Sembly AI suits recruiting agencies that want client-ready documents from interviews: its HR and Recruitment page describes branded candidate profiles, candidate comparison tables and custom deliverables formatted in each client's branding. As of October 2026 it captures interviews with a visible Sembly Agent that joins Zoom, Teams, Meet and Webex calls, does not record phone calls, names no applicant tracking system, and meters AI work with monthly credits on plans from $10 a month billed yearly.

This page covers what Sembly's own pages document for recruiting: the agency features, plans in interview terms, how the agent behaves on a candidate call, where it stops, and what to set up first.

What does Sembly do well for recruiting?

  • Client-facing output. Sembly's HR and Recruitment page says "branded candidate profiles reach clients within hours of the interview, ready for recruiter sign-off." Few note takers aim at the agency submittal at all.
  • Per-client formats. You paste a client's website URL and Sembly derives "their logo, colors, fonts, and tone"; each client account holds its own templates and formatting.
  • Comparisons. Side-by-side evaluations with "qualifications, strengths, and gaps" for the hiring manager.
  • Unlimited meeting hours. Every paid plan includes unlimited capture on Meet, Teams, Zoom and Webex (pricing).
  • Transparency by design. The agent is visible in every call, which some candidates and clients prefer to an invisible recorder.
  • Security paperwork. The pricing page says Sembly holds SOC 2 Type II certification, operates in line with GDPR, offers HIPAA compliance on MAX and Enterprise, and lets every plan opt out of model training, which shortens a client's vendor review.

Sembly's plans, in recruiting terms

Published on Sembly's pricing page as of October 2026; plan names changed on March 1, 2026, per its help center.

PlanPrice per userUsersAI credits a monthWhat it adds for recruiting
Free Trial$01750One meeting hour in total, enough to see one interview
Basic$10/mo yearly, $17 monthly12,500Unlimited capture, notes, tasks, basic AI chat; 25 clients
Pro$20/mo yearly, $29 monthlyUp to 403,000Custom note templates, consent tracking, custom vocabulary, retention settings, automations; 100 clients
MAX$30/mo yearly, $39 monthly3 to 5003,500HD video, unlimited history, SSO, audit log, HIPAA available; 500 clients
EnterpriseCustom10+3,500Custom contracts and limits

Two details matter for an agency. First, the "clients" limit is a count of client accounts with their own branding, so a desk with 30 active clients outgrows Basic. Second, credits pay for AI work such as deliverables and chat; Sembly says unused credits expire at month end on Basic and Pro, and extra credits can be bought on paid plans. Yearly, one Pro seat is $20 × 12 = $240.

How does Sembly capture an interview?

  • An agent joins by URL. "Sembly joins Google Meet, Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams calls by URL" and "joins meetings as a meeting guest" (help center). It cannot join meetings created with Google Education accounts.
  • It is always visible. Sembly "appears as a visible participant with a name like 'Sembly Agent,'" and the help center says Sembly does not record meetings without others knowing (article).
  • It posts in the chat. If chat is on for guests, the agent sends greetings and warnings by default; an admin can change or turn off the Hello prompt, and Sembly warns that you must then make sure everyone knows about the recording (in-meeting messages).
  • No desktop recorder. "For desktop users, Sembly is only available as a web app"; mobile apps for iOS and Android record in-person conversations (apps).
  • No phone calls. "Sembly does not record phone calls"; you can record the call elsewhere and upload the file (phone calls).

What does the recruiting page claim, and how do you test it?

Sembly's recruiting FAQ draws its own line: it says Metaview and BrightHire "focus on interview intelligence: transcription, scorecards, and internal hiring decisions," while Sembly "is built for agencies that produce client-facing candidate materials." The deliverables it lists are interview summaries, candidate comparison tables, shortlist summaries, market maps, salary benchmarking reports, onboarding guides and any custom document type the agency configures.

The same page promises an "agency-wide candidate knowledge base" that "grows with every interview," and says candidate calls and submission records "stay with the account when recruiters rotate." That is useful for continuity and is also a store of personal data that grows forever unless you set retention, which the checklist below covers.

A fair test takes a week:

  1. Pick one client and set up its branding.
  2. Run three real video interviews for one of that client's roles, with candidates told about the agent.
  3. Generate a candidate profile for each and time how long your edit takes before you would send it.
  4. Generate one comparison table and check every strength and gap against the transcripts.
  5. Count the credits used, so you can estimate a month at your real volume.

Where does Sembly stop for recruiting?

Gaps we could not find covered on Sembly's pages as of October 2026:

  • Phone screens. For agencies, most first screens are phone calls, and uploading a recording afterwards adds a step and a consent question. Our guide to recording a phone screen covers the options.
  • No ATS named. The help center documents automations for Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, Confluence, ClickUp, SharePoint, OneDrive and Zapier, but no Bullhorn, JobAdder, Greenhouse or Lever.
  • A bot in every call. On a client-hosted interview, the client's lobby settings decide whether the agent gets in.
  • Sentiment analysis. Pro and above list it. In hiring, a score of a candidate's sentiment invites questions you may not want; see NYC Local Law 144 and AI note takers.
  • Two languages per workspace. The help center says each workspace selects two languages at a time for transcription.

Before your first candidate call

  1. Keep the Hello prompt on and say your own notice line too. Our consent script has wording. This is general information, not legal advice.
  2. Rename the agent. By default it joins as your workspace name plus "Sembly Agent"; Basic and above can rename it for Zoom and Teams, Pro and above for Meet (agent customization). A name like "Acme Recruiting notes" is easier to explain to a candidate.
  3. Set data retention. By default meetings are not deleted automatically; a workspace admin can delete all meeting data, or only audio and video, after a set number of days (retention options).
  4. Decide who uses sentiment output, and keep it out of candidate records if the answer is nobody.
  5. Set up each client's branding once, and test one deliverable before a live submittal.

Review checklist for an AI-generated candidate profile

A branded document looks finished, which is exactly why it needs a check before a client sees it:

  • Every claim traces to the transcript. Find the line behind each strength. If you cannot, delete it.
  • Numbers are the candidate's. Salary, notice period and years of experience, checked word for word.
  • No protected or personal details. Age, family plans, health, accent or appearance do not belong in a submittal.
  • Gaps are stated, not hidden. A profile that lists only strengths will be found out in the client interview.
  • The candidate agreed to be submitted to this client, for this role.

The screen-to-submittal workflow shows where this check sits in a recruiter's day.

Who should choose Sembly?

  • Suits: agencies that interview mostly on video, care about polished client documents, and are comfortable with a visible agent.
  • Suits: firms that also run consulting or client delivery and want one tool for both.
  • Look elsewhere if: most screens are by phone, your clients block outside bots, or notes must land in Bullhorn or JobAdder.

We make Interview Signal, one alternative for agencies in that last group; everything about Sembly here comes from Sembly's own site, linked and dated. It runs on the recruiter's computer with no bot, covers phone screens taken through the computer, and writes the submittal in the agency's template, but it has no ATS integration and no branded-design features. The wider field is compared in AI note takers for staffing agencies.

Questions people ask

Does Sembly join interviews as a bot?

Yes. Sembly's help center says it joins Google Meet, Zoom, Webex and Microsoft Teams calls by URL as a meeting guest and appears as a visible participant with a name like Sembly Agent. On desktop it is a web app only, with no desktop recorder, as of October 2026.

Can Sembly record a phone screen?

Not directly. Sembly's help center says it does not record phone calls; you would record the call with a phone app or recorder and upload the audio file to Sembly afterwards. Check your state's consent rules before recording a call.

What does Sembly offer recruiting agencies specifically?

Sembly's HR and Recruitment page describes branded candidate profiles sent to clients after an interview, side-by-side candidate comparisons, and custom deliverables such as market maps, salary reports and shortlist summaries, formatted in each client's branding. These are produced with Sembly's AI credits.

How much does Sembly cost for a recruiter?

As of October 2026, Basic is $10 a month billed yearly or $17 monthly for one user, Pro is $20 per user billed yearly or $29 monthly, and MAX is $30 or $39 with a three-user minimum. Every paid plan includes unlimited meeting capture; AI work such as deliverables uses monthly credits.
