Supernormal can take notes on a job interview without a bot, but it is no longer a general meeting recorder. As of October 2026 it captures calls only through its Mac and Windows desktop app, which uses your computer's audio, then produces a transcript, summary and action items that its AI agents can turn into emails, documents and slides. Since March and April 2026 it no longer records audio or video, no longer offers its bot, Chrome extension or Workable integration, and supports seven languages. Plans are credit-based, from free (15 credits a month) to $20 a month for 50 credits. It suits recruiters who want quiet notes and drafted follow-ups; it has no scorecard and no ATS link.

Below: what Supernormal's own pages say about capture, phone screens, plans, consent and data, where it stops for interviewing, and a setup that works. Every claim links to the Supernormal page we checked in October 2026.

What does Supernormal do in an interview?

  • Captures without a bot. Its notetaker page says the app "takes meeting notes directly from your computer without a bot joining the call."
  • Writes notes as soon as the call ends. Each capture produces "a full meeting note with a transcript, summary, and action items," per its capture guide.
  • Drafts what comes next. The home page says its agents draft emails, decks, briefs and proposals "in 3-4 minutes." For a recruiter, that might be a candidate follow-up or a hiring manager summary.
  • Groups calls into projects. You can group meetings into projects and prompt across all of them, which suits keeping one role's screens together.

Supernormal's own positioning is "AI agents built for agencies," with templates for pitch decks, creative briefs and proposals, so it reads as a tool for client-services agencies rather than for recruiting.

How does Supernormal capture an interview?

From Supernormal's help center, as of October 2026:

Capture routeHow it startsWhat it means for an interview
Scheduled meetingA notification before a calendar meeting startsGood for booked screens if your calendar is connected
Automatic detectionDetects a meeting in progress and starts after a 15-second countdownCan start before you have given notice; see the consent section
New captureStarted by hand from the menu bar or trayBest for interviews: you choose the moment
Mobile webTake meeting notes at app.supernormal.com on a phoneIn-person only, one speaker, no phone or video calls

Sources: capture guide, capture preferences, mobile capture.

The desktop app automatically detects Google Meet, Zoom, Teams and Slack Huddles, and Supernormal says it also works with platforms such as Discord and WhatsApp. It captures meetings from 2 minutes to 4 hours long, per its help center. The Mac app needs an Apple Silicon processor and macOS 14.4.1 or later, and the Windows app needs Windows 11 or later.

Speaker labels, which matter more than usual

An interview transcript is only useful if you can tell the candidate's words from yours. Supernormal's speaker article says Mac users see "You, Speaker 1, Speaker 2," while Windows users currently see "You and Others." On a one-to-one screen that is enough. On a panel interview on Windows, every other interviewer and the candidate share the "Others" label, so check quotes before you attribute them.

Can Supernormal capture phone screens?

Yes, when the call runs through your computer. Supernormal's article Can I only capture online meetings? lists "Phone calls (when using your computer's audio, not yet supported on mobile)" and recommends a VoIP dialer. Calls on a mobile handset are out of reach: the mobile capture article says phone and virtual conversations are not supported there yet. Our guide to recording a phone screen covers desktop dialer setups.

Supernormal's plans, in interview terms

From Supernormal's pricing page and its 2.0 plans article, as of October 2026. The last column is ours.

PlanPriceCreditsWhat that means for interviews
Free$015 a month, up to 5 a dayA trial; how many interviews it covers is not published
Team$20/mo, or $18/mo billed annually50 a month, adjustable up to 500; shared across unlimited seatsThe plan most recruiters would use; credits roll over
Business$40/mo50 a monthAdds SSO, audit logs and data retention controls

The credits article says credits are used for "capturing meetings, generating notes, and prompting," and that Supernormal does not give exact breakdowns of what a credit gets you "because no two tasks are the same." Before you commit, run a week of real screens and read the usage page that owners and admins can see.

What changed in 2026 that matters for interviews?

Supernormal's help article How and why has Supernormal changed this past year? (April 2026) lists the changes. Four matter for interviewers:

  • No recordings. Video and audio recording retired on March 2, 2026, so you cannot replay a disputed answer.
  • No ATS link. The native Workable integration retired on March 2, alongside HubSpot, Salesforce, Zapier and others. The integrations page now lists Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, Linear, Google Drive and an MCP server.
  • No bot. Norma, the bot, and the Chrome extension retired on April 2, 2026.
  • Seven languages. English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Swedish and Portuguese, per the language article. On macOS, if your language is set to English, it only ever transcribes English.

If you used the Workable integration, our Workable note-taker guide covers what still connects.

Candidate notice: what you have to do yourself

Supernormal's home page FAQ says the app runs "quietly in the background" and "Your clients never see a recording notice or bot participant." Its April 2026 help article adds that some states and countries require participants to be notified and that "notifying participants is the responsibility of each user." Combined with automatic detection and a 15-second countdown, that means an interview can be captured before you have said anything. For interviews:

  • Consider switching off automatic capture in Preferences and using New capture after the candidate has agreed.
  • Say a notice line out loud at the start of every call. Our consent script has wording, and two-party consent states lists where everyone must agree.
  • Have a plan for a "no," such as typing your own notes for that call.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Where does the interview data go?

Supernormal's security page says audio is encrypted with TLS 1.2+ as it leaves your device, transcribed and summarized in SOC 2 infrastructure, and stored with AES-256 encryption, private to you until you share it. It lists GDPR, HIPAA with a BAA available, and SOC 2. It says that "on paid plans, your data is excluded from training AI models," and that you can restrict, delete or export your data at any time. The page does not make the training statement for the free plan, so use a paid plan for candidate calls.

A setup that makes Supernormal work for interviews

  1. Check the computer first. Windows 11, or an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 14.4.1 or later. On Windows, expect "You and Others" speaker labels.
  2. Turn off automatic capture and start each interview with New capture after your notice.
  3. Set your language to the one the interview is held in, and test a bilingual call before relying on it.
  4. Put each role in a project so you can prompt across all screens for that role, for example "who mentioned a notice period over four weeks?"
  5. Read the summary against the transcript before it reaches a hiring manager or your ATS. Check numbers, and "I" versus "we" in the candidate's examples.
  6. Leave out impressions of tone, accent or confidence; see what not to write in interview notes.

Where does Supernormal stop for recruiting?

  • No scorecard. Notes, summaries and action items, but no competency scorecard or question guide described.
  • No ATS integration since the Workable link retired.
  • No recording to replay or share.
  • Windows 10 and Intel Macs are not supported by the desktop app.
  • Unpublished cost per interview, because credits are not broken down.

Who should use Supernormal for interviews?

  • Suits: recruiters who also write proposals, job briefs and client emails from their calls, and want one tool for all of it.
  • Suits: small teams that want one shared credit pool instead of per-seat pricing.
  • Look elsewhere if: you need an ATS link, a recording, a scorecard, or a language outside its seven.

We make Interview Signal, one alternative for scored interviews; everything about Supernormal here comes from Supernormal's own site, linked and dated. It is a Windows and macOS desktop app with no bot that runs a question guide and scorecard during the call and backs each score with quotes checked against the transcript, but it has no ATS integration either; we compare the two head to head. For a wider list, read Supernormal alternatives for recruiters.

Best for: Supernormal suits recruiters who want bot-free interview notes that feed straight into follow-up emails and documents, and who do not need recordings, scores or an ATS link.

Questions people ask

Can Supernormal take notes in a job interview without a bot?

Yes. As of October 2026, Supernormal captures meetings only through its Mac and Windows desktop app, which uses your computer's audio, and its bot and Chrome extension were retired on April 2, 2026. It detects Google Meet, Zoom, Teams and Slack Huddles automatically and can capture other calls with a manual New capture.

Does Supernormal record interview audio or video?

No. Supernormal's help center says video and audio recording were retired on March 2, 2026, with no plans to bring them back in the near future. You get a transcript, a summary and action items, but no recording to replay, as of October 2026.

Does Supernormal tell candidates they are being recorded?

Not automatically. Supernormal's home page says clients never see a recording notice or bot participant, and its help center says notifying participants is the responsibility of each user, as of October 2026. Tell the candidate yourself before capture starts, and consider switching off automatic capture for interviews.

How much does Supernormal cost for interviews?

Supernormal uses credits, as of October 2026: the Free plan has 15 credits a month with up to 5 a day, Team is $20 a month for 50 credits or $18 a month billed annually, and Business is $40 a month. Credits cover capturing meetings, generating notes and prompting, and Supernormal does not publish how many credits one meeting uses.
