Interview Signal checks for a new version when it opens and every six hours after that. When one is out, it shows "Version … is available." with a "Download" button, and the new installer downloads in your browser. The app never installs anything by itself, so it cannot restart in the middle of an interview; you run the installer when you are between calls. As of October 2026 the current release is 0.9.10, released on 23 October 2026, with one version number for both Windows and macOS.

How do I know a new version is out?

  • A message after the app opens. Once the window has loaded, and then every six hours while it stays open, the app reads Interview Signal's release list and compares it with the version you are running. If yours is older you see, for example, "Version 0.9.11 is available." (example) with a "Download" button. The message closes itself after about twelve seconds, or press ×.
  • Silence when there is nothing to say. If you are up to date, or the computer is offline, the check shows nothing. Someone opening the app a minute before a call does not get a dialog about updates.
  • The Update line in Settings. Under "App", "Update" reads "up to date", or names the newer version, for example "0.9.11 is available" (example).

How do I check for updates myself?

  1. On the home screen, press "Settings" at the top.
  2. Find the "App" panel. "Version" shows the version you are running; the same number sits at the top right of the Settings screen, for example "v0.9.10".
  3. Press "Check for updates". The Update line reads "checking…", then "up to date" or the newer version number.
  4. If there is a newer version, a message with "Download" appears and stays until you press it or close it.

If the check cannot reach the release list, the line reads "could not check — no connection. The latest is always at interviewersignal.com/download; if it keeps failing, write to [email protected]." The download page is built from the same release list the app reads, so it always offers the current version.

How do I install the new version?

"Download" opens the installer for your system in your browser. For 0.9.10 that is Interview-Signal-Setup-0.9.10.exe on Windows and Interview-Signal-0.9.10-universal.dmg on macOS. End any interview you are in first, then:

On Windows 10 or 11

  1. Run the downloaded installer. It installs for your own Windows user, so no administrator password is needed.
  2. The Windows build is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC". Compare the file's SHA-256 with the one on the download page, then choose "More info" and "Run anyway".
  3. Open Interview Signal and check "Version" in Settings.

On macOS 13 or newer

  1. Open the DMG and drag Interview Signal to Applications, replacing the older copy.
  2. Open it from Applications. The Mac build is universal (Apple silicon and Intel), signed and notarized.
  3. Check "Version" in Settings.

To check a download yourself, run Get-FileHash .\Interview-Signal-Setup-0.9.10.exe -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell on Windows, or shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Interview-Signal-0.9.10-universal.dmg in Terminal on macOS. The result should match the SHA-256 published with the release on the download page. First-time setup, permissions and hardware are covered in system requirements.

Will I lose my interviews or settings when I update?

No. Your interviews, your settings and the copy of your roles kept for offline use live in the app's data folder on your computer, which is separate from the program itself, so installing a new version over the old one leaves them in place. Saved roles and submittal templates are also kept on your Interview Signal account, and transcripts and submittals were only ever on your computer. "Open the folder" in Settings shows where the interviews are, and where your data is stored lists what is kept where.

Why doesn't Interview Signal update itself?

On purpose. Interview Signal runs beside live client and candidate calls, and an updater that could restart the app mid-interview is a worse problem than running the previous version for a few more hours. So the app only compares version numbers and hands the download link to your browser. The app itself never downloads or runs an installer; you do, when it suits you.

Where can I read what changed?

On the changelog. Its top entry is read from the same release list the app checks, so it always describes the version the app will offer you, and earlier releases are listed below it. The message inside the app names the version only. Recent releases, from the release notes:

VersionWhat changed for the person using it
0.9.10 (23 October 2026)Ctrl + and Ctrl −, or Ctrl and the mouse wheel, zoom the whole window, with a bubble showing the new size; the same controls are in Settings. See keyboard shortcuts and zoom.
0.9.9 and 0.9.10The live guide became one line per question, grouped by category, with Pin; "+ Add" puts in your own question or three suggested ones; "Ask this" moves a follow-up onto the guide, pinned; green and red marks on technical claims; a box under the follow-ups for your own questions to the AI.
0.9.8A new home screen: one "Start an interview" bar, a "To finish" group, roles shown as pipelines, Compare and search.
0.9.7The consent step became optional and no longer blocks Start; whichever option you tick is recorded.
0.9.6Transcripts in languages written in other scripts, such as Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin Chinese, stopped losing sentences that earlier builds discarded as noise.
0.9.0 (10 September 2026)The first build.

Which version am I on, and why does it matter?

  • For support. "Copy diagnostics" in Settings puts the version at the top of what it copies, with the app log and your machine's details and no interview content, so support can see which build you run.
  • For the guides. Each Interview Signal guide on this site says which version it describes; those written in October 2026 describe 0.9.10. If your Settings shows an older number, a button described in a guide may not be in your copy yet.
  • Across systems. The release list carries one version for Windows and macOS, so 0.9.10 means the same features on both.

What updates do not do

  • They do not install automatically, and there is no setting to make them.
  • The app does not show release notes; the changelog does.
  • The Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may warn when you run a new one. The download page says a signed installer is coming.
  • There is nothing to update on Linux, a phone or the web: the app runs on Windows 10 or 11 and macOS 13 or newer only.

Questions people ask

Does Interview Signal update automatically?

No. Interview Signal checks for a new version when it opens and every six hours, and when one is out it shows a message such as Version 0.9.11 is available with a Download button. The button opens the new installer in your browser, and you run it yourself between interviews. The app never installs an update on its own, so it cannot restart during a call.

How do I see which version of Interview Signal I have?

Open Settings from the home screen. The App panel shows Version, and the version also appears at the top right of the Settings screen, for example v0.9.10. As of October 2026 the current release is 0.9.10, released on 23 October 2026. Press Check for updates to compare yours with the latest.

Will updating Interview Signal delete my interviews?

No. Interviews, settings and the offline copy of your roles are kept in the app's data folder on your computer, separate from the program itself, so installing a new version over the old one leaves them where they are. Saved roles and submittal templates are also stored on your Interview Signal account.

Why does Windows warn me when I install an Interview Signal update?

As of October 2026 the Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen can show Windows protected your PC. Compare the file's SHA-256 with the one published on the Interview Signal download page, then choose More info and Run anyway. The macOS build is signed and notarized.

Where can I see what changed in the latest Interview Signal version?

On the changelog page at interviewersignal.com/changelog. Its top entry is read from the same release list the app checks, so it always describes the version the app offers you, and earlier releases are listed below it. The update message inside the app names the version only.
