Legal recruiters use Interview Signal to run lateral partner, associate, paralegal and legal support screens beside a video call or a phone call taken through their computer, with no bot in the meeting and with the transcript, candidate name and write-up kept on the recruiter's own computer. Kits come from the firm's job description and the recruiter's brief, every score carries the candidate's own words, and partner screens can use the built-in "Executive search" template, subtitled "Confidential candidate report". As of October 2026 Interview Signal does not run conflicts checks, verify bar admission or connect to an ATS, and what is said on the call is sent to the AI model, as set out below. This describes version 0.9.10.

  1. Name the role with confidentiality in mind. Saved roles (title, job description, brief and kit) are stored on the account and, on the Team plan, every recruiter on it sees them. If the firm is confidential, use a neutral "Role title" such as "Litigation partner, national firm, Chicago" (an example) and keep the firm's name out of the brief.
  2. Paste the job description and write the brief. In "What the client actually wants", put what the firm will not move on: practice area, class-year range, bar admissions, the portable business it expects, the platform reasons a move would make sense (an example list). The brief outranks the job description wherever they disagree.
  3. Pick the kit's shape. For partners, "Behavioural" ("Specific past situations and what they personally did.") with "Expert" difficulty; it gives only behavioural questions, so add logistics you need with "Add a question". For associates, "Balanced", which keeps notice period, compensation expectation and right to work as must-asks. For paralegals and legal assistants, "HR screen" or "Balanced".
  4. Choose the template before pressing "Generate the kit": "Executive search" for partners and senior counsel, "Exec one-pager" for associates, "Contract / temp" for contract attorneys and project work, with "Rate" in its top lines.
  5. Edit and save. Tick "Must ask" on the facts the firm needs, such as bar admission and timing, keep the list short, and press "Save role". See saved roles.

What stays confidential, and what leaves the computer?

WhereWhat
Only on the recruiter's computerThe transcript, scorecard quotes, candidate name, notes, CV and the report, in every format exported
Sent to the AI modelThe job description and brief when the kit is generated; the conversation as it happens, for follow-ups and scoring; the transcript, with the candidate's name and the company, when the report is written; an attached CV during the interview
Stored on the accountSaved roles and submittal templates
Sent to speech-to-textAudio, in short chunks during the call, not retained; no audio file is ever written
On Interview Signal's serverCounts and durations only, such as questions covered and interview length

"Company or client" on the pre-interview screen is optional, so leave it blank or use a code name for a confidential firm. To clear a computer, Settings has "Delete all local interviews", which removes every transcript, scorecard and submittal on it after you type DELETE; there is no other copy. The security page names every provider and says a data processing agreement is available on request; field-by-field detail is in where your data is stored.

How should I handle conflicts on a lateral screen?

  • Collect conflicts information in the firm's own process, not on the screen call. The app has no conflicts list and checks nothing. Attorney lateral screening questions covers what to collect and what not to.
  • Say so at the start. Ask the candidate to describe clients and matters in general terms. The consent line on the kit is editable ("Read at the start of the call. Edit it to sound like you."), so you can add a sentence of your own.
  • Pause if names start coming. "Pause capture" stops both audio lanes at once, so nothing is transcribed or sent until "Resume capture", and the banner reads "Paused — nothing is being recorded." "Mute me" is not enough, because it silences only you. See live controls.
  • Read the report before it goes anywhere. The model takes every fact from the transcript, so a client name said on the call can appear in it.
FeatureWhy it matters in legal recruiting
Verified quotesA quote not found word for word in the transcript is removed, and an area left with none is capped at 5 and marked "Probe further"
Figures as spokenBook of business, collections and compensation keep the units the candidate used; a currency symbol the candidate never named is removed, with a warning
"Not discussed."A section the call did not reach says so, rather than being filled in
Your notesTyped notes go into the report as your observations, never inside quotation marks or attributed to the candidate
The CV as contextNothing in the report is sourced from the CV; its one use is a risk line where it claims something the interview did not establish. Paste Word CVs as text or save them as PDF
"Copy next round"What the firm's interviewers still need to cover: questions not asked, areas without evidence, areas never reached

The report also refers to the candidate as "they" unless the transcript uses a pronoun. The partner-report format is described in Interview Signal for executive search, and an admin can copy any template in the web account and add a fixed confidentiality line; see submittal templates.

  • No conflicts checks and no bar admission or standing checks.
  • No ATS integration. Copy the report, export it as Word, or use "Copy ATS note…" for Bullhorn, JobAdder, Greenhouse or Lever, and paste it into your system by hand.
  • In person, the scorecard needs you. Over a lunch table both voices reach one microphone, so areas come back "Probe further", scores above 5 are capped, and follow-ups and "Score as we go" do not start on their own; press "Evaluate", add scores with "+", and use the refresh arrow for follow-ups. See in-person interviews.
  • Desktop only, on Windows 10 or 11 or macOS 13 or newer; phone screens must run through the computer; no video.
  • Not legal advice. The consent line and notice text help you tell candidates; the rules depend on where you both are. See consent features.
  • A newer product with few public reviews.

As of October 2026: a solo legal recruiter fits Solo at $49 a month ($468 a year), with unlimited interviews and their own roles, kits and templates; a firm of three or more recruiters fits Team at $59 per seat per month, or $49 billed yearly, which shares roles and templates and adds panels and a weekly coaching report. Occasional screening fits Pay as you go hours ($9, $29 or $69 for 1, 5 or 15 hours), and every account starts with 20 free minutes. See pricing, then download the app. For question sets, see paralegal screening questions and the interview guide for legal roles.

Questions people ask

Is Interview Signal suitable for confidential lateral partner searches?

It keeps the transcript, quotes, candidate name, notes and report on the recruiter's own computer, never uploads them to Interview Signal, and keeps no audio. Two things do leave the computer: what is said on the call is sent to the AI model for follow-ups, scoring and the report, with the candidate's name and the firm when the report is written, and the saved role is stored on the account, so keep a confidential firm's name out of the role.

Does Interview Signal check conflicts or bar admission?

No. As of October 2026 Interview Signal runs no conflicts check, keeps no conflicts list and does not verify bar admission or standing. It records what the candidate said in the interview; conflicts information belongs in the hiring firm's own conflicts process, and bar status should be checked with the admitting authority.

What can I do if a lateral candidate starts naming clients on an Interview Signal call?

Press Pause capture. It stops both audio lanes at once, so nothing is transcribed or sent until you press Resume capture, and the paused time is left out of the interview's length. Mute me is not enough, because it silences only your microphone and the candidate is still transcribed.

Which Interview Signal template suits a lateral partner report?

The built-in Executive search template, subtitled Confidential candidate report, with an executive summary, leadership and scope, an assessment against the brief, strengths, areas to explore further, motivation, compensation and timing, and evidence from the interview. An admin can copy it in the web account and add the agency's own confidentiality line.
