notice wording against our consent script, since a bot-free tool on Windows will not announce itself the way Fathom's bot does.

When should you keep Fathom?

Keep it if you interview on a Mac, on video, and a searchable record plus summary is what you need. Its free plan covers more recordings than any alternative here. Add a second tool only for the gap you actually have, such as phone screens, rather than replacing something that works. For the Windows picture across every tool, see our AI note takers for Windows comparison.

Questions people ask

What is the best Fathom alternative for recruiters on Windows?

As of October 2026, Fathom's bot-free capture is live on Mac but limited to a Microsoft Teams alpha on Windows. Recruiters on a PC who want no bot can use the Windows desktop apps of Otter, Fireflies, Read AI, Granola, Bluedot, Metaview or Interview Signal; Fireflies also captures phone calls through Phone Link.

Is there a free Fathom alternative for interviews?

Several have free tiers, all smaller than Fathom's unlimited free recordings: Metaview's free Notetaker covers 25 calls a month, Otter's Basic plan gives 300 minutes with a 30-minute cap per conversation, Read AI's free plan covers five meetings a month, and Granola's Basic plan keeps 30 days of notes, as of October 2026.

Which Fathom alternative can record phone screens?

Fathom lists phone calls and uploaded calls as unsupported. Fireflies' desktop app captures phone calls routed through FaceTime on a Mac or Phone Link on Windows, Read AI's desktop app records dialer software calls, Metaview uses a switchboard or calls from its app, and Interview Signal captures calls that run through the computer's audio.

Does any Fathom alternative connect to an applicant tracking system?

Yes. As of October 2026, Fireflies lists Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Loxo, Gem and BambooHR, Metaview lists a long catalogue of ATSs including Bullhorn and JobAdder, and Bluedot has a native Ashby integration. Fathom's integrations page names no ATS.
