Alternatives to Gemini's Take notes for me for Google Meet interviews include Meet's own Transcripts feature, Tactiq, Bluedot, Fireflies, Otter, Metaview and Interview Signal. As of October 2026, Gemini in Meet writes meeting notes rather than a transcript, works only when the organizer's Workspace edition or Google AI plan includes it, supports eight languages with one per meeting, and can email the notes to every invited guest, including the candidate, unless the organizer changes that setting.
We make Interview Signal, one of the tools below; everything about the other products comes from their own sites, linked and dated. For Meet's built-in Transcripts, recording and retention in depth, read Google Meet interview transcription; this page compares what to use instead of, or alongside, Gemini's notes.
What does Gemini's Take notes for me do in an interview?
From Google Meet Help's Take notes for me article, as of October 2026:
- Who can use it. It needs "an eligible Google Workspace edition or Google AI plan," and the organizer's edition decides. With host controls on, only hosts and co-hosts can start or stop it.
- What participants see. Everyone is told notes are being taken and a pencil icon shows on their screen.
- What it produces. A notes document with Quick notes and Full notes tabs: summary, decisions, action items and details.
- Where it goes. The organizer's Drive, in a Google Meet folder, attached to the Calendar event. "Send notes to" can be all invited guests (including people outside the organization), internal guests, or hosts and co-hosts only.
- Limits. Google recommends meetings of 15 minutes to 8 hours and warns the notes "can be incomplete, inaccurate, or not generated." English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are supported, one language per meeting.
Google has also added Take notes with me for in-person meetings: its August 13, 2026 Workspace Updates post says it creates a Doc with notes, action items and a full transcript, on Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra, and some other editions. That helps an in-person interview, not a phone screen.
Why do interviewers want something else?
- Notes are not quotes. A scorecard needs the candidate's own words. A summary that says "discussed leadership experience" cannot be quoted as evidence.
- The candidate might get them. If the organizer leaves "all invited guests" on, the candidate receives notes that may include interviewer remarks.
- Someone else's account decides. If a client or candidate creates the Meet, your Workspace edition does not matter.
- Phone screens and other platforms. Gemini notes cover Meet calls; most recruiters also screen by phone or on Teams and Zoom.

Which Meet alternative fits which interviewer?
Meet Transcripts, if you already pay for it
The cheapest alternative is the one in your account. Meet's Transcripts feature is on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Education Plus and Workspace Individual, on a computer or Android device. Run it alongside Gemini and you get the quotes the notes leave out. Best for: hosts on eligible editions. Weak spot: invitees in the host's organization can open the transcript, so keep interview invites short.
Tactiq
Tactiq "transcribes from your browser, so nothing joins the meeting," but it reads captions, which on some platforms the host has to enable (Tactiq help). Its integrations page names no ATS. Best for: occasional interviewers who want a free transcript in Chrome. Weak spot: no phone screens and a 10-transcript free cap. See Tactiq for recruiting and Tactiq alternatives.
Bluedot
Bluedot's Chrome extension records Meet "bot-free," offers automatic speaker labels on Meet and Teams, and has auto-record on Meet that is "optional, and off by default." A toggle controls whether participants get a recording notification. It syncs interview feedback to Ashby. Best for: recruiters who live in Meet and use Ashby. Weak spot: the free plan is five meetings for life, and ATS sync is on Business.
Fireflies.ai
Fireflies joins with a bot unless you use its Chrome extension, which its pricing page says records "without Fireflies bot." Prices are from its July 10, 2026 pricing post. Best for: companies already standardized on Fireflies. Weak spot: nothing built around interview structure.
Otter.ai
Otter's desktop app names Google Meet among the calls it records without a bot. Free Basic caps each conversation at 30 minutes, which cuts off most interviews. Best for: hiring managers who want a cheap, reliable transcript. Weak spot: summaries rather than scorecards; see Otter for recruiting.
Metaview
Metaview's Notetaker bot joins Meet like any participant. On Meet, whether a bot gets in without knocking depends on the organizer's access settings. Best for: recruiting teams that want notes posted to an ATS. Weak spot: a visible participant in every interview.
Interview Signal
A Windows and macOS desktop app that captures your microphone as the interviewer and the meeting's sound as the candidate, so it works on Meet whoever created the link, on any Workspace edition or none. It builds a question guide from the job description, suggests follow-ups during the call, and writes a scorecard where each score carries quotes checked against the transcript. Best for: recruiters who need evidence, not summaries, from Meet calls and phone screens. Weak spots: no ATS integration, no browser extension or web app, no video recording, few public reviews, and phone screens must run through the computer.
Notes versus transcript: what to keep for an interview
| You need | Gemini notes | A transcript-based tool |
|---|---|---|
| A reminder of topics covered | Good | Good |
| The candidate's exact words for a scorecard | Not provided | Yes, if you check speaker labels |
| Pay, notice period and dates | Often summarized; verify | Searchable; still verify numbers |
| Proof of what you did not ask | Not recorded | Visible as a gap |
Whatever you keep, it becomes a candidate record. Leave out impressions of tone, appearance or accent; our guide to what not to write in interview notes explains why.
Settings to change if you keep Gemini notes
- Send notes to hosts and co-hosts only for every interview event.
- Turn on host controls so a panelist cannot start notes the candidate was not told about.
- Say a notice line at the start, even though Meet shows the pencil icon. Our consent script has wording; this is not legal advice.
- Check the language. A bilingual interview is outside what Google supports in one meeting.
- Pair notes with a transcript from Meet or a bot-free tool, so evidence and summary come from the same call. AI note takers without a bot explains the capture options.
If you change only one setting, make it the first. Notes that go to hosts and co-hosts only keep interviewer remarks away from the candidate, and the fix takes a minute before your next interview loop starts. The rest of the list matters most for teams that run many Meet interviews a week with different interviewers organizing them.
Questions people ask
Does Gemini's Take notes for me give me a transcript of a Google Meet interview?
Not on its own. Google Meet Help describes Take notes for me as generated notes with a Quick notes and a Full notes tab, covering a summary, decisions, action items and details. A word-for-word transcript comes from Meet's separate Transcripts feature, available on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise and some Education editions as of October 2026.
Can the candidate receive the Gemini notes from their interview?
Yes, if the organizer chooses to send notes to all invited guests. Google Meet Help lists three options: all invited guests including people outside the organization, invited guests in the organization, or hosts and co-hosts only. For interviews, choose hosts and co-hosts only.
What is a good alternative to Gemini notes when I don't host the Meet call?
A tool that captures on your own device works whoever hosts. Bluedot's and Fireflies' Chrome extensions record Meet without a bot, Otter's desktop app names Google Meet, and Interview Signal captures the computer's audio. Tactiq also has no bot but reads Meet's captions, so captions must be available in that meeting.
Does Gemini note-taking work for interviews in other languages?
Only in eight languages as of October 2026: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, and Google says only one language is supported per meeting. For a bilingual interview, test any tool on a real call before relying on it.
