Zoom's AI features, branded AI Companion until June 2026, give paid Zoom Workplace users meeting summaries and transcription at no additional cost, and My Notes, which takes notes on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and in-person conversations with no bot; Zoom Workplace Pro is $14.16 a user a month billed yearly as of October 2026. Interview Signal is a desktop app built for interviews: it also works with no bot beside Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and computer-based phone screens, but adds a question guide from the job description during the call, a scorecard backed by the candidate's quotes, and a client submittal. Neither writes into an applicant tracking system. Choose Zoom's built-in AI if you already pay for Zoom and a summary is enough; choose Interview Signal if you need interview structure and a write-up you can send.

We make Interview Signal. Every fact about Zoom below comes from Zoom's own site, support center or newsroom, checked in October 2026 and linked. For a fuller guide to using Zoom's AI with candidates, see Zoom AI Companion for interviews.

What happened to the AI Companion name?

In a June 24, 2026 post, Zoom said the AI features are now found "under their functional names rather than the AI Companion brand," and that "Eligible paid Zoom Workplace plans continue to include core AI features at no additional cost," naming meeting summaries, smart compose, transcription, call summaries and voicemail prioritization. ZoomMate, an agentic add-on, launched on June 1, 2026 at $20 per user per month with AI credits included, starting in North America. For interviews, the two features that matter are Meeting Summary and My Notes.

How do Interview Signal and Zoom's AI compare at a glance?

Does Zoom's AI join the call as a bot?

No. Meeting Summary is built into the Zoom meeting itself; Zoom's support article says it "uses speech-to-text data to generate summary of the meeting" and that participants see the AI indicator change color when it runs. The catch for recruiters is control: "Only the meeting host and co-host can start or stop the Meeting summary." If a client or hiring manager hosts, you can request it but not switch it on.

My Notes closes that gap. Zoom's My Notes page says it can "Automatically take notes across Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and other third-party meeting platforms — no bots required," and the support article explains that for third-party apps and in-person meetings it "uses the system and microphone audio on the device." It needs a Pro, Business, Enterprise or My Notes standalone account and the Zoom Workplace desktop app for Windows or macOS, version 6.7.5 or later, and the notes "aren't automatically shared" with the host. Zoom adds: "make sure you follow all applicable laws when transcribing conversations, which may include providing notice."

Interview Signal works the same way as My Notes at the capture level: it runs on Windows 10/11 or macOS 13 or newer, listens on the interviewer's computer, labels the microphone as the interviewer and the meeting's sound as the candidate, and adds nothing to the meeting. For notice, it includes a read-aloud consent line, notice text by jurisdiction and a one-click pause. Our guide to recording a Zoom interview without a bot compares the options in detail.

Which one handles phone screens?

Zoom's June post lists call summaries among the AI features included in eligible paid plans; if your team already calls through Zoom, ask your admin whether that covers your phone screens. For other softphones, My Notes transcribes third-party apps from device audio, but Zoom's article names examples such as Teams, Slack and Chrome rather than phone calls, so test yours. The mobile app does not support My Notes with third-party platforms.

Interview Signal captures any phone screen that runs through the computer's audio. It has no mobile app. See our guide to recording a phone screen.

What do you get from the interview?

Zoom's output is general-purpose: a meeting summary for the host, and from My Notes a transcript, your own typed notes, and summaries, key takeaways and next steps. That is often enough for a hiring manager who needs a reminder of what was said. We did not find a question guide, a hiring scorecard or a client submittal described for these features.

Interview Signal is specific to interviews. During the call it builds a question guide from the job description, pins must-ask questions until asked, suggests follow-ups with a reason (probe, clarify or evidence), fills the scorecard as you go and scores on demand with Evaluate, with an optional second model (Dual AI). A private answer check flags answers that read as AI-written or read aloud and offers a question to try; it never changes a score or reaches the submittal. Afterward, every score carries the candidate's quotes, checked against the transcript, and the client submittal follows your agency's template.

Zoom also owns an interview product: it announced the acquisition of BrightHire in November 2025, describing interview planning, automated notes, feedback workflows and ATS integrations. That is a separate product from Zoom Workplace's built-in AI; we compare it in Interview Signal vs BrightHire.

Where does the interview data go, and does it reach your ATS?

Zoom's support articles say meeting summaries reach participants by email or in Zoom Chat after the meeting, and that My Notes notes are yours and are not automatically shared; check your Zoom admin's settings for who can see what. Neither feature is described with an ATS integration, so from there you copy them across.

Interview Signal keeps transcripts, quotes, candidate names, notes and submittals on the recruiter's computer. Audio goes to a speech-to-text provider in short chunks during the call and is not retained, and our server keeps only counts and durations (security details). It has no ATS integration either: it exports by copy, Markdown, Word, a CSV row, email or Slack, and shapes notes for Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever or JobAdder for you to paste.

How much does each one cost?

Zoom prices are from its pricing page and My Notes page, and Interview Signal's from ours, as of October 2026. Totals are our arithmetic.

On price alone, Zoom wins for anyone already on a paid Workplace plan. Interview Signal costs extra because it does interview-specific work Zoom's general features do not describe.

Should you choose Zoom's AI or Interview Signal?

Choose Zoom's built-in AI if:

  • You already pay for Zoom Workplace and want interview summaries for nothing extra.
  • A summary and your own notes are enough for your debriefs.
  • Your calls already run through Zoom and you want their summaries in the same place.
  • You want My Notes' bot-free capture across Zoom, Teams and Google Meet at a low standalone price.

Choose Interview Signal if:

  • You want a question guide, follow-ups and a live scorecard during the interview.
  • You need a scorecard with quotes checked against the transcript, or a client submittal.
  • You want transcripts kept on your own computer rather than in a cloud account.
  • You can accept no ATS integration, desktop only, no video, and a newer product with few public reviews.

Best for, in one line: Zoom's built-in AI is best for anyone already on paid Zoom who wants interview summaries at no extra cost; Interview Signal is best for recruiters who need structured, evidence-backed interview output.

What should you test before you decide?

1. Run one interview you host with Meeting Summary on, and one
hosted by someone else with My Notes. Compare the output.
2. Run the same interview with Interview Signal and compare its
   scorecard with Zoom's summary.
3. Run one phone screen through each, on your real phone setup.
4. Check your Zoom admin settings for who can see summaries.
5. Decide which output you would send to a client unedited.

Interview Signal's 20 free minutes cover one real screen, and the walkthrough shows the full flow. With any tool, give candidates notice; our consent script has wording you can read aloud.

Questions people ask

Is Zoom AI Companion enough for job interviews, or do I need Interview Signal?

If you already pay for Zoom Workplace and a summary of each interview is enough, Zoom's built-in meeting summaries and My Notes cost nothing extra, as of October 2026. Interview Signal adds what Zoom's general features do not describe: a question guide from the job description during the call, a scorecard backed by the candidate's quotes, and a client submittal.

Is Zoom AI Companion still called AI Companion?

Not as a product name. In a June 24, 2026 post Zoom said the features now appear under their functional names rather than the AI Companion brand, and that eligible paid Zoom Workplace plans continue to include core AI features such as meeting summaries and transcription at no additional cost. ZoomMate is a separate paid add-on.

Can Zoom's AI take notes on an interview held on Teams or Google Meet?

Yes, through My Notes. Zoom says My Notes takes notes across Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and other platforms with no bot, using the desktop app's system and microphone audio, on Pro, Business, Enterprise or a My Notes standalone account. Interview Signal also works beside Zoom, Teams and Google Meet with no bot.

Who can turn on a Zoom meeting summary in an interview?

Only the meeting host or a co-host can start or stop Meeting Summary, according to Zoom's support article, and participants can request it. If a client or hiring manager hosts the interview, you cannot switch it on yourself; My Notes or a desktop tool such as Interview Signal works from your side of the call instead.
