Notta works for recruiting when you want an inexpensive transcript with a choice of capture: a bot, a bot-free desktop app for Mac and Windows, a Chrome extension, or an offline Privacy Mode on its Pro plan. Its standout for interviewers is bilingual transcription. As of October 2026 it names no applicant tracking system, describes no interview scorecard, and its free plan stops each recording at 3 minutes, so recruiters need a paid plan and their own process for turning transcripts into evaluations.

Below: Notta's plans translated into interviews, how each capture mode behaves on a candidate call, where it stops for hiring, and a setup that makes it useful. Every fact links to the Notta page we checked.

What does Notta do well for interviews?

  • Low price for long calls. Pro allows up to 5 hours per recording and 1,800 minutes a month for $8.17 a month billed yearly (Notta pricing).
  • No bot if you want it. Notta Desktop "records system audio and your microphone directly on your computer," so no participant joins (bot-free recording).
  • Offline transcription. On Pro, Privacy Mode runs transcription "fully offline with a local model," and Notta says it "never uploads to the cloud." That is unusual among meeting note takers.
  • Languages. 58+ languages for transcription and bilingual transcription in 23, useful for interviews that switch language partway through.
  • Exports. Its interview transcription page lists TXT, DOCX, SRT, XLSX and PDF exports and share links that need no Notta account. It addresses "journalists, researchers, and HR professionals."

How much does Notta cost, in interview terms?

Published prices and limits as of October 2026, from Notta's pricing page. The last column is arithmetic so you can see what the limits mean.

PlanPrice (billed yearly)Minutes per monthLongest recordingWhat that means for interviews
Free$01203 minutesNot usable for interviews; fine for testing the interface
Pro$8.17/mo ($97.99/yr)1,8005 hours60 half-hour screens or 40 45-minute interviews a month
Business$16.67/mo ($199.99/yr)Unlimited5 hoursA full-time recruiter's calendar; adds video recording and CRM and Zapier integration
EnterpriseCustom, from 51 seatsCustom5 hoursAdds SAML SSO, audit logs and full data access control

The page shows a 40% discount for yearly billing on Pro and Business but did not show monthly prices in the text we could read. There is a 7-day Business trial, which is the realistic way to test Notta on real interviews given the free plan's 3-minute cap. Two add-ons matter for interviewers: monolingual real-time translation at $6 a month billed yearly or $10 monthly, and bilingual transcription and translation at $9 or $15, each after a few free uses a month.

How does Notta capture an interview?

ModeWhat the candidate seesUse it for
Online Meeting RecorderA bot that "joins your call"Internal meetings, not candidate calls
Notta Desktop, bot-freeNothing in the meetingZoom, Meet and Teams interviews; macOS 13+ or Windows 10+
Privacy Mode (Pro)Nothing in the meetingSensitive roles where you want transcription to stay on the laptop
Chrome extensionNothing in the meetingBrowser-based calls when you cannot install the desktop app
Notta MemoA device on your phoneNotta says it records "calls and meetings"; a separate hardware purchase

Notta's bot-free page says the desktop app supports 26+ apps on macOS and 17+ on Windows, including Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Slack. In standard mode, audio "is uploaded securely for real-time transcription"; Privacy Mode needs a one-time local model download and at least 1 GB free. Notta does not say on those pages how phone screens should be captured, apart from the Memo device.

Where does Notta stop for recruiting?

These are gaps we could not find covered on Notta's own pages as of October 2026.

  • No ATS. The integrations page lists CRMs (Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM and others), Zapier, Notion and Slack, but no Greenhouse, Lever, Bullhorn or JobAdder.
  • No interview structure. Nothing describes question guides, must-ask tracking or scorecards. Custom AI templates (5 on Pro, unlimited on Business) are the closest thing.
  • No consent feature described. The bot-free page does not mention a notice to participants. With no bot visible, telling the candidate is entirely on you.
  • Phone screens are an afterthought. Only the Memo hardware mentions calls.
  • Built for every audience. Its "Built for" list names consultants, sales, customer success, media and education, not recruiting.

Is Notta a better fit for agencies or in-house teams?

Neither is the obvious home, but the gaps land differently. An in-house recruiter on Greenhouse or Lever loses the most from the missing ATS sync, because every scorecard has to be copied into a system other tools post to directly. An agency recruiter loses more from the missing phone capture and the lack of a client submittal: most screens happen by phone, and the transcript still has to be rewritten into something a client reads. For both, Notta is strongest as a low-cost record behind your own notes. Agencies weighing the wider field should read AI note takers for staffing agencies.

A setup that makes Notta work for interviews

  1. Use Notta Desktop, not the bot, for candidate calls, with headphones so the candidate's audio is clean.
  2. Turn on Privacy Mode for confidential searches if you are on Pro and your device supports the local model.
  3. Load custom vocabulary with client names, product names and technical terms. Pro allows 200 entries, Business 1,000, in English and Japanese.
  4. Say your notice line first. Our consent script has wording for one-party and all-party states. This is general information, not legal advice.
  5. Build one custom AI template for interviews, using the prompt below, and apply it to every screen so notes come out in the same shape.

A custom template prompt for interview notes

Paste this into a Notta custom AI template, with your competencies filled in. Treat the output as a draft.

This is a job interview transcript for [role].
For each competency below, list up to two exact quotes from the
candidate with timestamps. Quote word for word. If there is no
evidence, write "No evidence". Do not rate the candidate and do not
describe tone, accent, appearance or personality.

Competencies:
1. [Must-have 1]
2. [Must-have 2]
3. [Must-have 3]

Then list: compensation expectation, notice period, location or
work setup, work authorization, other interviews in progress,
and questions the transcript leaves open.

Checking a bilingual transcript before you quote it

Bilingual transcription is Notta's distinctive feature for recruiters hiring in two languages, and it fails in predictable places. Before a quote goes into a scorecard or submittal:

  • Check switch points. Words right where the candidate changes language are the most likely to be wrong or dropped.
  • Keep the original language in quotes. Quote what the candidate said, then add your translation in brackets, so a reader can tell which is which.
  • Re-check numbers. Salary figures and dates said in one language and written in another are easy to misread.
  • Confirm speaker labels. Make sure a quote is the candidate's, not your question read back.

When should you choose Notta, and when not?

Choose Notta if:

  • You hire in two languages and want bilingual transcription at a low price.
  • You want transcription that can stay on your laptop through Privacy Mode.
  • You are a hiring manager who wants a transcript to check notes against and will write the scorecard yourself.

Look elsewhere if:

  • Your notes must land in an ATS without copying.
  • Most of your screens are phone calls.
  • You want structure during the interview, not only a record after it.

We make Interview Signal, one alternative for that second group; everything about Notta above comes from Notta's own site, linked and dated. It is a desktop app with no bot that works on Zoom, Teams, Meet and phone screens through the computer's audio, runs a question guide from the job description, and builds the scorecard with quotes checked against the transcript, but it has no ATS integration either. For a structure you can use with any transcript, start from the interview scorecard template, and compare other bot-free options in AI note takers without a bot.

Questions people ask

Is Notta's free plan enough to record a job interview?

No. As of October 2026 Notta's free plan gives 120 transcription minutes a month but stops each conversation at 3 minutes, which is shorter than any interview. Pro, at $8.17 a month billed yearly, allows up to 5 hours per recording and 1,800 minutes a month.

Can Notta record an interview without a bot joining?

Yes. Notta Desktop for Mac and Windows records system audio and your microphone on your computer, so no bot joins, and Notta lists Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Slack among supported apps. Its Pro plan adds Privacy Mode, which transcribes offline with a local model.

Does Notta integrate with an applicant tracking system?

Not by name. Notta's integrations page, checked October 2026, lists CRMs such as Salesforce, HubSpot and Pipedrive, plus Zapier, Notion and Slack, but no ATS such as Greenhouse, Lever or Bullhorn. Plan to copy notes across or build a Zapier step.

Is Notta good for interviews in two languages?

It is one of the few note takers with bilingual transcription: Notta lists 23 languages for transcribing two languages at once, with four free uses a month and a paid add-on after that, as of October 2026. Check names, numbers and technical terms in the transcript before quoting it.
