Truffle (hiretruffle.com) is AI screening software for small teams doing high-volume hiring, not an AI note taker. Candidates complete a one-way video or audio interview, a resume step and optional assessments on their own time; Truffle scores each part against criteria drawn from your job description, ranks the list with the reasoning shown, and a person decides who moves on. As of November 2026 plans start at $49 a month for 200 credits, with a 7-day free trial of 30 credits and no card, and it connects natively to Ashby, Breezy HR, Bullhorn, JazzHR, Pinpoint, Recruitee, Teamtailor, Workable and Indeed. It does not join, record or transcribe live interviews or phone calls, so it replaces the first-round screen, not the interview that follows.
Every fact about Truffle below comes from hiretruffle.com, its product guides, Privacy Policy and trust pages, checked on November 2, 2026 and linked. Truffle's homepage shows customer quotes and a review-site rating; we leave both out.
What is Truffle, and is it an AI note taker?
Truffle's homepage calls it an "AI screening platform for small teams doing high-volume hiring", with three methods you can use alone or together: resume screening, one-way interviews and talent assessments. Its industry pages include staffing agencies, BPO and call centers, franchises, accounting and law firms. Plans include unlimited team members and positions, so it is priced by screening volume rather than by seat.
It is worth being clear about what Truffle is not, because it turns up in lists beside note takers. There is no live call in Truffle: candidates answer set questions on a recording, and nothing on Truffle's pages describes the AI asking follow-up questions as an interviewer would. If you are weighing the format itself, our explainer on one-way video interviews sets out when it fits.
How does a Truffle screening work?
From Truffle's one-way interview setup guide and limits and defaults page, as of November 2026:
- Describe the role. A position needs a description of at least 200 characters to go live, and Truffle rates it Thin, Workable or Strong. An optional role brief asks what winning looks like in 90 days, who would nail the job and who would struggle.
- Pick the screen. Truffle suggests which of resume, video interview and assessments to switch on, plus qualification checks such as work authorization or certifications.
- Set the interview. Answers on video or audio only; 30 seconds to think by default (none up to 5 minutes, or unlimited); 2 minutes to answer by default (1 to 3); 1 retake by default (none to 3); up to 10 questions. Truffle drafts the questions from your description, and a question you write yourself (up to 150 words) is checked for bias risk as you type.
- Share one link. Post the Position Link on job boards or your careers page, text it, import Indeed applicants, or invite by email, up to 50 people per send. Reminders go out after 1, 3 and 7 days.
- Candidates record on their own device. No app and no account. Truffle says a typical one-way interview takes 10 to 15 minutes.
- Review the ranked list. Magic Review steps through candidates with a 30-second highlight reel and keys to advance, hold or reject.
How does Truffle score candidates?
Truffle's How scoring works page sets out each signal:
- Interview: each question gets a rubric built from your description and role brief; answers are transcribed and scored, rolling up to a 0 to 100 match score (green from 70, amber 50 to 69, red below 50).
- Resume: criteria are drafted from the description, and a position cannot go live until someone marks them "Looks right" or edits them; each criterion shows its reasoning and the resume line behind it.
- Assessments: personality, work scenarios and environment fit, each read as High, Mid or Low.
- Overall: with two or more methods on, a Strong, Mixed or Weak roll-up.
- Candidate Shorts: highlight clips tagged with one of 33 competency dimensions, each with a "Why this matters" note.
Two design choices matter for fairness. Scoring is transcript-only: Truffle's AI for candidates page says it does no facial analysis, no voice-tone or accent analysis, no emotion inference and creates no biometric identifiers. And scores never move a candidate; the only automatic rejection is a qualification rule you write, such as a required certification. Human reviewers can also rate candidates on a team scorecard of up to 10 criteria at 1 to 5 stars, and members cannot see colleagues' reviews until they submit their own. One suggestion: the starter scorecard includes "Cultural fit"; replace it with a job-related criterion you can define.
What does the candidate go through?
Truffle's candidate walkthrough describes a welcome screen that says AI is used and asks for consent, a microphone and camera check, the questions, any assessments and a resume upload at the end. Candidates can withdraw, can request deletion of their data (permanently deleted within 30 days once confirmed, backups included) and can choose "Prefer not to be scored by AI? Request an alternative", which goes to an accommodation contact you set. The welcome screen also warns that AI-generated responses are not allowed and may lead to disqualification.
Completion is the cost of the format. On the same page, Truffle reports that between July 30 and September 23, 2026, 55% of candidates who started a Truffle screening finished it. Plan for the other share: keep interviews short, offer a clear alternative, and see our guide to ADA accommodations in interviews before you make a recorded interview mandatory.
How much does Truffle cost?
From Truffle's pricing page, as of November 2026. Every feature is on every plan; plans differ only by credits.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing, per month | Credits a month | Unused credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free trial | $0 for 7 days, no card | n/a | 30 | n/a |
| Starter | $49 | Not offered | 200 | No roll-over; hard cap, no overage |
| Core | $119 | $99 | 600 | Roll over 12 months, up to 3× the pool; extra credits 25¢ |
| Team | $239 | $199 | 1,500 | Same as Core |
| Scale | $599 | $499 | 4,000 | Same as Core |
| Custom | Book a call | n/a | Custom | n/a |
A scored resume costs 1 credit, an assessed candidate 2 (all three assessments) and a completed one-way interview 5, charged only when the candidate finishes. As an example of the arithmetic: 300 resumes (300 credits), 40 candidates assessed (80) and 20 interviews (100) come to 480 credits, which fits Core's 600. Truffle's FAQ also notes that its old flat $149 plan was retired in June 2026, so a listing that still shows it is out of date. The trial does not include integrations or the API.
Which ATS does Truffle connect to?
Truffle's integrations page lists native connections to Ashby, Breezy HR, Bullhorn, JazzHR, Pinpoint, Recruitee, Teamtailor, Workable and Indeed. Most write back the match score, a summary and a link to the screening; Ashby also gets the questions and answers and the assessment score. In Breezy HR, Workable, Recruitee and Teamtailor, moving a candidate into a chosen stage sends the screening on its own. Greenhouse, Lever and BambooHR go through Zapier, and the REST API (two webhook events) is on paid plans once Truffle approves access.
For staffing desks, the Bullhorn page describes a Bullhorn workflow step that sends the screening, scores and AI summaries written to candidate fields or a structured note, and a shareable link bundling the score, summary, a Candidate Short and assessment results for client submissions; it says it works with Bullhorn for Salesforce too. Our page on AI note takers for Bullhorn covers the interview stage that follows. Without an ATS, Truffle exports candidate lists as CSV or JSON and one candidate at a time as a PDF; a zip of PDFs needs an annual plan (export guide).
What should you check on AI rules and candidate data?
Illinois. The Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act (820 ILCS 42), as of November 2026, applies to employers that ask applicants to record video interviews and use AI analysis of them for Illinois-based positions. Before the interview you must notify the applicant, explain how the AI works and the general types of characteristics it uses, and get consent (section 5). Videos may be shared only with people whose expertise or technology is needed to evaluate the applicant (section 10), which is worth weighing before you send a client a share link. On request you must delete the videos within 30 days and tell anyone who received copies to do the same (section 15). An employer that relies solely on the AI analysis to decide who gets an in-person interview must report race and ethnicity data to the state each year (section 20). Truffle's consent screen and deletion link help, but the duties are yours; our Illinois guide goes section by section.
New York City. Local Law 144 bars using an automated employment decision tool without a bias audit in the past year and notice to candidates (NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection). Truffle says it commissions independent bias audits each year and will publish the current summary once the in-progress audit is complete; as of November 2026 it was not yet posted. Ask for it before screening for New York City roles, and read our Local Law 144 guide.
Data. Truffle's security page and Privacy Policy (updated October 8, 2026) say data is hosted on Amazon Web Services and processed in the United States, with Standard Contractual Clauses where needed. Recordings and transcripts are kept for the retention period set on the hiring company's plan, then deleted from active systems within 30 days. Sub-processors include OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and ElevenLabs, and Truffle says candidate interviews are not used to train any AI model. After cancellation the account stays read-only for 90 days, then its data is deleted.
Personality. The personality assessment scores five traits, including emotional stability, against directions you choose; Truffle never suggests them. Tie each one to a job requirement you can explain, and see types of pre-employment assessments. None of this is legal advice.
Where does Truffle stop for recruiting?
- No live interviews or phone screens. Truffle screens before the conversation. It takes no notes in a Zoom, Teams or phone interview.
- Scores are only as good as the description. Rubrics come from your job description and role brief; a Thin description gives you weak criteria.
- A recorded interview is not for every candidate. Senior and passive candidates may decline a one-way format, and Truffle's own figure shows many who start do not finish.
- Greenhouse and Lever are not native. They connect through Zapier or the API.
- US processing. Teams hiring in the EU or UK should review transfers and notices first.

Who should choose Truffle?
A good fit if:
- You get hundreds of applicants per role and cannot phone-screen them all.
- You want resume, interview and assessment results in one ranked list, with the reasoning visible.
- You want a published, self-serve price and unlimited users, without a sales call.
- Your ATS is one of its native connections, or you work without an ATS.
Look elsewhere if:
- Your shortlist is small and senior, and a live conversation is the screen.
- You need notes from live interviews and phone calls rather than recorded answers.
- You hire for New York City roles and need a published bias audit today.
We make Interview Signal, a desktop app for the live interview that comes after a screen like Truffle's: it captures Zoom, Teams, Meet and phone screens run through the computer with no bot and drafts a scorecard with quotes checked against the transcript, though it does not screen applicants and has no ATS integration; everything about Truffle on this page comes from Truffle's own site, linked and dated.
Questions people ask
Is Truffle an AI note taker for interviews?
No. As of November 2026 Truffle (hiretruffle.com) is an AI screening platform: candidates complete a one-way video or audio interview, a resume step and optional assessments on their own time, and Truffle scores and ranks them. It does not join, record or transcribe live interviews or phone calls, so it replaces the first-round screen rather than taking notes in the interview that follows.
How much does Truffle cost?
As of November 2026 Truffle's Starter plan is $49 a month for 200 credits, billed monthly only. Core is $99 a month billed annually or $119 monthly for 600 credits, Team is $199 or $239 for 1,500, and Scale is $499 or $599 for 4,000. A scored resume costs 1 credit, an assessed candidate 2 and a completed one-way interview 5, and there is a 7-day free trial with 30 credits and no card.
Does Truffle integrate with Bullhorn or Greenhouse?
Truffle lists native connections to Ashby, Breezy HR, Bullhorn, JazzHR, Pinpoint, Recruitee, Teamtailor, Workable and Indeed as of November 2026, and says its Bullhorn connection writes scores and AI summaries back to the candidate record. Greenhouse, Lever and BambooHR connect through Zapier or Truffle's API rather than natively.
Does Truffle's AI reject candidates or analyze their faces?
Truffle says no to both as of November 2026. Its AI scores the transcript of each answer against a rubric for the role and never advances, holds or rejects anyone; the only automatic rejection is a qualification rule the employer writes. Truffle says it does no facial analysis, voice-tone or emotion analysis, and creates no biometric identifiers.
