Ashby's AI Notetaker already does most of what a notetaker integration would: it records Zoom, Meet and Teams interviews, keeps the recording and transcript on the interview briefing, and offers "Autofill with AI" on the feedback form. So the useful question for an Ashby customer is narrower: what can a third-party tool write into Ashby that the native feature does not, and what access do you have to give it?

The answers differ sharply. Metaview can submit feedback forms and needs a broad write permission to post notes at all. BrightHire pushes a link and notes to the activity feed and cannot touch structured fields. CoRecruit writes summaries and field values to the candidate record. This page sets out each, as of October 2026, with links. For a wider list of tools and a stage-by-stage coverage map, see our Ashby AI Notetaker alternatives guide.

What Ashby does natively

From Ashby's AI Notetaker overview, scheduling guide, post-interview guide, FAQs and add-on page, as of October 2026:

  • Capture: Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, not Teams on GCC High or Zoom Gov. It joins up to a minute early as its own participant. On Meet and Teams it must be admitted by a host, and on Zoom too if a waiting room is on.
  • Not captured: interviews with a Phone Call or Custom location.
  • Where output lives: a Recording tab in the interview briefing, with the recording on the left and tabs for Transcript, Notes and an AI Assistant. Notes contain a summary and themes with clickable timestamps.
  • Feedback autofill: "Autofill with AI" at the bottom of the feedback form generates suggestions for long, formattable text fields, with timestamps, which the interviewer appends or discards. Interviewers still provide their own judgment.
  • Debriefs: the notetaker can be added to debriefs the same way as interviews.
  • Consent: disclosure messaging with an opt-out goes in calendar invites; once a candidate opts out, recording is disabled on their scheduled and future interviews. Interviewers cannot opt themselves out, though admins can disable it per employee.
  • Languages and training: over 99 languages with automatic detection; the FAQ says recordings and notes are not used to train models.
  • Plans: an add-on on Foundations, Plus, Enterprise and legacy Plus. Foundations pricing is shown in the product, Plus and Enterprise on request, and 500 interviews are included to try with no expiry.

Notice what autofill does not do: fill ratings, yes/no or multiple-choice fields. The scoring stays with the interviewer, which is also how the third-party tools below behave.

Metaview: the scope you cannot narrow

Metaview's Ashby guide has an Ashby Company Admin create an API key with Read All and Candidates Write, then paste it into Metaview. Two details matter more than the steps:

  • Candidates Write is all or nothing. Metaview notes that posting notes needs it, and that Ashby does not let you grant note posting without also allowing candidate moves, sourced candidate creation and scorecard submission. Your security review should treat the key as one that can change pipeline state.
  • Attribution. Selecting "Allow acting on behalf of a user" makes notes, submitted scorecards and candidate moves show the person who did them, rather than the API key's service account. Without it, your audit trail shows the integration, not the recruiter.

On features, Metaview lists submitting scorecards from Metaview, posting notes, adding links to notes, and access to calls for users with Recruiter and Hiring Manager roles in Ashby. The scorecard appears when Metaview matches a call to an Ashby interview with a feedback form; it fills parts of it and leaves subjective fields blank. Submission is manual unless a workspace admin turns on automatic submission. Decide that switch before rollout, because automatic submission means a form can reach Ashby before the interviewer has read it.

The browser extension fills the form inside Ashby, but only on the full Interview Briefing page under the "Your Feedback" tab. If an interviewer opens the feedback form from a popup on the candidate profile or pipeline, the extension does not detect it. Put that in your interviewer guide or people will think it is broken.

BrightHire: plan a long-text field

Ashby's BrightHire article says interviews are scheduled in Ashby as usual, and afterwards BrightHire pushes a link to the recording, insights and notes to the candidate's activity feed. Role-based access can sync from Ashby when BrightHire's customer success team enables it. Because BrightHire cannot write to structured fields, notes fall into the first available long-text field on the form, so Ashby recommends adding one called something like "BrightHire Notes" at the start of each feedback form. Do that before the first interview, or notes land in whichever text box happens to come first. BrightHire is quote-only.

CoRecruit

CoRecruit's Ashby page says it pushes summaries, action items and insights into Ashby candidate records when each call ends, including standard and custom fields, and captures Zoom, Teams, Webex, mobile calls and VoIP. Its page does not detail setup or pricing; ask which Ashby permissions it needs, given the Candidates Write point above.

Phone screens

This is the main reason Ashby customers add anything. The native notetaker does not record Phone Call locations. CoRecruit lists mobile calls and VoIP. Metaview's phone calls guide describes calling through its own number. Alternatively, move recruiter screens to video in Ashby so the native tool covers them. Our guide to recording a phone screen compares the routes.

How to choose

  • Video loops scheduled in Ashby: the native AI Notetaker, starting with the 500 included interviews.
  • You want forms submitted from the notetaker and a free tier: Metaview, after your security team accepts the Candidates Write scope.
  • You want interview intelligence and coaching on mostly Zoom interviews: BrightHire, with a long-text field added to every form.
  • Phone-heavy recruiting: a tool that captures mobile calls, or video screens in Ashby.

Metaview publishes a free tier of 25 calls a month and Pro at $60 a user a month (pricing), as of October 2026.

What to test before rollout

CheckPass looks likeResult
Key scopeSecurity has signed off on what the API key can change, not just read
AttributionNotes and submitted forms show the interviewer's name, not the integration
Field landingThird-party notes land in the field you created for them
Ratings untouchedScores and recommendations are entered by the interviewer
Opt-out carried throughA candidate who opts out in Ashby is not recorded by the other tool either
DeletionA candidate's recording and transcript can be deleted in both systems

The opt-out row is the one teams miss. Ashby tracks consent for its own notetaker. A second tool has its own consent flow, so a candidate who declined in Ashby could still be recorded on a phone screen unless your process checks.

A feedback format for Ashby's long-text fields

[Interview] – [Role] – [Date]

Evidence for my rating:
- [Focus area]: "[candidate's words]" (timestamp)
- [Focus area]: "[candidate's words]" (timestamp)

What I could not assess: [ ]
Follow-up for the next interviewer: [ ]

Keep ratings in Ashby's structured fields and evidence in the text field. Our guide to evidence-based feedback has more examples, and our consent script covers calls outside Ashby's invite disclosure.

Standalone tools, and who each option suits

Interview Signal has no Ashby integration. It is a desktop app with no bot that captures audio on the interviewer's computer, including phone screens, and exports a scorecard quoting the candidate that you paste into an Ashby feedback field.

  • Ashby AI Notetaker: most Ashby customers running video interviews and debriefs.
  • Metaview: teams that want forms submitted from the notetaker and accept the broader API scope.
  • BrightHire: larger Zoom-based teams wanting highlights and analytics.
  • CoRecruit or a desktop tool: recruiters whose screens happen on mobile phones.

Questions people ask

Does Ashby have a built-in AI notetaker?

Yes. Ashby AI Notetaker records, transcribes and summarizes Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams interviews and debriefs, and is sold as an add-on on Foundations, Plus, Enterprise and legacy Plus plans with 500 interviews to try at no cost and no expiry, as of October 2026. Interviews with a phone call or custom location are not recorded.

Which Ashby feedback fields can the native AI fill?

Ashby's post-interview documentation says Autofill with AI works on long, formattable text fields in feedback forms. It suggests content with timestamps that the interviewer appends or discards, and interviewers still have to give their own evaluation before submitting.

What Ashby API permissions does Metaview need?

Metaview's help center lists read scopes plus Candidates Write as required, as of October 2026. It notes that Candidates Write is broad: Ashby does not let you grant note posting without also allowing candidate moves, sourced candidate creation and scorecard submission. An Ashby Company Admin creates the key.

Can BrightHire fill Ashby scorecard ratings?

No. Ashby's BrightHire article says BrightHire cannot write back to yes/no, multiple-choice or other structured fields. Notes go to the first available long-text field, so Ashby recommends adding a long-text field such as BrightHire Notes to your feedback forms.
