Fireflies.ai is a general AI meeting note-taker that joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams as a bot from your calendar, can also record without a bot through its Windows and Mac desktop app, and syncs notes to applicant tracking systems including Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable and Loxo, from $10 a seat a month billed yearly as of October 2026. Interview Signal is a desktop app built only for interviews: it never joins the call, runs a question guide from the job description while you talk, and writes a scorecard with the candidate's quotes and a client submittal, but it has no ATS integration and costs more per seat. Choose Fireflies.ai if you want one inexpensive tool for every meeting with notes landing in your ATS; choose Interview Signal if the structure of the interview itself, and what you send a client afterward, is the part you want help with.

We make Interview Signal. Every fact about Fireflies.ai below comes from its own site or help center, checked in October 2026 and linked so you can confirm it. For a fuller review of Fireflies in hiring, including the settings to change before a candidate call, see Fireflies.ai for recruiting.

Does Fireflies.ai join the call as a bot?

For calendar meetings, yes. Fireflies' help center says the bot appears as "Fireflies.ai Notetaker", joins automatically when invited through a linked Google or Outlook calendar or when auto-join is on, and must be admitted by a host when the meeting has a waiting room or lobby. That matters most when a client or hiring manager hosts the interview, because the person who has to let the bot in is not you.

Fireflies is fair to credit here: it also offers two bot-free routes. Its desktop app records "using your computer's system audio" on Windows and Mac, names Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Aircall, phone calls and in-person conversations, turns its consent notices on by default, and does not save separate audio or video files in that mode. Its Chrome extension captures Google Meet in Chrome without a bot; for Zoom or Teams the guide sends you back to the bot. The bot has one advantage nothing bot-free can match: it can sit in a panel you are not attending.

Interview Signal has one mode: it runs on the interviewer's computer, labels the microphone as the interviewer and the meeting's sound as the candidate, and never adds a participant. It cannot record a meeting you are not in.

Which one handles phone screens better?

On paper, Fireflies covers more phone setups. Its desktop app guide describes capturing iPhone calls on a Mac through Calls from iPhone and Android or iPhone calls on Windows through Phone Link, and its integrations page lists Aircall, RingCentral, Zoom Phone and OpenPhone as dialers. If your desk already calls through one of those, that is a real point for Fireflies.

Interview Signal captures a phone screen only when the call runs through the computer's audio, such as a softphone; with no mobile app or dialer integration, a call on a handset is out of reach. See our guide to recording a phone screen.

What do you get during the interview, and after it?

This is where the two products differ most. Fireflies' Live Assist on the desktop app shows a live transcript with speaker labels, AI notes, a Follow Up button that "instantly suggests follow-up questions or next steps", and AskFred for questions mid-call; the same guide lists an "Interview Assistant" AI Skill. Its recruiting page adds summaries for each candidate conversation, scorecards, and recruiting AI Skills including a Candidate Sentiment Analyzer and a Culture Fit Extractor; before scoring sentiment or fit, read our page on NYC Local Law 144. We did not find a client submittal, or a question guide built from your job description, described on Fireflies' pages.

Interview Signal is narrower and deeper. During the call it builds a question guide from the job description, keeps must-ask questions pinned until you ask them, suggests follow-ups with a reason (probe, clarify or evidence), fills the scorecard as the interview goes, and lets you press Evaluate to score on demand, with an optional second model (Dual AI). A private answer check flags answers that read as AI-written or read aloud and offers a question to try; it never changes a score and never appears in the submittal. After the call, every score carries the candidate's own quotes, checked against the transcript, and any quote not found there is removed. The client submittal follows your agency's template.

Where does the interview data go?

Fireflies is a cloud product. Its security page says it is certified for GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance, says "We don't train on it by default", and notes that Enterprise plans add private storage at your preferred location and custom data retention. Storage on lower plans is metered: the Free plan includes 400 minutes per seat and the Pro plan up to 8,000.

Interview Signal keeps transcripts, quotes, candidate names, notes and submittals on the recruiter's computer. Audio goes to a speech-to-text provider in short chunks during the call and is not retained, and our server keeps only counts and durations (security details). On a panel, interviewers share which questions were asked and the scores, never transcripts.

Which one connects to your ATS?

Fireflies wins this row plainly. Its integrations page lists Ashby, BambooHR, Gem ATS, Greenhouse, Lever, Loxo and Workable, and its recruiting page says it sends "meeting notes and transcripts to Greenhouse, Lever and others." Loxo is an agency system, so some staffing desks are covered too. Bullhorn and JobAdder are not on the list.

Interview Signal has no ATS integration. It exports by copy, Markdown, Word, a CSV row, email or Slack, and shapes notes for Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever or JobAdder that you paste in yourself. If your ATS is on Fireflies' list, weigh this first.

How much does each one cost?

Fireflies' pricing page showed no figures when we checked, so these come from its pricing plans article, as of October 2026. Interview Signal prices are from our pricing page. The yearly totals are our arithmetic.

SituationFireflies.aiInterview Signal
One recruiter, billed yearlyPro: $10 × 12 = $120; Business: $19 × 12 = $228Solo: $468 a year
One recruiter, billed monthlyPro $18; Business $29Solo $49
Team of three, billed yearlyBusiness: 3 × $19 × 12 = $684Team: 3 × $49 × 12 = $1,764
A few interviews, no subscriptionFree: 400 minutes of storage per seat; 3 transcriptions by default, unlimited with Auto Join on20 free minutes, then 5 hours for $29, never expiring

Fireflies is cheaper at every seat count here, and its free plan is more generous for ongoing use. What Interview Signal's higher price buys is the in-call question guide, the quote-checked scorecard, the submittal and local storage; if you do not need those, Fireflies is the better value.

Should you choose Fireflies.ai or Interview Signal?

Choose Fireflies.ai if:

  • Your company already uses it for sales or internal meetings and interviews would ride along at no extra cost.
  • You are on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable or Loxo and want notes synced without copying.
  • You need a bot to record panels you cannot attend, or a mobile app.
  • Price per seat is the deciding factor.

Choose Interview Signal if:

  • You want the interview structured while it happens: must-ask questions, follow-ups and a scorecard filling in.
  • Your main output is a client submittal, and you want every quote in it checked against the transcript.
  • You would rather transcripts stayed on your own computer than in a vendor's cloud.
  • You can live without ATS write-back, video recording and a mobile app; Interview Signal is also a newer product with few public reviews.

Best for, in one line: Fireflies.ai is best for teams that want one affordable note-taker across all meetings with ATS sync; Interview Signal is best for recruiters whose work product is a scored, client-ready write-up of each interview.

What should you test before you decide?

1. Run one video interview hosted by someone outside your company.
Note whether the Fireflies bot waits in a lobby; then repeat
with its desktop app and with Interview Signal.
2. Run one real phone screen through each tool. Count the steps.
3. Compare both scorecards for the same interview. Which quotes
can you find word for word in the transcript?
4. If your ATS is on Fireflies' list, push one test candidate.
5. Price your real seat count on yearly billing for both.

Interview Signal's free tier is 20 minutes, enough for one real screen, and the walkthrough shows the full flow first. Whichever tool you pick, tell candidates a note-taker is running; our consent script has wording you can read aloud. For other bot-free options, see AI note-takers without a bot.

Questions people ask

Is Interview Signal a Fireflies.ai alternative for recruiters?

It can be, if what you want is an interview-specific tool rather than a general meeting note-taker. Fireflies.ai records almost any meeting and syncs notes to ATS platforms such as Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Loxo, while Interview Signal runs a question guide built from the job description during the call and writes an evidence-checked scorecard and a client submittal afterward, with no ATS integration.

Does Fireflies.ai join interviews as a bot?

Usually, yes. As of October 2026 Fireflies' help center says the Fireflies.ai Notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams from your calendar and must be admitted from a waiting room. Its desktop app for Windows and Mac can also record from your computer's system audio with no bot, and its Chrome extension does the same for Google Meet only.

Which is cheaper, Fireflies.ai or Interview Signal?

Fireflies.ai is cheaper per seat. As of October 2026 its Pro plan is $10 a month billed yearly and Business is $19, against Interview Signal's Solo plan at $49 a month or $468 a year. Interview Signal also sells hour packs from $9 that never expire, which can cost less for someone who only runs a few interviews.

Can Fireflies.ai or Interview Signal record a phone screen?

Both can, in different ways. Fireflies' desktop app captures phone calls routed through the computer, including iPhone calls on a Mac and phones paired through Windows Phone Link, and it connects to dialers such as Aircall, RingCentral, Zoom Phone and OpenPhone. Interview Signal captures a phone screen only when the call runs through the computer's audio.
