Humanly's AI Notetaker and Interview Signal both turn an interview into notes, but they come from opposite directions. Humanly (humanly.io) is an AI recruiting platform for high-volume, hourly hiring whose notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls as a participant and uploads a summary and transcript to your applicant tracking system (ATS), with no published price as of October 2026. Interview Signal (interviewersignal.com) is a Windows and macOS desktop app that captures the call on the interviewer's own computer with no bot, guides the interview while it happens and drafts a scorecard and client submittal, from $49 a month on Solo, but writes nothing into an ATS. Choose Humanly if automatic write-back and one platform for a large, distributed interviewing team matter most; choose Interview Signal if you want no bot, phone screens through your computer and help during the call.
We make Interview Signal. Every fact about Humanly below was checked on Humanly's own site in October 2026 and is linked so you can confirm it. For Humanly on its own, see Humanly AI Notetaker for recruiting.

How does each one get into the interview?
Humanly sends a bot. Its product page says you add the notetaker to a Zoom, Meet or Teams interview "like a normal attendee," and its FAQ calls it a "silent participant." Your organization decides whether it joins every scheduled interview or only the ones you invite it to. On Teams, Microsoft's admin documentation says the default policy detects external bots and keeps them in the lobby until an organizer admits them, so someone has to let it in.
Interview Signal sends nothing. It runs on the interviewer's computer, labels the microphone as the interviewer and the meeting's sound as the candidate, and works beside Zoom, Teams and Meet without joining them. The candidate sees an ordinary call. You start it yourself, with a consent line to read aloud and a one-click pause.
Here Humanly has a real advantage for one kind of team. If, for example, fifty store managers interview across a region, a bot that joins every scheduled call needs nothing installed on fifty laptops, and nobody has to remember to press start. Interview Signal only works when the interviewer has the app open on a Windows or Mac computer. The security trade-offs of the two methods are set out in meeting bot vs on-device note taker.
Phone screens and in-person interviews
Humanly names Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet for the notetaker and describes neither phone calls nor in-person interviews. Interview Signal captures a phone screen the same way it captures a video call, through the computer's audio, so a softphone or desktop calling app works; a call on a mobile that never touches the computer does not.
In person, neither is strong. Interview Signal will transcribe an interview in a room, but both voices go on the interviewer's microphone, so it cannot tell the candidate's words from yours: areas come back as "Probe further", scores above 5 are capped, and follow-ups and "Score as we go" do not start on their own. You press Evaluate, add your own scores with +, and press the refresh arrow for follow-ups. For onsite work, see AI note takers for in-person interviews.
What you get during and after the interview
Humanly's output is the summary. It is configurable by role, interview type or stage, it is ready right after the call, and it covers strengths, risks, competency coverage and key moments. It also reports talk-time balance, words per minute, candidate sentiment, empathy and curiosity signals and behavioral cues. Those last items describe how a candidate spoke rather than what they have done. If you hire in New York City, check the city's rules on automated employment decision tools; if you interview EU candidates, the European Commission's guidelines on prohibited AI practices treat emotion recognition during recruitment as prohibited. Not legal advice; ask counsel which of Humanly's signals to switch on.
Interview Signal works during the call. It builds a question guide from the job description with must-ask questions pinned until asked, suggests follow-ups with a reason (probe, clarify, evidence) and fills a scorecard as the interview goes, with Evaluate to score on demand. Afterwards each score carries the candidate's own quotes, and any quote not found in the transcript is removed. It also writes a client submittal in the agency's template. It does not score sentiment or tone. A private answer check flags answers that read as AI-written or read out and suggests a question to try, but it never changes a score and never goes in the submittal.
Which one works with your ATS?
Humanly, clearly. It says the notetaker detects the candidate and the requisition, uploads the summary, transcript and metadata under a "Humanly" section, and lets you reassign a mismatch by hand. Its partners page lists Greenhouse, iCIMS, Lever, JazzHR, Jobvite, Taleo, Workday and SAP among its technology partners, and it also has its own ATS.
Interview Signal has no ATS integration of any kind. You copy the scorecard or submittal, or export it as Markdown, Word, a CSV row, email or Slack, and paste notes shaped for Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever or JobAdder into the record yourself. If retyping notes into the ATS is your team's real complaint, weigh this first. If you are an agency on Bullhorn or JobAdder, note that neither appears on Humanly's partner list either, so ask before assuming write-back.
Where does the interview data go?
Humanly keeps interviews in its platform and pushes them to your ATS. Its privacy policy says it may record calls and video interviews between customers and candidates, that using its services counts as consent to that recording, and that personal data is kept only as long as necessary; its South Africa section says interview recordings are kept for the duration of the client contract. That clause does not replace telling the candidate yourself; our consent script has wording.
Interview Signal keeps transcripts, quotes, candidate names, notes and submittals on the recruiter's computer. Audio goes to a speech-to-text provider in short chunks during the call and is not retained, and the server keeps only counts and durations. Two caveats: the candidate's name and company are sent to the AI model when it writes the submittal, and saved roles (title, job description, brief, kit) and templates are stored on the team account (security details). It does not record video.
How do the prices compare?
They cannot be compared from public information. Humanly publishes no price; every call to action leads to a demo request. Interview Signal's free plan is 20 minutes of transcription with no card; hour packs are $9 for one, $29 for five and $69 for fifteen, bought once and never expiring; Solo is $49 a month or $468 a year; Team is $59 a seat a month, or $49 a seat billed yearly, with a minimum of three seats (pricing).
| Situation | Humanly | Interview Signal |
|---|---|---|
| One recruiter, billed yearly | Quote on request | Solo: $468/yr |
| Team of 3, billed yearly | Quote on request | 3 × $49 × 12 = $1,764/yr |
| Trying it before talking to sales | Demo first | 20 free minutes, then hour packs from $9 |
If you are already buying Humanly's AI Recruiter, AI Interviewer or ATS, ask for the notetaker's price inside that bundle and as a separate line, so you can compare it with a standalone tool.
Choose Humanly if / choose Interview Signal if
Choose Humanly if:
- Many interviewers across locations run video interviews and you want notes captured with nothing installed on their computers.
- Your ATS is one of Humanly's partners, or you use Humanly's own ATS, and automatic write-back matters most.
- You also want AI screening, AI interviews and scheduling from the same vendor.
- A visible bot is acceptable to your candidates and your meeting policies.
Choose Interview Signal if:
- You want no participant added to the call, on Zoom, Teams, Meet or a phone screen through your computer.
- You want the question guide and follow-ups during the interview, not only a summary after it.
- You send client submittals and want the scorecard's quotes checked against the transcript first.
- You want a published price and a free tier to test before any sales call.
Interview Signal is a newer product with few public reviews, is desktop only (no mobile or web app) and does not record video, so test it on real interviews before you commit a team. Other bot-free tools are compared in AI note takers without a bot.
What to test before you decide
Ask Humanly for a pilot, run Interview Signal's free minutes on the same roles, tell candidates, and check:
1. A Teams interview hosted by a hiring manager. Was the bot held
in the lobby, and did anyone admit it?
2. A phone screen on your usual setup. Was it captured at all?
3. Three quotes from the summary or scorecard against the
transcript. Were they the candidate's exact words?
4. Your ATS record: did the notes land on the right candidate
and requisition, or did you paste them?
5. Which candidate signals reached the hiring manager, and
would you defend each one if a candidate asked?
Score the answers the same day. If question 4 decides it for your team, Humanly's write-back is hard to beat; if questions 1, 2 and 5 do, Interview Signal is the closer fit.
Questions people ask
Is Interview Signal an alternative to Humanly's AI Notetaker?
For the note-taking part, yes, but they work differently. Humanly's AI Notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams interviews as a participant and uploads a summary and transcript to your ATS. Interview Signal is a desktop app that captures the call on the interviewer's own computer with no bot, guides the interview while it happens and drafts a scorecard and submittal, but has no ATS integration.
Which writes interview notes into an ATS automatically?
Humanly does. As of October 2026 it says the notetaker attaches the summary, transcript and interview details to the right candidate and requisition in your ATS or in Humanly's own ATS. Interview Signal has no ATS integration; it produces notes shaped for Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever or JobAdder that you paste in by hand.
Which is cheaper, Humanly or Interview Signal?
There is no way to tell from public information, because Humanly publishes no price and sells through a demo as of October 2026. Interview Signal's prices are public: 20 free minutes, hour packs from $9, Solo at $49 a month or $468 a year, and Team at $59 per seat a month or $49 billed yearly with a minimum of three seats.
Can either one capture a phone screen?
Interview Signal can when the call runs through your computer's audio, for example on a softphone. Humanly's pages name only Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet for the AI Notetaker as of October 2026, so a phone screen needs another method.
