As of October 2026, the call recording apps recruiters actually use are business phone systems (RingCentral, Zoom Phone, Dialpad, Aircall, Quo and Google Voice) and the recorders now built into iPhone and Google's Phone app on Android. For agencies, the deciding feature is usually the ATS link: Dialpad, Aircall and RingCentral each describe a Bullhorn integration. All of them can announce the recording, but none replaces your own consent step, and some recruiters now skip the audio file entirely and keep only a transcript and notes.

We make Interview Signal, one of the tools below; everything about the other products comes from their own sites, linked and dated. For the step-by-step version of recording a single screen, see how to record a phone screen; for AI that helps with the screen itself, see AI tools for phone screens.

What should a recruiter look for in a call recording app?

  • Automatic or on-demand recording. Automatic catches every call; on-demand lets you record only screens and skip client calls.
  • The recording notice. Whether the app plays an announcement, whether you can change it, and whether it plays on outbound calls.
  • Transcripts and AI summaries. A recording nobody listens to is only a liability; a searchable transcript or summary is useful.
  • ATS logging. Whether the call, notes or transcript link appear on the candidate record without copy and paste.
  • Mobile. Recruiters take calls away from the desk; the app should work on the phone in their pocket.
  • Retention. How long recordings are kept, and whether you can delete one candidate's calls on request.

Which call recording apps integrate with Bullhorn?

Dialpad

Call recording is available on all Dialpad plans, though automatic recording needs Pro or Enterprise. Its Bullhorn integration logs call status, caller name, notes and a link to the call transcript, and its Greenhouse integration logs calls and texts to the candidate record but not AI recaps or transcripts (Dialpad Bullhorn). Dialpad's AI Recaps summarize calls automatically. Best for: recruiters who want a transcript link on the Bullhorn record. Watch: with office-wide automatic recording, Dialpad says callers hear no greeting, so recruiters must say it themselves.

Aircall

Aircall's Essentials plan includes call recordings and AI transcripts at $30 per license per month billed annually, with a three-license minimum; call summaries need the AI Assist add-on on Essentials and are included on Professional (Aircall pricing). Its Bullhorn integration captures call details, AI insights and texts as notes, and JobAdder is listed under HR and recruiting integrations. Best for: agency teams of three or more that want notes in Bullhorn or JobAdder.

RingCentral

RingCentral plays a notification when recording starts and stops, which admins can customize. Core allows on-demand recording only; Advanced and Ultra add automatic recording; recordings are kept for 90 days (RingCentral retention). Its AI Assistant transcribes calls from Core upward, and a RingCentral Labs app for Bullhorn adds click-to-call and call history sync. Best for: larger agencies that need a full phone system with admin controls.

Which apps suit teams outside Bullhorn?

Zoom Phone includes call recording and post-call summaries on every plan, with recording transcripts on Pro Plus and Business Plus; automatic recording can be set to play a prompt to participants (Zoom support). Best for teams already on Zoom Workplace. Quo records manually on Starter and automatically on Business, where AI call summaries and transcripts are included, and lets admins choose a voice announcement, a beep or no notification (Quo). Best for small teams that want simple pricing. Google Voice announces every recording to all participants; automatic recording requires Voice Premier, and its "Take notes for me" feature on Standard and Premier announces that the call is "being recorded and captured by AI" (Google). Best for Google Workspace teams.

Can recruiters record calls on their own phone?

Yes, for occasional use. Starting in iOS 18, iPhone records calls with one other person, both people hear an audio notice, and the recording lands in the Notes app; Apple says it is not available in the EU and some other countries (Apple). Google's Phone app records on Pixel 6 and later with Android 14, and on other devices with Android 9 and up, in supported regions; both parties hear a disclosure and recordings stay on the device (Google). Watch: candidate recordings on a personal phone are hard to find, share or delete on request, and nothing reaches your ATS.

Do you need the audio at all?

Often not. Most recruiters never play a screen back; they need accurate notes and a submittal. Keeping audio means storing more personal data for longer, and answering for it if a candidate asks. Our guide on how long to keep interview notes covers retention.

That is the gap Interview Signal fills. It is not a call recorder: audio goes to a speech-to-text provider in short chunks during the call and is not retained, and the transcript, scorecard and submittal stay on your computer. It includes a read-aloud consent line, notice text by jurisdiction and a one-click pause. Weak spots: no audio file to replay, no ATS integration, desktop only, and phone screens must run through the computer, for example on a softphone.

An app's announcement is a notice, not a legal analysis. Some states require everyone on the call to agree, and when you and the candidate are in different states the stricter rule is the safe default. Read two-party consent states and recording calls across state lines, and say a consent line at the start of every recorded screen. This is not legal advice.

How to choose

  1. List your ATS and check the app's integration page for it by name.
  2. Decide whether you need automatic recording or only on-demand.
  3. Test the announcement on a real outbound call to your own mobile.
  4. Check retention and deletion, then decide whether you need audio or only notes.
  5. Price your real seat count, including minimums and annual terms.

Questions people ask

What is the best call recording app for recruiters?

For agencies on Bullhorn, Dialpad, Aircall and RingCentral are the strongest choices as of October 2026, because each names a Bullhorn integration that logs calls on the candidate record. Zoom Phone and Google Voice suit teams already on Zoom or Google Workspace, Quo suits small teams that want simple pricing, and the built-in recorders on iPhone and Android suit occasional use.

Can I record a phone screen on my iPhone?

Yes. Starting in iOS 18, iPhone can record a call with one other person; both people hear an audio notice that the call is being recorded, and the recording is saved to a Call Recordings folder in the Notes app. Apple says the feature is not available in the EU and some other countries.

Do call recording apps tell the candidate they are being recorded?

Most can. RingCentral plays a notification when recording starts and stops, Google Voice and the iPhone and Android built-in recorders announce the recording to everyone, and Quo and Aircall let you configure an announcement. Dialpad notes that with office-wide automatic recording callers hear no greeting, so recruiters must tell them. An automatic notice does not replace your own consent step.

Which call recording apps integrate with Bullhorn?

As of October 2026, Dialpad, Aircall and RingCentral each describe a Bullhorn integration on their own sites that logs call details or notes in Bullhorn. We did not find Bullhorn among the integrations listed by Zoom Phone, Quo or Google Voice.
