A saved role in Interview Signal is one job you are interviewing for, kept so that every candidate for it gets the same questions and the same scorecard. It holds the role title, the job description, the client brief, the kit (questions, must-asks, scorecard and consent notice) and the submittal template. "Save role" stores it on your Interview Signal account, so it appears on any computer you sign in on and, on the Team plan, for every recruiter on the account. Each interview takes its own copy of the kit when the call starts. This describes version 0.9.10, current as of October 2026.

What does a saved role contain?

PartWhat it holdsWhere you set it
Role titleThe name on the home screen and on every interview for the role"Role title" (required to save)
Job descriptionThe posting textPasted, or read from "Paste the posting link" with "Fetch"
Client briefAnything the job description does not say; it outranks the job description wherever they disagree"What the client actually wants" (optional)
KitQuestions in running order with "What a strong answer contains", Must ask and Keep ticks; scorecard areas with weights and rubric; the consent notice"Generate the kit", then your edits
Kit settingsThe interview language, interview type and difficulty the kit was written for, and which AI model wrote itChosen before generating
Submittal templateThe shape of every candidate's submittal for this role"Submittal template"

A role holds nothing about a candidate. Names, CVs, transcripts, scores and submittals belong to interviews, which stay on the interviewer's computer; see where your data is stored.

How do I save a role?

  1. Press "New role" on the home screen, or press N.
  2. Fill in "Role title" and the job description, add the brief if you have one, and press "Generate the kit". Building a kit from a job description covers this step in full.
  3. Choose the "Submittal template".
  4. Edit the kit until it is the interview you want to run.
  5. Press "Save role" at the top right. It stays greyed out until there is a kit, and without a title the app asks you to "Give the role a title."
  6. The app confirms "Role saved. Every recruiter on the team sees it." and returns to the home screen, where the role is in the Roles list.

Saving needs a connection, because the role is stored on your account. If it fails, the message starts "Could not save:" and the button comes back, with your kit still on screen, so you can try again.

Who can see and edit a saved role?

  • Free, Pay as you go and Solo. One seat, so your roles are yours, on any computer you sign in on. The pricing page lists "Your own roles, kits and templates" for Solo. The save message reads the same on every plan; on a one-person plan the team is you.
  • Team. Roles, kits and templates are shared across the account, and any seat, admin or member, can create and edit a role. See the Team plan guide.
  • The web account. At interviewersignal.com/app, the "Roles" tab lists every role with its number of questions, must-asks and scorecard areas, its version and the date it was last updated, plus "Open in the app", which opens that role's pre-interview screen in the desktop app once the app has the role (otherwise the home screen). Kits are created and edited in the desktop app, not in the browser; the web account guide covers the other tabs.

How do I change a saved role?

  1. On the home screen, rest the pointer on the role and press "Edit". The screen opens as "Edit role", with everything filled in.
  2. Change the title, job description, brief or template, or edit questions and scorecard areas directly.
  3. For fresh questions, tick "Keep" on the ones to hold and press "Regenerate questions"; with some kept it reads, for example, "Regenerate the rest (3 kept)" (example).
  4. Press "Save role".

The interview language, interview type and difficulty are recorded on the kit when it is generated, so changing those menus does nothing until you regenerate. To move a role from English to German (example), pick German, press "Regenerate questions", then save. The submittal template, by contrast, changes as soon as you save. Each time the kit itself changes, the role's version number goes up, and the web account's Roles tab shows it, for example "version 3" (example).

What happens to past interviews when I edit a role?

Nothing. When an interview starts, it takes a copy of the role's kit as it is at that moment, with its version number, and keeps it in the interview's own folder. The review screen, the scorecard and a rewritten submittal use that copy, so a candidate interviewed last week is still read against last week's questions and rubric.

  • Compare lines candidates up by scorecard area name across their own kits. An area you renamed between interviews appears as two rows rather than being merged.
  • Questions added during a call with "+ Add", or moved onto the guide with "Ask this", belong to that interview only; the saved role on your account does not change. To keep one for the next candidate, add it to the role with "Edit".

How do saved roles appear on the home screen?

Each role is a row that reads like a shortlist, for example "4 interviewed · best 8.4 · 1 sent" (example), or "12 questions · no interviews yet" before the first call. Click a role to see its candidates ranked by fit; "Start" and "Edit" appear when the pointer rests on it. The "Start an interview" bar offers the role you used last. Practice roles, added from "Add practice roles", are saved roles too, kept in their own "Practice" group. The home screen guide has the details.

Can I use saved roles offline?

The app keeps a copy of your roles and templates on the computer and refreshes it from your account each time it opens with a connection. Without one it opens with "Working offline. Your saved roles are here; new kits and scoring need a connection." Generating, saving and scoring all need the network, and so does live transcription during the call.

How do roles connect to templates, languages and panels?

  • Templates. The role decides which submittal template every candidate's document follows. Your own templates show "(yours)" after the name. If one is deleted in the web account, roles that used it fall back to your default.
  • Language. A role's own language wins. "Interview language" in Settings is the starting choice for a new role and the fallback for a role that has none; see interview languages.
  • Panels. On the Team plan, a panel is opened from a role's pre-interview screen and splits that role's questions, so everyone joins from the same role.

Limits

  • Version 0.9.10 has no button to delete or archive a role, in the app or in the web account.
  • Roles cannot be imported from an applicant tracking system; Interview Signal has no ATS integration, so you paste or fetch the job description.
  • Saving and regenerating need a connection.
  • On Free, Pay as you go and Solo, roles are not shared with anyone; sharing is a Team feature.
  • When free minutes or bought hours run out, new kits cannot be generated until you buy hours or move to a subscription, but every saved role stays.

Questions people ask

Where does Interview Signal save my roles?

On your Interview Signal account. A saved role holds the role title, job description, client brief, the kit of questions, scorecard and consent notice, and the submittal template, so it appears on any computer you sign in on. The app also keeps a copy on your computer so your roles are there offline. A role holds nothing about a candidate.

Can other recruiters on my team use the roles I save in Interview Signal?

Yes, on the Team plan. Roles, kits and templates are shared across the account, and any seat, admin or member, can create and edit a role. On Free, Pay as you go and Solo there is one seat, so your roles are yours alone, available on any computer you sign in on.

If I edit a role in Interview Signal, do my past interviews change?

No. Each interview takes its own copy of the role's kit when the call starts and keeps it in the interview's folder on your computer. The review screen and the submittal for that candidate keep using the questions and rubric the interview was run with, whatever you change on the role afterwards.

Can I delete a role in Interview Signal?

Not in version 0.9.10, the current release as of October 2026. Neither the desktop app nor the web account has a button to delete or archive a role. You can edit a role at any time, and the web account lists every role on the account under Roles.

How do I change the language of a saved role in Interview Signal?

Press Edit on the role, choose the new Interview language, press Regenerate questions, then Save role. The language is recorded on the kit when it is generated, so changing the menu alone does not change the role. Transcription, follow-ups, scoring and the submittal all follow the role's language.
