The main Otter.ai alternatives for recruiters as of October 2026 are Fireflies for native ATS sync and phone calls captured on the desktop, Fathom and Granola for free or low-cost notes without a bot, Metaview and BrightHire for recruiting-specific interview notes, CoRecruit for staffing agencies, and Interview Signal for scorecards and client submittals built from the call. The right one depends on why you are leaving Otter: the 30-minute cap on its free plan, phone screens, the lack of a scorecard, or an agency ATS it does not list.

We make Interview Signal, one of the tools below; everything about the other products comes from their own sites, linked and dated.

What does Otter still do well for recruiters?

Otter is a sensible default, and it improved this year. Its desktop app records without a bot on macOS 12.3 or later and Windows 10 or later, and its help center now lists Microsoft Teams and dialers among the apps it detects (Otter help). Pro is $16.99 a month or $8.33 a month billed yearly (Otter pricing), and its Recruiting Agent adds resume summaries, interview agendas and Greenhouse sync (Otter Recruiting Agent). Our Otter for recruiting review covers it in depth; this page is about what to use instead.

Why do recruiters look for an Otter alternative?

  • The free plan is short. Basic gives 300 minutes a month, stops each conversation at 30 minutes, and keeps your 25 most recent conversations (Otter pricing).
  • Phone screens take extra steps. Otter says Apple and Google restrict third-party apps from recording phone calls, so calls must be recorded separately and imported (Otter help).
  • A summary is not a scorecard. The Recruiting Agent describes a strengths-and-concerns summary and sentiment analysis (Otter), not ratings against your competencies with evidence.
  • No agency ATS. Otter's integrations directory lists no applicant tracking system; Greenhouse appears only on the Recruiting Agent page, whose sync bullet mentions Zapier.
  • The bot carries your name. When Otter's Notetaker joins, it shows as your Notetaker and cannot join anonymously (Otter help).

Each alternative, and who it suits

Fireflies

Fireflies joins with a bot by default, but its desktop app records system audio on Windows and Mac without one and detects phone calls routed through FaceTime or Phone Link (Fireflies help). It lists native connections to seven applicant tracking systems (Fireflies). Its recruiting AI Skills include a candidate sentiment analyzer and culture fit extractor (Fireflies), which we would leave switched off. Best for: in-house recruiters on Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby.

Fathom

Fathom's free plan has unlimited recordings (Fathom pricing), and bot-free capture is live on Mac, while on Windows it is limited to a Microsoft Teams alpha, so a PC user should expect the bot to join (Fathom help). It does not record phone calls and names no ATS. Best for: hiring managers who want longer interviews recorded for free.

Granola

Granola never joins the call and does not keep meeting audio (Granola security); it fills out the notes you type from the transcript. Business is $14 per user per month (Granola pricing). We compare it with ours in Interview Signal vs Granola. Best for: interviewers who like typing their own notes and want no bot.

Metaview

Metaview is built for recruiting: it joins video calls as a participant, handles phone calls through its switchboard, and since October 12, 2026 has a desktop app for Mac and Windows that records without a bot (Metaview). Pro is $60 per user per month (Metaview pricing). Best for: recruiting teams that want interview-specific notes in a long list of ATSs.

BrightHire

BrightHire runs inside Zoom without a per-call bot, drafts ATS scorecards from its notes, and lists click-to-call from the ATS among its integrations (BrightHire). Prices are not published. Best for: in-house teams that interview mainly on Zoom.

CoRecruit

CoRecruit takes notes with "no meeting disruption or visible bots", includes VoIP with unlimited US and Canada calling, and lists Bullhorn, Vincere, Loxo and Crelate plus more than 40 others. Starter is $85 per user per month on an annual term or $64 paid annually, with a 12-month minimum and a 7-day trial (CoRecruit pricing). Best for: staffing and recruitment agencies.

Interview Signal

Ours is a Windows and Mac desktop app with no bot that works beside Zoom, Teams, Meet and phone screens taken through the computer. It shows a question guide from the job description during the call, then writes a scorecard whose quotes are checked against the transcript and a client submittal in your template. Hour packs start at $9 and never expire; Solo is $49 a month (pricing). Weaknesses: no ATS integration, desktop only with no mobile app, no video recording, few public reviews yet, and phone screens must run through the computer. A direct comparison is in Interview Signal vs Otter. Best for: recruiters whose work after the call is a scorecard or a submittal.

How do I move from Otter without losing interview records?

  1. Decide what you must keep. Interview notes that support a hiring decision may need to be kept for a set period; our guide to keeping interview notes covers the usual rules.
  2. Move the records you keep into your ATS or file store before cancelling, so they are not tied to one person's Otter account.
  3. Turn off Otter's auto-join while you trial the new tool, so candidates do not meet two note takers.
  4. Run both on the same five interviews, including one phone screen, and compare accuracy and minutes to a finished record.
  5. Update your consent line to name the new tool. Our consent script has wording.

When should you stay with Otter?

Stay if you interview a few times a month, mostly on video, and a transcript plus summary is all you send afterwards; or if your company already licenses Otter and the alternative is no note taker at all. Switch when a specific gap above costs you time every week. For the full picture of what interview tools cost, see AI interview note-taker pricing, and if your team is weighing several general tools, our Fireflies alternatives page covers the same ground from the other side.

Questions people ask
