Fellow is an AI meeting assistant sold on governance: it records interviews with a bot, without a bot from its desktop or mobile app, or through Zoom's own capture, then writes a transcript, summary and action items under admin-set rules for who may record, who can see recordings and how long they are kept. For recruiting that suits HR and in-house teams that need control over sensitive conversations. As of October 2026 it lists no applicant tracking integration, Business costs $15 per user a month billed annually, and its strongest candidate-notice feature, consent capture, is Enterprise-only and works only with Microsoft 365 calendars.

Below: Fellow's four ways to record and what the candidate sees in each, its plans in interview terms, the consent and retention settings, and where it stops for hiring. Every product fact links to fellow.ai or Fellow's help center and is dated October 2026. Our Otter and Granola reviews cover two lighter alternatives.

How does Fellow record an interview, and what does the candidate see?

Fellow's help article "Ways to record your meetings in Fellow" sets out the methods; the candidate column comes from its compliance article and botless recording page.

MethodPlatformsWhat the candidate sees from FellowInterview use
Note Taker botZoom, Google Meet, TeamsA participant that must be admitted, plus a message saying who invited it and that the call is recordedScheduled video interviews where a visible notice is wanted
Desktop botless (Mac, Windows)Any platform, including dialers and Slack huddlesNothing: external guests see no bot and get no notification from FellowVideo interviews and softphone screens
Zoom Native CaptureZoom only; needs a paid Fellow workspace, a paid Zoom account and host permissionsNo Fellow participant or message; Zoom's own recording indicator if your Zoom account shows oneZoom-heavy teams
Mobile botless (iOS, Android)The phone's microphoneWhatever you tell themIn-person interviews; not native phone calls

Fellow describes botless recording as "discreet yet governed": people inside your organization see that a meeting is being recorded, while external guests do not. A candidate is an external guest, so on a botless or Zoom Native Capture interview, the only notice the candidate gets is the one you give.

Phone screens and in-person interviews

  • Phone screens through the computer work with desktop botless recording, which Fellow says covers dialers. Allow microphone and screen recording permissions so the other side's audio is captured.
  • Phone screens on your mobile's dialer do not: Fellow's mobile article says native phone calls are not supported.
  • In-person interviews use the mobile app, which keeps recording when the phone locks and lets you apply an AI notes template while recording. Room setup is covered in our in-person interview guide.

What does Fellow cost for a recruiter?

From Fellow's pricing page, as of October 2026. Video retention is from its recording storage article, which says video is converted to audio after the period shown.

PlanPer user a monthAI notes and recordingsSeatsWhat matters for interviews
Free$05 of each, lifetimeUp to 5A trial only; recordings watchable for 14 days
Team$7 billed annually, $11 monthly10 notes per user per monthUp to 20Ten interviews a month is too few for a recruiter; video kept 1 year
Business$15 billed annually, $23 monthlyUnlimitedUp to 50Org-wide meeting templates, Salesforce and HubSpot integration, bot avatar customization
Enterprise$25 billed annually, from 10 usersUnlimitedUnlimitedAdvanced recording permissions, transcript redaction, domain control, user provisioning, security and legal reviews

As an example, a five-person in-house team on Business billed annually pays $15 × 5 × 12 = $900 a year; the same team needs ten seats to reach Enterprise, which at $25 is at least $3,000 a year.

What fits recruiting, and what does not?

Fellow's HR use-case page lists customizable interview templates, AI follow-up emails after candidate calls, recordings saved to private HR channels, and rules for when recording is allowed by meeting type, attendees or keywords. Those governance pieces are where Fellow is stronger than most general note takers.

  • Recording channels and access rules keep interview recordings away from people who should not hear them, such as a candidate's future peers.
  • Retention policies, including zero-day retention, on its homepage, support a schedule for candidate data; see how long to keep interview notes.
  • No training on your data: Fellow says meeting data is not used to train its models or its AI providers' models.
  • No ATS. The integrations page lists no applicant tracking system. The HR page says Fellow syncs with BambooHR and Workday, but Fellow's BambooHR and Workday pages describe importing employee profiles, titles and managers, not posting candidate notes.
  • No scorecard or submittal output. Templates shape the notes; rating against competencies and writing a client submittal stay with you.

How do interview notes get from Fellow into your ATS?

Without a native connection, there are three routes, all documented by Fellow as of October 2026:

  1. Use the Candidate Interview template. Fellow's AI note templates article lists a pre-built "Candidate Interview" template, and custom templates (on Business and above) let you arrange sections and link each item to its moment in the recording. Shape it around your competencies so the recap reads like scorecard evidence rather than meeting minutes.
  2. Download or copy the recap. Fellow's download article says you can export the video, the transcript or the full recap from the recording view, unless a workspace admin has turned downloads off. Paste the recap into the candidate's note in your ATS.
  3. Automate with Zapier. Fellow's Zapier page says the integration is on Team, Business and Enterprise, with triggers such as "New AI Note" and a manual "Note Sent to Zapier". If your ATS has a Zapier action for adding a note, that can post the recap to the candidate; test it on a dummy candidate first.

Whichever route you use, check names, numbers and quotes against the transcript before the notes reach a hiring manager, since a summary that misquotes a candidate is worse than no summary.

  1. Pre-meeting disclosure email. Fellow's disclosure feature emails selected attendees one hour before an auto-recorded meeting, with custom text. It is off by default; admins choose external invitees, or external and internal invitees without a Fellow account.
  2. Consent capture, if you are on Enterprise and Microsoft 365. Fellow's consent capture swaps the join link for a Fellow page where the candidate chooses "Agree to be recorded" or "Request not to be recorded". A decline is logged and the organizer sees a warning. Google Calendar support is planned, not live.
  3. Say the line anyway on botless calls, and stop recording if the candidate declines. Two-party consent states and is it legal to record a job interview explain where everyone's consent is required.
  4. Restrict access with a private recording channel for interviews.
  5. Set retention to match your policy, and know that redaction of a transcript or video is Enterprise-only.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Where does Fellow stop for recruiting?

  • No candidate record. Notes live in Fellow; your ATS gets them by hand or through an automation.
  • The best notice feature is gated. Consent capture needs Enterprise and Microsoft 365 Calendar.
  • Silent to candidates when bot-free. Botless and Zoom Native Capture show the candidate nothing from Fellow.
  • No mobile phone calls. Screens on your mobile's dialer cannot be captured.
  • Built for meetings, not interviews. No live list of must-ask questions and no structured scorecard.

Who should use Fellow for interviews?

A sensible choice if:

  • Your company already runs Fellow for meetings, and HR wants interviews under the same recording and retention rules.
  • You are an in-house team in a regulated industry where admins must control who records and who listens.
  • You are on Microsoft 365 and Enterprise, and want candidates to agree or decline before they join.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You are an agency recruiter whose output is a client submittal and an ATS note.
  • Your phone screens happen on your mobile; see our Plaud review for a device that records those.

We make Interview Signal, one alternative: a Windows and macOS app with no bot that captures video interviews and phone screens run through the computer, keeps a question guide on screen, and drafts a scorecard and submittal with quotes checked against the transcript, plus a read-aloud consent line and one-click pause. It has no ATS integration (you paste the output) and none of Fellow's admin governance. Everything about Fellow on this page comes from its own site, linked and dated.

Questions people ask

Does a candidate know when Fellow is recording the interview?

It depends on the method. As of October 2026 Fellow's bot appears as a participant and posts a recording message once admitted, but Fellow says external guests see no bot and get no notification from Fellow during a botless recording, and Zoom Native Capture shows no Fellow notice either. For bot-free capture, tell the candidate yourself or turn on Fellow's pre-meeting disclosure email.

Does Fellow integrate with Greenhouse, Lever or another ATS?

No. Fellow's integrations page lists no applicant tracking system as of October 2026. Its BambooHR and Workday integrations sync employee directory data such as names, titles and managers, not candidates, so interview notes reach an ATS by copying, export or an automation tool.

Can Fellow record a phone screen?

Only through a computer. Fellow says its desktop botless recording works on any platform, including dialers, so a softphone call works. Its mobile botless recording cannot capture a call made in the phone's native calling app, as of October 2026.

Which Fellow plan does a recruiter need?

Business, in most cases. As of October 2026 the Team plan at $7 per user a month billed annually allows 10 AI notes per user a month, while Business at $15 billed annually or $23 monthly has unlimited AI notes and recordings. Consent capture and redaction are on Enterprise, at $25 per user a month billed annually from 10 users.
