Best AI note taker for Google Meet interviews in 2026
On this page
As of October 2026, the AI note takers that work best for Google Meet interviews are Meet's own Take notes for me and Transcripts (on eligible Workspace editions), Chrome extensions that transcribe without a bot (Tactiq, Fireflies and tl;dv), Read.ai's botless Meet integration, bots such as Metaview, BrightHire and Otter's Notetaker, and desktop apps that capture your computer's audio, including Granola and Interview Signal. Because Meet runs in the browser and its AI features depend on the organizer's Workspace edition, the right choice usually comes down to who organizes the meeting and whether you want anything visible in it.
We make Interview Signal, one of the tools below; everything about the other products comes from their own sites, linked and dated. For editions, retention and the candidate's view of Meet's built-in features in more depth, see Google Meet interview transcription.
What does Google Meet include for interviews?
- Take notes for me. AI notes in a Google Doc saved in the organizer's Drive and attached to the Calendar event; the organizer gets a recap email. It needs an eligible Google AI plan or Workspace edition, the organizer's edition must include it, Meet informs all participants with a pencil icon, and it supports English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, one language per meeting. With host management on, only hosts and co-hosts can turn it on (Google Meet Help).
- Transcripts. Available on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus, Workspace Individual and some education editions. The file is saved to the organizer's Drive, and a Transcripts icon is shown to everyone. It works on a computer or an Android device (Google Meet Help).
Both are good recaps of a meeting. Neither scores answers against your criteria, and both land in the organizer's Drive, which matters when a client or hiring manager organizes.

Each option, and who it suits
Meet's own Take notes for me and Transcripts
If you organize the interview on an eligible edition, these cost nothing extra and leave the notes in your Drive. Google recommends Take notes for me for meetings of 15 minutes to 8 hours in a single supported language (Google). Best for: in-house interviewers who organize their own Meet calls. Watch for: if a client or hiring manager organizes, the notes go to their Drive, not yours; and a mixed-language interview is not supported.
Chrome extensions: Tactiq, Fireflies and tl;dv
Meet runs in the browser, so extensions fit it well. Tactiq transcribes in real time with no bot and lists Google Meet, Zoom and Teams (Tactiq). Fireflies' help center says its extension "only works with Google Meet in Chrome" and records without the Fireflies bot (Fireflies). tl;dv tells recruiters to install its Chrome extension for Meet and Teams calls (tl;dv). Best for: recruiters who always interview in Chrome. Watch for: a different browser, or a phone, means no notes. Our Tactiq for recruiting review covers its notification options.
Read.ai
Read.ai announced a botless Google Meet integration on March 26, 2026, said it notifies participants before recording begins, and said the botless version and all Google integrations are on its free plan (Read.ai). The free plan includes 5 transcripts a month, up to an hour each (pricing). Best for: hiring managers with a handful of Meet interviews. Watch for: the one-hour cap. See Read.ai for interviews.
BrightHire and Metaview
On Google Meet, BrightHire joins through your calendar connection as a participant (BrightHire), and Metaview's notetaker joins as a participant that the host may need to admit (Metaview). Both write structured interview notes into an ATS. Best for: recruiting teams that schedule interviews from their ATS and accept a visible participant. Watch for: a candidate asking who the extra attendee is.
Granola and Otter's desktop app
Granola works with Meet without joining it (Granola), and Otter's desktop app records Google Meet without a bot (Otter). Best for: guests in someone else's meeting who want private notes. Watch for: Granola's free plan shows 30 days of history, and Otter's free plan stops at 30 minutes per conversation.
Interview Signal
Ours captures Meet audio on your Windows or Mac computer, with no bot and no dependence on the organizer’s Workspace edition. It adds a question guide from the job description, suggested follow-ups, a scorecard with checked quotes and a submittal, and keeps transcripts on your computer (security). Best for: recruiters who need a scorecard or submittal from every Meet screen. Watch for: no ATS integration, desktop only, no video recording.
What if a client or hiring manager organizes the Meet?
Agency recruiters and panel interviewers often join a Meet someone else scheduled. In that case:
- Built-in features belong to the organizer. Take notes for me and Transcripts depend on the organizer's edition, and the files land in the organizer's Drive. With host management on, you cannot start them at all.
- Bots need admitting. A participant that arrives from your calendar still has to get past the organizer's settings.
- Extensions and desktop apps are yours. They capture what your browser or computer hears, regardless of who organized, so the notes stay with you. Consent is still yours to ask for.
Settle it in the invite: ask whether the organizer plans to take notes and whether they mind you doing so, before the candidate joins.
What does the candidate see on a Google Meet interview?
| Option | What the candidate sees | Where the notes go |
|---|---|---|
| Take notes for me | Notice that notes are being taken, pencil icon | Organizer's Drive |
| Meet Transcripts | Transcripts icon, shown to everyone | Organizer's Drive |
| A bot (Metaview, BrightHire, Otter's Notetaker) | An extra participant | The vendor's system, then your ATS |
| Read.ai botless | A notification before recording, per Read.ai | Read.ai |
| Chrome extension or desktop app | Nothing from Meet; your spoken notice is the notice | The tool, or your computer |
Sources as linked above. When nothing appears on screen, say the consent line before you start; the consent script has wording you can adapt.

Questions people ask
Does Google Meet have a built-in AI note taker?
Yes. Take notes for me writes AI notes into a Google Doc saved in the organizer's Drive and emails the organizer a recap link. It needs an eligible Google Workspace edition or Google AI plan on the organizer's account, supports one language per meeting, and Meet tells every participant that notes are being taken.
Which AI note takers work on Google Meet without a bot?
As of October 2026: Tactiq's Chrome extension, the Fireflies Chrome extension (Google Meet in Chrome only), tl;dv's desktop app, Read.ai's botless Google Meet integration, Granola, Otter's desktop app and Interview Signal. Meet's own Transcripts and Take notes for me are also built in rather than bots.
Can I use Gemini notes if the candidate uses a personal Gmail account?
What matters is the organizer. Google's support page says the meeting organizer must have a Workspace edition that includes Take notes for me. A candidate joining from a personal account does not stop it, but they will see that notes are being taken.
Who can turn on Meet transcripts in an interview?
If host management is off, anyone from the host's domain can turn on Transcripts; if it is on, only the host and co-hosts can. Transcripts are saved to the organizer's Google Drive, and a Transcripts icon is shown to everyone in the meeting.
