As of October 2026, the AI interview question generators worth comparing are Workable's free interview kit generator (a job title in, an editable kit with follow-ups out), Greenhouse's interview question suggestions inside its interview kits, BrightHire Plan and SocialTalent's AI Interview Planner (a job description in, a structured multi-round plan out), Avionté's AI-generated interview scripts for staffing firms on AviontéBOLD, general assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude, and Interview Signal, which builds a question guide from the job description and then suggests follow-ups during the call. They differ in what they read (a title, a job description or an intake conversation) and in whether they give you probes and scoring anchors or just a list of questions.

We make Interview Signal, one of the tools below; everything about the other products comes from their own sites, linked and dated.

What should an AI interview question generator give you?

A list of twenty questions is easy to generate and hard to use. The output is worth having when it includes:

  • Questions mapped to competencies taken from your job description, not from the job title alone.
  • Planned probes for each question, so interviewers dig the same way with every candidate.
  • What a strong answer includes, ideally as anchors for each point on the rating scale.
  • A sensible count for the time available. Two or three competencies in a 45-minute interview, not ten.
  • Nothing you cannot ask. No questions about protected characteristics; see illegal interview questions.

Those are the parts of an interview guide; the questions are only one of them.

Which AI interview question generators are worth using?

Each option, and who it suits

Workable's free interview kit generator

Type a job title, optionally pick an industry, and Workable generates an interview kit you can copy (Workable). Its help center says visitors get 3 AI generations a day, while logged-in users get 30 a day and 100 a month and can edit sections, questions, answers and follow-up questions, choose a thumbs, 5-star or 1-to-10 rating scale, download a PDF and record evaluations (access, using the tools). Best for: a hiring manager who needs a reasonable kit tonight. Watch for: it starts from a title, so it knows nothing about your must-haves until you edit them in.

Greenhouse interview question suggestions

In Greenhouse, open an interview in the interview plan, go to the Interview Questions panel and select Get suggestions. Greenhouse says suggestions come from the job title, job description and existing attributes, that it typically suggests one question per five minutes of interview time and three more each time you ask, and that an admin enables the feature under Configure, AI Tools (Greenhouse support). Its AI features table lists it on all tiers, with OpenAI as the provider, and also lists AI scorecard attribute suggestions (Greenhouse AI features). Best for: Greenhouse customers, because the questions land in the kit interviewers already use. Watch for: the article describes questions, not rating anchors; write those yourself.

BrightHire Plan

BrightHire describes Plan as turning a job description into "a robust hiring plan" with "competency-based interview questions," alongside tools that draft and check job descriptions, and its page offers a free start (BrightHire Plan). Its pricing page lists AI that builds job descriptions and interview plans on the Teams plan; prices are not published (pricing). Best for: teams that want the job description, the plan and later the interview notes in one product. Watch for: most of the value assumes you also run interviews in BrightHire.

SocialTalent AI Interview Planner

SocialTalent says its planner, powered by its AI assistant Cara, pulls the job description from your ATS and builds a multi-round interview plan with competencies, time allocations, a scoring rubric for every question with strong, acceptable and weak benchmarks, and structured follow-ups, in under five minutes; the plan launches inside Teams, Zoom or a standalone window, and scores sync back to the ATS (SocialTalent). Its help center says the AI uses the role title, description, required skills and structured interview practice, and that regenerating replaces the existing plan (help article). Best for: large employers standardizing interview loops across many hiring managers. Watch for: no published price, and regenerating overwrites your edits.

AviontéBOLD AI-generated scripts

Avionté's help center describes two kinds of interview script: AI-generated scripts that "adapt to each unique candidate and job combination," and questionnaire-based scripts that keep questions consistent across the team. Both let recruiters type notes against each question and generate an AI summary; scripts and AI-generated questions are English only (Avionté). Best for: staffing desks on Avionté. Watch for: a script that changes per candidate makes candidates harder to compare; use the questionnaire scripts for anything you score.

Metaview Screening, if an AI will ask the questions

Metaview Screening is a different case: an AI interviewer asks the questions. Attach a job description and Metaview drafts an interview plan of steps, each with a goal, questions and a rubric for a strong answer, which you edit before publishing. Creating and previewing screens is free; each evaluated interview uses credits (overview, credits). Best for: teams that want an AI-led first round. Watch for: it is a screening product, not a generator for human interviewers.

ChatGPT and Claude

Both have free plans, and Claude Pro is $20 a month billed monthly (ChatGPT pricing, Claude pricing). A general assistant is only as good as what you give it, which is also its advantage: paste the job description and your intake notes, and it can work from your real must-haves. An example prompt:

Here is a job description and the hiring manager's intake notes.
1. List the 3 competencies that matter most on day one, with a one-line
   definition each.
2. For each, write 2 behavioral questions, 3 planned probes, and a 1-4
rating scale with a specific description of each level.
3. Flag any question that touches age, family, health, religion,
national origin or other protected characteristics, and remove it.
Do not invent requirements that are not in the text.

Best for: custom drafts. Watch for: do not paste candidate personal data, and check every question; our ChatGPT prompts for recruiters cover the data rules.

Interview Signal

Ours builds a question guide from the job description and keeps must-ask questions pinned on screen until they are asked. During the call it suggests follow-ups with a reason (probe, clarify or evidence), so the generator keeps working after the first answer, and it can export next-round questions afterwards. Best for: recruiters and hiring managers who want the questions and the follow-ups in the same place as the live call. Watch for: desktop only (Windows and Mac), no ATS integration, and a newer product with few public reviews.

How do you check AI-generated questions before an interview?

  1. Trace each question to the job. If you cannot name the competency it tests, delete it.
  2. Remove anything off-limits, and anything that invites it, such as "where did you grow up?"
  3. Turn hypotheticals into past behavior where you can. "How would you handle a difficult client?" becomes "Tell me about the last time a client escalated something to your manager."
  4. Add probes and anchors if the tool did not. The method is in how to build an interview scorecard with AI.
  5. Check the panel for duplicates. Generators love the same five questions; split them so no two interviewers ask the same one.
  6. Save the good ones. Questions that worked belong in a shared bank; see how to build an interview question bank.

How do you choose?

  • Free, tonight: Workable's kit generator, then edit in your must-haves.
  • On Greenhouse: use its suggestions inside the interview kit.
  • Standardizing loops across a large company: SocialTalent's planner or BrightHire Plan.
  • On Avionté: its questionnaire-based scripts for scored questions.
  • Custom drafts from your own notes: ChatGPT or Claude with a careful prompt.
  • Help during the interview itself: Interview Signal.

Questions people ask

Is there a free AI interview question generator?

Yes. As of October 2026, Workable's interview kit generator is free: visitors get 3 AI generations a day without signing up, and logged-in users get 30 a day and 100 a month, with editable questions, follow-ups and a rating scale. ChatGPT and Claude also have free plans that will draft questions from a job description you paste in.

Can Greenhouse generate interview questions with AI?

Yes. Greenhouse's interview question suggestions draft questions for an interview kit from the job title, job description and the job's scorecard attributes. Greenhouse says it typically suggests one question for every five minutes of interview time, and an admin turns the feature on under Configure, AI Tools.

Which AI tool writes interview questions with scoring rubrics?

As of October 2026, SocialTalent's AI Interview Planner says it generates a scoring rubric for every question with strong, acceptable and weak answer benchmarks, and Metaview Screening drafts a rubric for each question in an AI-led screening interview. Workable's free kit generator includes suggested answers and a choice of rating scale. With general chatbots, ask for anchors explicitly and check them.

Are AI-generated interview questions legal to use?

They can be, but you are responsible for them. Read every generated question and remove anything about age, family, health, religion, national origin or other protected characteristics, and anything not tied to the job. This is general information, not legal advice.
