Metaview and Otter.ai both transcribe and summarize interviews, but only one is built for recruiting. As of October 2026, Metaview is a recruiting platform whose notes and scorecards post to more than 100 ATS, with phone capture through a switchboard and Pro at $60 per user per month. Otter is a general meeting note-taker from $8.33 per user per month billed yearly, with a Recruiting Agent that syncs to Greenhouse. Choose Metaview when interview notes must land in your ATS as structured feedback; choose Otter when you mainly need cheap, searchable transcripts.
Vendor facts below come from Metaview's and Otter's own sites and help centers, checked in October 2026 and linked. Our single-product reviews go deeper on each: Metaview alternatives starts from Metaview, and Otter.ai for recruiting covers Otter's setup for interviews.

What does each one produce after an interview?
This is the real difference, more than price. Metaview's interview notes page describes notes structured as questions and answers or topic highlights from reusable templates, answers mapped into scorecards, shareable candidate summaries, short video snippets, and reports on question coverage and talk time. It says "notes and completed scorecards post to the candidate's record automatically."
Otter's Recruiting Agent page describes a different set: résumé and LinkedIn summaries before the call, interview questions generated from the profile, real-time transcription with key phrases marked, a post-interview summary of strengths, weaknesses and concerns, and drafted feedback emails, with notes syncing to Greenhouse. The same page says the agent "analyzes the candidate's emotional tone and sentiment."
Treat that last feature carefully. Tone and sentiment are not job criteria, and scoring candidates on them invites exactly the inconsistency structured interviews are meant to remove. If you use Otter for interviews, keep sentiment out of the scorecard and score each answer against the competency, on a template like our interview scorecard.
How does each one get into the call?
Video interviews
Metaview's Notes FAQ describes a Notetaker bot on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex and Zoom that a host may need to admit from the lobby. In October 2026 Metaview added a desktop app for Mac and Windows that records "without a bot joining the call"; its supported meeting apps and plans are not listed yet.
Otter's pricing page says its Notetaker joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. Its desktop app for Mac and Windows records "without a bot across Slack Huddles, Zoom, Google Meet, and in-person." Teams is not on that list, so on Teams interviews Otter means a bot.
Notice and sharing
Otter's help center documents a "Default audience for shared notes" setting; choose "Don't Share" before candidate calls so notes are not sent to meeting guests, and check events you set individually, which keep their own setting (Otter help). Metaview's FAQ shows a status for when a candidate opted out of Metaview joining, so opt-out is built into its flow.
Which one handles phone screens?
Metaview's phone FAQ describes registering your outbound number, then calling through its switchboard or one-click calling from the browser or your phone. It works with mobile, landline and VoIP services including Teams Phone, Google Voice, RingCentral and Aircall, but not WhatsApp or FaceTime, and does not capture general inbound calls. No extra charge for the phone option, per the FAQ.
Otter's dialer integrations include Zoom Phone and RingCentral, each behind a "Contact sales" button, and its pricing page lists "Custom integrations (CRM, dialers)" under Enterprise. We did not find a documented way on Otter's pages to capture a screen made from an ordinary mobile number outside those dialers. For phone-heavy desks, Metaview is the more complete answer; our guide to recording a phone screen covers the setups in general.
How much does each cost for a recruiting team?
As listed on each pricing page, as of October 2026:
- Metaview: Free at $0 with 25 calls per month (calls older than 14 days restricted); Pro at $60 per user per month with unlimited calls; Enterprise tailored.
- Otter: Basic free with 300 minutes per user per month and a 30-minute cap per conversation; Pro at $16.99 monthly or $8.33 per month billed yearly, with 1,200 minutes and up to 90 minutes per meeting; Business at $30 monthly or $19.99 billed yearly, with unlimited meetings up to 4 hours each; Enterprise by demo.
Two Otter details change the math for recruiting. The 30-minute cap on Basic cuts off most interviews, so the free plan is a trial rather than a working setup. And Otter's comparison table lists a maximum of 5 billed users on Pro and 25 on Business, so a team of ten lands on Business.
| Example team | Metaview Pro | Otter Business, billed yearly |
|---|---|---|
| 10 recruiters | 10 × $60 × 12 = $7,200 a year | 10 × $19.99 × 12 = $2,398.80 a year |
| 20 recruiters | 20 × $60 × 12 = $14,400 a year | 20 × $19.99 × 12 = $4,797.60 a year |
The difference pays for itself only if Metaview's ATS write-back and scorecards save recruiter time you would otherwise spend copying notes. Count that time in a two-week trial rather than estimating it. Our AI interview note-taker pricing guide sets these against other tools.
How do they handle security, retention and admin?
Candidate interviews are personal data, so check the controls as well as the notes. Metaview's homepage lists SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, CCPA, LGPD and PIPEDA, SSO, and 256-bit AES encryption, and its Notes FAQ says calls removed under your organization's retention settings are deleted for all users and are not recoverable. Its interview notes page mentions configurable candidate opt-out language, retention windows and an audit trail.
Otter's pricing page puts activity logs and usage analytics on Business, and SSO, SCIM and domain capture on Enterprise, where the comparison table notes a minimum 100-user license for SSO and SCIM. A 15-person recruiting team that needs single sign-on for candidate data will find that threshold matters more than the per-seat price.
Which one should you choose?
| Your situation | Leans toward | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Feedback must land in the ATS as a scorecard | Metaview | Scorecards post to the candidate record |
| ATS other than Greenhouse | Metaview | Otter names only Greenhouse |
| Phone screens from a mobile or VoIP line | Metaview | Switchboard works with any registered outbound number |
| Hiring managers who interview a few times a month | Otter | Low per-seat cost, general-purpose transcripts |
| Interviews on Zoom or Meet, no bot wanted, today | Otter | Desktop app lists Zoom and Meet without a bot |
| Interviews on Webex | Metaview | Webex listed; not in Otter's Notetaker list |
| Budget under $10 a seat | Otter | Pro billed yearly at $8.33, up to 5 users |
Best for: Metaview suits in-house talent teams and recruiter-led agency desks that need structured notes and scorecards inside the ATS. Otter suits hiring managers and small teams who want transcripts and summaries at a low price and will move the evidence into a scorecard themselves.
How should you run a fair two-week trial?
- Pick two recruiters and one hiring manager. Each uses both tools on alternate interviews.
- Include at least two phone screens and one interview longer than 45 minutes.
- For each interview, record minutes from hang-up to finished ATS feedback.
- Check three facts per call against the recording: current pay, notice period, one number from a project. Count errors.
- Ask each interviewer which notes they would defend in a debrief, and why.
If both tools pass on accuracy, the minutes saved per interview decide it. For other pairings, see Fireflies vs Otter for recruiting and Metaview vs Carv.
What if neither fits?
Some teams want something between the two: built for interviews like Metaview, priced closer to Otter, and with nothing joining the call. We make Interview Signal, a Windows and macOS desktop app with no bot that builds a question guide from the job description and writes a scorecard with the candidate's quotes, at published prices from $9 for an hour of transcription; its trade-offs are no ATS integration and no mobile app. Everything about Metaview and Otter on this page comes from their own sites, linked and dated.
Questions people ask
Is Metaview better than Otter for recruiting?
For recruiting teams that need notes and scorecards in the ATS, usually yes: Metaview lists more than 100 ATS integrations and says completed scorecards post to the candidate record, while Otter names only a Greenhouse sync in its Recruiting Agent. Otter is far cheaper, starting at $8.33 per user per month billed yearly against Metaview Pro at $60, as of October 2026, so it suits hiring managers and small teams that only need transcripts and summaries.
Can Otter's free plan record a full job interview?
Usually not in one piece. Otter's pricing page lists Basic at 300 minutes per user per month with a maximum of 30 minutes per conversation, as of October 2026, which cuts off most interviews. Pro raises the limit to 90 minutes per meeting and Business to 4 hours.
Which records phone screens, Metaview or Otter?
Metaview captures phone screens when you call through its switchboard or one-click calling from a registered number, including VoIP services like Teams Phone, RingCentral and Aircall. Otter lists dialer integrations for Zoom Phone and RingCentral through its sales team, and its pricing page places dialer integrations under Enterprise, as of October 2026.
Do Metaview and Otter join interviews as a bot?
Both have a bot that joins Zoom, Teams and Google Meet, and both now have a desktop app that records without one. Otter's desktop app lists Zoom, Google Meet, Slack Huddles and in-person conversations; Metaview's desktop app, launched in October 2026, is for Mac and Windows but does not yet list supported meeting apps.
