RingCentral works for recruiting when you want a full business phone system with admin controls, call recording announcements and a Bullhorn connector maintained by RingCentral itself. As of October 2026, RingEX Core costs $20 per user per month paid annually and records calls on demand; Advanced, at $25, adds automatic recording. RingCentral's AI assistant, now marketed as AI Virtual Assistant (AVA), transcribes calls and writes AI call notes, and App Connect can log calls to Bullhorn. It is not an interview tool: it does not score candidates or write submittals.

Below: how RingCentral records and announces a candidate call, what its AI call notes contain, how App Connect gets a call into Bullhorn and which other recruiting systems list RingCentral apps, prices in recruiting terms, and who should pick it. Every vendor fact links to RingCentral's own site, help pages or app gallery, checked in October 2026.

How does RingCentral record a candidate call?

RingEX is a cloud phone system, so calls run through RingCentral and no bot is involved. Its call recording page describes two modes, and the plans page says which plan has which:

  • On-demand recording (Core and up): the user presses a button to start and stop. Callers hear a notification when recording starts and when it stops, and an admin can replace the default with a custom announcement at start or stop.
  • Automatic recording (Advanced and up): inbound and outbound calls are recorded without anyone pressing a button, with default or custom announcements set by an admin.
  • Storage: the call recording page says an account can keep up to 100,000 recordings, stored for up to 90 days, which can be downloaded individually or in bulk, and that you also get transcripts of your phone calls.

For recruiters, the 90-day window cuts both ways. It is long enough for most hiring processes from screen to offer, and short enough that recordings do not pile up for years. If your retention policy says shorter, delete sooner; if a client process runs longer, download what you must keep and store it under your own rule. Our guide to keeping interview notes covers retention schedules.

What do RingCentral's AI call notes give a recruiter?

RingCentral's old AI Assistant page now redirects to its AI Virtual Assistant (AVA) page, which describes real-time transcription for calls and meetings, detailed AI call and meeting summaries, and message drafting. Two RingCentral sources add the detail a recruiter needs:

  • The RingCentral app. The June 2026 mobile release notes say AI call notes can be copied, shared or downloaded as a TXT file, with participant names, caller number, date, time and duration above the note, and that an auto-start setting for call notes takes effect from the next call.
  • App Connect. RingCentral Labs' App Connect AI Assistant page says the assistant, marked beta there and switched on as "Smart Note (Beta)", shows a live transcript during the call and afterwards generates a transcript, a call summary, a recap of key takeaways, tasks and action items, and decisions made. "Auto-start AI Assistant" runs it on every call.

App Connect's cost page says the AI Assistant is available to every RingCentral customer at no extra license cost, and contrasts it with RingCentral ACE (AI Conversation Expert), a separately licensed product that transcribes every call and adds sentiment, an AI score and highlights. The plans page lists conversation intelligence as an add-on starting at $60. For candidate calls, transcripts and summaries are what you need. An AI score or sentiment reading of a candidate is AI evaluation of an applicant, which brings in rules such as New York City's Local Law 144; leave those off for screens unless counsel has signed off.

We did not find a RingCentral help page, open to the public, that says what the other person hears when AI call notes start. Before using them on candidates, call your own mobile with notes switched on and listen. Then say your own notice line on every screen regardless.

How do RingCentral calls get into Bullhorn and other recruiting systems?

RingCentral's route into Bullhorn is Bullhorn for RingCentral, published by RingCentral Labs in the RingCentral App Gallery and delivered through App Connect, a Chrome extension. From the listing and the App Connect Bullhorn guide, as of October 2026:

  • In Bullhorn: a click-to-call button on phone numbers, and screen-pops with caller details for incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Logging: call history, call dispositions, SMS and voicemail sync to Bullhorn contacts, job orders and placements, automatically or manually, with a default note action you choose.
  • Setup: install App Connect from the Chrome Web Store, open it while logged in to Bullhorn and connect with your Bullhorn credentials; the guide also lists the permissions the API user needs.
  • AI notes in the record: App Connect says logging AI transcripts, summaries and other insights to a CRM is free during the App Connect 2.0 introductory period, may cost extra in a future release, and that RingCentral has not decided whether an ACE license will be needed then.
  • Browser: the listing says the integration works with Google Chrome on Windows or Mac. Recruiters on another browser should test first.

The App Gallery also lists apps built by recruiting vendors themselves, so support and pricing come from those vendors: Crelate for RingCentral (manage, schedule and record phone communications from Crelate's sidebar), Ceipal ATS for RingCentral (calls, SMS, call campaigns and voicemail drops inside Ceipal) and Recruiterflow for RingCentral. App Connect's own connector list names Bullhorn as its only staffing system. We did not find Greenhouse, Lever or JobAdder apps for RingCentral. Our pages on Bullhorn and Crelate note-takers cover the other routes into those systems.

What should recruiters say before RingCentral records?

RingCentral's call recording page presents its announcements as a way to get the right consent, but an announcement only tells the candidate; it does not ask them. In all-party consent states everyone on the call must agree, and when you and the candidate are in different states the stricter rule is the safe default. Read two-party consent states and recording calls across state lines, then use a line like this once the candidate is on:

Before we start: this call is recorded and transcribed by our phone
system so I can listen instead of typing. It is used only for your
application. Is that okay with you?
[If no: "No problem, I'll stop the recording and take notes by hand."]

On Core, stopping is a button press. On Advanced with automatic recording, check with your admin that recruiters can pause or stop a recording, and test it. More wording is in our interview recording consent script. This is not legal advice.

How much does RingCentral cost for a recruiting team?

Prices from RingCentral's plans and pricing page, as of October 2026, per user per month. The last column is example arithmetic, not a quote.

PlanPaid annuallyPaid monthlyRecordingExample: five recruiters for a year, annual billing
RingEX Core$20$30On-demand5 × $20 × 12 = $1,200
RingEX Advanced$25$35Automatic and on-demand5 × $25 × 12 = $1,500

Add-ons listed on the same page include AI Receptionist from $39 and conversation intelligence from $60. For most recruiting desks the choice is Core, if recruiters are happy to press record on screens, or Advanced, if you want every candidate call recorded by default with an announcement.

What fits recruiting, and what does not?

Where RingCentral fits:

  • Agencies on Bullhorn that want a connector maintained by the phone vendor, with calls, texts and voicemails logged to candidates, job orders and placements.
  • Larger teams that need admin control over announcements, recording and multiple sites.
  • Crelate, Ceipal and Recruiterflow users, whose own vendors publish RingCentral apps.

Where it stops:

  • Interview structure. Nothing we found builds questions from a job description, tracks must-ask questions or ties notes to competencies.
  • Submittals. An AI call note is not a client write-up; see our submittal template.
  • Video interviews. RingCentral's AI covers its own calls and video meetings; a candidate interview on Zoom or Teams needs a separate tool.
  • Beta and pricing uncertainty. App Connect's AI Assistant is labelled beta, and AI logging to the CRM may cost extra later.

Who should pick RingCentral?

Best for: agencies and in-house teams that want an established business phone system with recording announcements, admin controls and a Bullhorn connector from the vendor itself. Teams that want AI recaps on the cheapest plan should compare Dialpad; JobAdder agencies should look at Aircall; Zoom Workplace customers should see Zoom Phone. All of them are compared in call recording apps for recruiters.

Look elsewhere if what you need after a screen is a scorecard and a submittal. Disclosure: we make Interview Signal, one alternative for that. It is a desktop app that transcribes a phone screen taken through your computer's audio, such as a softphone call, without a bot, and turns it into a scorecard with the candidate's own quotes and a submittal in your template; it keeps no audio file and has no ATS integration, so notes are pasted.

Questions people ask

How much does RingCentral cost for a recruiter?

As of October 2026, RingCentral's plans page lists RingEX Core at $20 per user per month paid annually or $30 paid monthly, and Advanced at $25 paid annually or $35 paid monthly. Core records calls on demand; Advanced adds automatic recording. The AI Customer Engagement bundles are priced on request.

Does RingCentral take AI notes on phone calls?

Yes. RingCentral's AI Virtual Assistant page describes real-time call transcription and AI call and meeting summaries, and its June 2026 mobile release notes describe AI call notes with an auto-start setting. RingCentral Labs' App Connect documentation says the AI Assistant produces a transcript, summary, key takeaways, action items and decisions after a call, at no extra license cost.

Can RingCentral log candidate calls in Bullhorn?

Yes. RingCentral Labs' Bullhorn for RingCentral app, part of App Connect, adds click-to-call and screen-pops in Bullhorn and logs call history, SMS and voicemail to Bullhorn contacts, job orders and placements. App Connect says logging AI transcripts and summaries to a CRM is free during its 2.0 introductory period and may cost extra later.

Does RingCentral tell the candidate a call is being recorded?

It can. RingCentral's call recording page says callers hear a notification when on-demand recording starts and stops, and admins can use default or custom announcements for automatic recording. An announcement is a notice, not consent, so say your own line in all-party consent states.
