As of October 2026, Interview Signal (version 0.9.10) runs interviews in 17 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin Chinese. Each role has one interview language, chosen when its kit is generated, and the questions, live transcription, follow-ups, scoring, Ask the AI and the client submittal all follow it. You can switch language mid-call under "Mic & language". The app does not translate and has no bilingual mode, and its own buttons and messages are in English.
Which languages can I interview in?
| Group | Languages |
|---|---|
| Western European | English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian |
| Nordic | Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish |
| Central European | Polish |
| Non-Latin scripts | Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese |
The same 17 appear in every language list in the app. Languages outside this list are not offered.
Where do I set the interview language?
In three places. The first one that has a language wins:
- The role. On the kit screen, choose "Interview language" before you press "Generate the kit", then "Save role". The questions are written in that language, and the role remembers it. Roles are saved on the account, so everyone on a team runs the role in the same language.
- Settings. Under "Audio", "Interview language" is the default the kit screen starts on, and the language for any role that has none. The hint reads "The transcript follows this. Submittals are written in it too." This one is kept on your computer.
- English, if neither is set.
To change an existing role's language, choose the new one on its kit screen and press "Regenerate questions"; the language is recorded when the kit is written, not when the role is saved. Questions you ticked Keep come through as they were written. The kit screen is described in the interview kit guide.
How do I set up a role in another language?
An example: a Spanish-language interview for a role whose job description is in English.
- On the home screen, press "New role" and fill in "Role title" and "Job description" (or paste the posting link and press "Fetch"). The description can stay in English.
- Choose Spanish under "Interview language", and pick the "Submittal template", "Interview type" and "Difficulty".
- Press "Generate the kit". The questions come back in Spanish. Read them and edit any wording that does not sound like you; everything in the kit is editable.
- Press "Save role". The app confirms "Role saved. Every recruiter on the team sees it."
- On the call, the transcript, follow-ups and scores are in Spanish, and so is the submittal at the end.
The language is stored with each interview on your computer. It is not among the counts sent to Interview Signal's servers, which are listed on the security page.
What follows the interview language?
| Part | Language |
|---|---|
| Kit questions | Written in it when the kit is generated |
| Live transcription | Transcribed as that language |
| Follow-up suggestions and "+ Add" suggestions | Written in it |
| Scorecard assessments | Written in it; quotes stay in the language they were spoken |
| Ask the AI | Answers in it |
| Client submittal | Written in the language the interview ended in |
| Buttons, menus and messages | English |
The review screen shows the language under "This interview", and "Rewrite" keeps using it. The rules the submittal follows are in the client submittal guide.
Can I switch language during the interview?
- Open "Mic & language" at the top of the live screen.
- Choose a different "Interview language".
- A message confirms it, for example "Now in French: transcription, follow-ups and scoring. What was already said stays as it was."
The questions already on the guide are not translated. The switch belongs to this interview only; the role keeps its own language for the next candidate. More on the live screen's menus is in live controls.
How well do Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin work?
Since version 0.9.6 these produce a full transcript; before that, the filters that remove repeated and invented lines threw some of their sentences away. The quote check works in any script. In Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, which are written without spaces, two characters count as one word, both for the four-word minimum length of a scorecard quote and for the roughly ninety new words "Score as we go" waits for. As with any language, read names, numbers and quotes before you send a submittal.
What it does not do
- No bilingual transcription: one language at a time per interview.
- No translation of the transcript, the scorecard or the submittal.
- No separate submittal language: an interview in German produces a submittal in German.
- The interface itself is English only.
For interviews that mix two languages, see how to transcribe an interview in another language, or in two and how to interview bilingual candidates.
Questions people ask
What languages does Interview Signal support?
As of October 2026, version 0.9.10 interviews in 17 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin Chinese. The questions, live transcription, follow-ups, scoring and the client submittal all follow the language set for the interview. The app's own buttons and messages are in English.
Can Interview Signal transcribe an interview in two languages?
Not at the same time. Each interview has one language, and the app has no bilingual transcription or translation. If the conversation moves to another language, switch it under Mic & language on the live screen; transcription, follow-ups and scoring change from then on, and what was already said stays as it was.
Can I change the interview language during a call in Interview Signal?
Yes. Open Mic & language at the top of the live screen and choose another Interview language. It applies at once to transcription, follow-ups and scoring, and the submittal is written in the language the interview ends in. The questions already on the guide are not translated.
Will the Interview Signal submittal be in the same language as the interview?
Yes. The submittal is written in the language the interview ended in, which the review screen shows as Language under This interview. Quotes stay in the language they were spoken. There is no separate setting to write the submittal in a different language.
