Bluedot works for recruiting when you want bot-free interview notes from a Chrome extension or desktop app and your ATS is Ashby. As of October 2026 its recruiters page describes structured interview notes with salary expectations and notice period, its help center documents an Ashby sync and a Zoom Phone integration, and plans run from $14 a month billed yearly. ATS integrations sit on the $32 Business plan, the Basic plan stops each recording at one hour, and no structured scorecard is described.
Below: what Bluedot's own pages say about recruiting, its plans in interview terms, how capture and consent work on a candidate call, how the Ashby sync behaves, and where it stops.
What does Bluedot do well for interviews?
- Bot-free capture in the browser. The Chrome extension records "bot-free" on Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, Slack huddles and Webex, and also works in Edge, Brave and Arc. You choose audio and video, audio only, or transcript only.
- A recruiter-shaped summary. The recruiters page says the summary covers "experience, salary expectations, notice period, and next steps."
- Ashby sync, documented. The help center explains the setup step by step, which is more than many vendors publish.
- Pay only for recorders. The pricing FAQ says Bluedot charges only "for users who record meetings," so hiring managers who only read notes do not need a seat.
- Security basics. SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, AES-256 encryption and no AI training on your data, per the extension page.
Bluedot's plans, in interview terms
From Bluedot's pricing page, as of October 2026. The last column is ours.
| Plan | Per user, yearly | Per user, monthly | Key limits | What that means for interviews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 5 meetings in total; Chrome extension | A trial of five interviews, once |
| Basic | $14 | $18 | Audio only; max 1 hour per recording | Fine for screens; a long final interview gets cut at 60 minutes |
| Pro | $20 | $25 | Video; unlimited duration; custom note templates | Full interviews and panels, with your own note template |
| Business | $32 | $39 | CRM and ATS integrations, SSO, SCIM, custom data retention | The plan you need for Ashby sync and a retention policy |
| Flat rate | Pricing on request | One price for the company | Large teams | |
Yearly, Pro is $20 × 12 = $240 per recording user and Business is $32 × 12 = $384. One line in the FAQ deserves attention: if you cancel, "you will lose access to your recordings," with one month to restore before they are permanently deleted. Export what your records policy requires before you cancel.
How does Bluedot capture an interview?
| Mode | Platforms | What the candidate sees |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome extension | Meet, Zoom, Teams, Slack huddles, Webex in the browser | Nothing, unless the chat notice is on |
| Desktop app | Teams on Windows; Teams, Zoom and Meet on Mac (macOS 12.3+, Apple Silicon) | Nothing, unless the chat notice is on |
| Meeting bot | Calendar meetings, or a pasted meeting link | "[Your name]'s AI NoteTaker," which you must admit |
| Zoom Phone integration | Calls recorded in Zoom Phone | Whatever Zoom Phone announces |
| Mobile app | In-person, on iOS and Android | A phone on the table |
Sources: the desktop page, Bluedot's help articles on recording notifications, the meeting bot and the desktop app FAQ. Bluedot's bot article makes a fair point for the bot: some companies require a visible recording indicator for compliance, and a bot keeps recording if your laptop sleeps.
Phone screens through Zoom Phone
Bluedot's Zoom Phone article says that once an admin connects it, "any call you make or receive through Zoom Phone with recording enabled will be sent to Bluedot automatically" after the call ends. Bluedot "only retrieves a recording after the call has ended," recordings are private by default, and your consent announcement ends up in the transcript. For recruiters on Zoom Phone, that is a clean phone-screen route. Other phone systems are not documented; see how to record a phone screen for alternatives.
How does the Ashby sync work in practice?
From Bluedot's Ashby article:
- An Admin or Owner in Bluedot connects the workspace once, using an Ashby API key with read access to candidates, jobs, interviews and hiring process metadata and write access to candidates.
- Bluedot matches interviews scheduled in Ashby with the meetings it recorded.
- An interviewer clicks Sync to Ashby to send interview feedback into Ashby.
Two conditions trip people up:
- Emails must match. "The email of whoever records the meeting must match their email in Ashby." A recruiter who records from a personal or alias address will not sync.
- The syncer must be on the panel. Whoever clicks Sync to Ashby "should be one of the interviewers listed on that Ashby interview event." A coordinator cannot sync on an interviewer's behalf.
The sync sends feedback, so read it before you click. Our Ashby note-taker guide compares Ashby's own note taker with outside tools.
Consent settings to decide before the first candidate call
- Chat notice. The extension and desktop app can notify participants in the meeting chat when recording starts. Each user can turn it off.
- Workspace rule. A workspace owner can turn on "Prevent non-admins from recording without a consent message," which sends the notice whatever each member chose. For a recruiting team, turn it on.
- Discreet by default on desktop. The desktop FAQ says the app records "without a visible desktop notification" and reminds you that recording without consent is illegal in some places.
- Auto-record. Auto-record on Meet is optional and off by default; keep it off for interviews so every recording starts after your notice.
A chat message is easy to miss, so say a line out loud too. Our consent script has wording, and two-party consent states lists where everyone must agree. This is general information, not legal advice.
A setup that makes Bluedot work for interviews
- Pick Pro or Business, not Basic, if any interview can run past an hour, so recordings are not cut off.
- Record from the extension or desktop app for candidate calls, and keep the bot for internal debriefs where a visible recorder is expected.
- Turn on the workspace consent message and keep auto-record off, so every recording starts after you have spoken to the candidate.
- Create one interview note template (Pro and above) with a section per must-have competency asking for the candidate's exact words, plus a logistics section for pay, notice period, location and work authorization.
- Connect Ashby with the right emails and test one sync on a mock interview before the team relies on it.
- Set custom data retention on Business to match your records policy, rather than keeping every interview indefinitely.
Before anything goes to a hiring manager or into Ashby, read the summary against the transcript. Check numbers, which are where summaries go wrong quietly, and "I" versus "we" in the examples the candidate gave. Leave out impressions of tone or confidence: they are not job criteria and do not belong in a candidate record.
Where does Bluedot stop for recruiting?
- One ATS documented. Ashby is the only ATS with a help article; the integrations page lists HubSpot and Salesforce among CRMs but no Greenhouse, Lever or Bullhorn.
- Notes, not scores. Structured notes and custom templates, but no competency scorecard with evidence is described.
- Nothing during the interview. No question guide or must-ask tracking is described.
- Windows desktop covers Teams only, per the notification article; Windows users on Zoom or Meet use the extension.
- Cancel and lose recordings, after a one-month grace period.
Bluedot next to recruiting-specific tools
| Need | Bluedot | Recruiting-specific tools |
|---|---|---|
| Bot-free capture | Strong: extension and desktop | Varies |
| ATS sync | Ashby, on Business | Wider lists in some |
| Phone screens | Zoom Phone, after the call | Dialers or computer-audio capture in some |
| Scorecards with evidence | Not described | Core feature in several |
| Consent enforcement | Workspace-level consent message | Built in, in some |
Who should choose Bluedot?
- Suits: in-house teams on Ashby who want interview feedback synced without a bot in the call.
- Suits: recruiters on Zoom Phone who want screens and video interviews in one place.
- Suits: teams where many people read notes but few record, given per-recorder pricing.
- Look elsewhere if: your ATS is not Ashby, or your process needs scored evidence rather than summaries.
We make Interview Signal, one alternative for that last case; everything about Bluedot here comes from Bluedot's own site, linked and dated. It is a Windows and macOS desktop app with no bot that scores during the call with quotes checked against the transcript and covers phone screens through the computer's audio, but it has no ATS integration at all. More bot-free options are compared in AI note takers without a bot.
Questions people ask
Does Bluedot join interviews as a bot?
Not by default. Bluedot's Chrome extension and desktop apps record without a bot, according to its own pages as of October 2026. It also offers an optional meeting bot that joins as your AI note taker and has to be admitted, for people who prefer a visible recorder.
Which ATS does Bluedot integrate with?
Bluedot's help center documents an Ashby integration that matches interviews scheduled in Ashby and syncs interview feedback into it. Its pricing page lists CRM and ATS integrations on the Business plan, $32 per user a month billed yearly, without naming other ATS, as of October 2026.
Can Bluedot record phone screens?
If your team uses Zoom Phone, yes, after the call. Bluedot's Zoom Phone integration picks up calls recorded in Zoom Phone once they end and turns them into transcripts and notes. It does not join or listen to calls live. Other phone systems are not documented.
Does Bluedot tell candidates they are being recorded?
It can. The Chrome extension and desktop app have a setting that posts a recording notice in the meeting chat, and a workspace owner can require a consent message for non-admins. The notice can also be switched off, so decide your policy and say a notice line yourself as well.
