Light industrial recruiters use Interview Signal to run short phone screens for warehouse, production, forklift and general labor orders through their computer, with the knock-outs that decide a placement, such as shift, transportation, pay rate and a required certification, set as must-ask questions that stay pinned until they are asked. The app transcribes the call with no bot, ticks questions off as you ask them, and writes a submittal in the built-in "Contract / temp" template, with "Available from" and "Rate" in its top lines. As of October 2026 it has no ATS integration, runs only on Windows and Mac computers, and hears a phone screen only when the call runs through the computer. This describes version 0.9.10.
How do I set up a light industrial job order?
- One role per order. Press "New role", give it a "Role title", and paste the client's order or posting into "Job description" (or paste the link under "Paste the posting link" and press "Fetch").
- Write what the site really requires into "What the client actually wants": the shift and start time, the site location and how people get there, the pay rate, safety footwear or other gear, and any certificate the client insists on (an example list). The app tells the kit generator that this box outranks the job description wherever they disagree.
- Choose a short kit. Set "Interview type" to "HR screen" ("Motivation, availability, compensation, right to work. Short and decisive."), "Difficulty" to "Easy" or "Medium", and "Submittal template" to "Contract / temp". If the screens run in Spanish, choose it under "Interview language" now. Press "Generate the kit".
- Cut it to the call you actually make. A generated kit usually has 8 to 14 questions, each with a planned answer time. Remove what you do not ask with ×, drag the knock-outs to the top, and tick "Must ask" on each one. A generated kit marks three to five must-asks; keep yours to the few that end a screen, because every must-ask stays pinned at the top of the guide until asked. Questions you add or reword are kept when you regenerate.
- Press "Save role". On the Team plan the app confirms "Role saved. Every recruiter on the team sees it.", so the whole branch screens one order the same way.
The kit generator is told not to write questions about age, family status, health or disability, religion, ethnicity or pregnancy, so physical requirements belong in essential-function wording you write yourself; light industrial screening questions has lawful wording, and the forklift, material handler and picker packer pages have role-specific knock-outs. More on building kits is in the kit from a job description.
How do I run a day of short screens?
- Start from the home screen. The "Start an interview" bar has the role you used last already picked. Type the name in "Candidate name (optional)" and press Enter, or press S when you are not typing in a field.
- Choose "Phone" under "How are you speaking?", run "Test audio" with the calling app open (Start waits for it), and read the consent line if notice is needed where you and the candidate are. Press "Start interview" and place the call.
- Ask the knock-outs first. The top bar keeps count, for example "must-ask 2/4" (an example).
- If a knock-out fails, end it. Press "End interview". With a must-ask still open the app lists it, says "These are the facts a client needs. End the interview anyway?", and asks you to type END. A call under two minutes that was never scored is treated as a false start and does not appear in "To finish".
- If the candidate passes, finish the write-up. The review screen opens with the submittal written. Use "Copy ATS note…" and paste it into the candidate record, and "Add CSV row" to log the screen.
- Between calls, clear "To finish" on the home screen: unnamed, unscored and unsent interviews, each with the button that finishes it.
Which features matter most on a light industrial desk?
| Feature | Why it matters for shift and site work |
|---|---|
| Must-ask questions | Shift, transportation, rate and certification stay pinned until asked, and ending with one open takes a typed END |
| "HR screen" kits | The generator is asked for about twenty minutes of talking, with few, shallow capability questions; trim it further for a seven-minute screen |
| Interview language | Spanish and 16 other languages for questions, transcript, scores and submittal; switch mid-call under "Mic & language" |
| "Contract / temp" template | "Available from" and "Rate" in the top lines, then fit for the assignment, relevant experience, risks and logistics |
| Verified quotes | What the candidate said about forklifts or pick rates reaches the client word for word, or not at all |
| "To finish" and the Start bar | Back-to-back calls without losing an unnamed or unsent screen |
| "Add CSV row" | One submittals.csv per computer with date, candidate, role, source, length, fit, must-asks covered, availability and recommendation |
One detail on pay: with "Contract / temp", the Bullhorn note picks up "Available from" but does not read the "Rate" line as compensation, so type the rate into the note before saving. Every export is explained in exports.
What about walk-ins and calls on a mobile phone?
- A walk-in at the branch. Choose "In person". The laptop microphone transcribes both voices, all labeled as you, so quotes cannot be verified against the candidate: areas come back "Probe further", scores above 5 are capped, and follow-ups and "Score as we go" do not start on their own. Press "Evaluate", add your own scores with "+", and press the refresh arrow for follow-ups. See in-person interviews.
- A mobile held to your ear. Only your voice reaches the microphone; the candidate is not transcribed.
- A mobile on speaker beside the laptop. Both voices reach the microphone, so it works like a walk-in; choose "In person". Phone setups are in Interview Signal for phone screens.
What does Interview Signal not do for light industrial staffing?
- No automatic knock-outs. It does not reject, rank out or message anyone; you decide when a screen ends.
- No texting, scheduling, onboarding or assignment confirmations.
- No checks. It records what the candidate said; certifications, work authorization, background checks and drug tests stay in your own process.
- No ATS integration. Notes are shaped for Bullhorn, JobAdder, Greenhouse and Lever and pasted by hand; for other systems, paste the submittal or attach the Word file.
- Desktop only, on Windows 10 or 11 or macOS 13 or newer, with no mobile app; phone screens must run through the computer.
- No video and no audio file.
- Unexported screens are not in the coaching report. It counts an interview only once its submittal has been copied or exported, so knock-outs you never export do not show.
- A newer product with few public reviews; try it on one live order first.
Which plan fits a light industrial branch?
| Your situation | Plan | Price as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Trying it on a live order | Free | 20 minutes of transcription in total, no card |
| Screening now and then | Pay as you go | 1 hour $9, 5 hours $29, 15 hours $69; counted by the minute while transcribing; never expire |
| One recruiter screening every day | Solo | $49 a month, or $468 a year; unlimited interviews |
| A branch of three or more recruiters | Team | $59 per seat per month, or $49 per seat per month billed yearly; minimum three seats |
Short screens add up: as an example, twenty eight-minute screens a day is over two and a half hours of transcription a day. The pricing page says that at about eleven hours a month Solo costs less than even the 15-hour pack. Team adds shared roles, the branch's own template, panels and a weekly coaching report; the agency setup is in Interview Signal for staffing agencies. Watch the walkthrough on the Try it page, then download the app.
Questions people ask
Can Interview Signal screen warehouse and forklift candidates by phone?
Yes, when the call runs through the recruiter's computer, for example in a softphone or calling app on it, so the candidate's voice plays through the computer's sound. A call on a mobile held to your ear is not captured, and a mobile on speaker beside the laptop puts both voices on the microphone, which limits the scorecard the way an in-person interview does.
Does Interview Signal automatically reject a candidate who fails a knock-out question?
No. Interview Signal does not screen out or disqualify anyone. Knock-out questions such as shift, transportation, pay rate or a required certification can be ticked Must ask, so they stay pinned at the top of the guide until asked, and the app asks you to type END before ending a call with one still open. The decision to stop the screen is the recruiter's.
Can Interview Signal run phone screens in Spanish?
Yes. As of October 2026 Spanish is one of 17 interview languages. Choose it under Interview language on the role before generating the kit, and the questions, live transcript, follow-ups, scores and submittal are all in Spanish. There is no bilingual mode: an interview runs in one language at a time, though you can switch it mid-call under Mic and language.
Does Interview Signal work with Avionté or Bullhorn?
It has no integration with either. As of October 2026 Interview Signal writes nothing into any ATS. Copy ATS note produces a note shaped for Bullhorn, JobAdder, Greenhouse or Lever to paste into the candidate record; for Avionté or another system you paste the submittal text, attach the Word file, or work from the CSV export.
