Interview Signal writes every client submittal into a template: one of five built-in formats (Exec one-pager, Technical, Sales, Executive search, and Contract / temp) or a copy your account has edited. A template is a short Markdown document with placeholders in double braces; the app fills the facts itself, such as the name, fit score, date, coverage and scorecard table, and the AI model writes the prose sections from the transcript, putting "Not discussed." wherever the interview was silent. Admins edit templates in the web account, and each role in the desktop app picks one. This describes version 0.9.10, current as of October 2026.

What are the five built-in templates?

All five open with the candidate and role as a heading, then a line with the recommendation and the fit score.

TemplateSections, in orderWhat sets it apart
Exec one-pagerWhy they fit; Strengths; Risks and what to probe; Compensation and logistics; Evidence from the interviewThe general format, with no role-specific section
TechnicalTechnical summary; Depth by area; Strengths; Gaps and risks; Environment and tooling; Compensation and notice; Evidence from the interviewThe scorecard table under "Depth by area"
SalesTrack record; Segment, deal size and cycle; Strengths; Risks; Compensation expectation; Evidence from the interviewA section for segment, deal size and sales cycle
Executive searchExecutive summary; Leadership and scope; Assessment against the brief; Strengths; Areas to explore further; Motivation, compensation and timing; Evidence from the interviewSubtitled "Confidential candidate report"; the scorecard table is the assessment against the brief
Contract / tempFit for the assignment; Directly relevant experience; Risks; Logistics; Evidence from the interview"Available from" and "Rate" in the top lines

The full text of each one is visible on the Templates tab of the web account.

Which placeholders can a template use, and what fills them?

PlaceholderFilled byWhat appears
{{candidate}}The appThe name typed before or after the interview; "the candidate" if none
{{role}}The appThe job title
{{fit}}The appThe weighted fit. Written as {{fit}}/10 it becomes, for example, "6.7/10 (4 of 6 areas scored)" when not every area was scored, or "not scored"
{{interviewer}}The appThe email address you sign in with
{{date}}, {{duration}}The appWhen the interview started and how long it ran
{{coverage}}The appFor example "9 of 11 questions, 3 of 3 must-asks"
{{scorecard_table}}The appA table of area, score and one-line assessment, with "(probe further)" on thin areas
{{footer}}The appThe account's saved footer, if it has one; otherwise empty
{{recommendation}}, {{availability}}, {{why_fit}}, {{strengths}}, {{risks}}, {{comp_logistics}}, {{environment}}, {{evidence}}The AI modelWritten from the transcript, your scorecard and your notes; "Not discussed." where the interview did not cover it

Because the facts are substituted before the model sees the template, it cannot retype a score wrongly or invent a section your template does not have. Any placeholder still unfilled at the end is replaced with "Not discussed." A placeholder that is not on the list is refused when you save, with a message naming it. How the prose is written, and the rules it follows on quotes, currency and gaps, is in the client submittal guide.

How do I make our own template?

  1. Sign in at interviewersignal.com/app as an admin and open "Templates".
  2. Find the built-in closest to what your clients expect and press "Duplicate and edit". An "Edit template" form opens below the list, with the name (for example "Technical (ours)") and the body.
  3. Rename it, then change the headings, their order and any fixed wording, such as a confidentiality line or your agency's sign-off. Keep the placeholders you want filled.
  4. Press "Save template". The page says "Template saved." and the new one appears without the "built in" label.
  5. In the desktop app, go back to the home screen, which refreshes roles and templates, open the role, choose the template under "Submittal template" (your own show "(yours)" after the name) and press "Save role".

On a template you made, "Duplicate and edit" edits that template in place rather than making a second copy, and adds "(ours)" to the name field again, so check the name before saving. "Delete" removes your own template after asking "Delete this template? Roles using it fall back to your default." Built-in templates cannot be edited or deleted.

How does the app use the template?

  • When the kit is built. The template chosen on the role is named to the model that writes the kit, so the scorecard covers what that document needs. Choose it before pressing "Generate the kit".
  • When the interview starts. The role's template is recorded with the interview. Changing the role later affects only interviews started afterward; "Rewrite" on an earlier interview keeps its own template.
  • When you press "End interview". The app fills its placeholders, the model writes the rest keeping the headings and their order, in the interview's language, and the review screen opens with the text ready to edit.
  • If the writing service cannot be reached. The app writes a plain submittal from the scorecard on your computer in a fixed layout, not your template. Press "Rewrite" when you are back online.

Who can change templates, and where are they kept?

Only admins see the buttons; members see the templates and their text. On Free, Pay as you go and Solo, the one person on the account is its admin, and the pricing page lists "Your own roles, kits and templates" under Solo and "Shared roles, kits and templates" under Team. Templates are stored on the account, so every recruiter on a team writes into the same formats. The submittals written from them are not: they stay on each recruiter's computer as described on the security page.

Limits

  • Templates are edited in the web browser, not inside the desktop app.
  • A template is text with Markdown headings. There is no place to upload a logo or letterhead.
  • There is no field for the footer in the web account today, so type any fixed closing text straight into the template.
  • One template per role. To send two clients different formats for the same job, save it as two roles.
  • There is no ATS integration; the finished submittal is copied, exported or emailed, as in the exports guide.

For writing a submittal by hand, without the app, see the candidate submittal template and the executive search candidate report template.

Questions people ask

What submittal templates does Interview Signal include?

Five built-in templates: Exec one-pager, Technical, Sales, Executive search, and Contract / temp. Each is a short Markdown document with fixed headings and placeholders. An admin can copy any of them in the web account and change the headings, order and wording to make the agency's own.

What placeholders can I use in an Interview Signal submittal template?

Seventeen: candidate, role, recommendation, fit, availability, why_fit, strengths, risks, comp_logistics, environment, evidence, scorecard_table, interviewer, date, duration, coverage and footer, each written in double braces. The app fills the facts itself, the AI model writes the prose sections from the transcript, and anything the interview did not cover becomes Not discussed. A placeholder outside the list is refused when you save.

Who can edit submittal templates in Interview Signal?

Admins, in the web account under Templates. On Free, Pay as you go and Solo the one person on the account is its admin. Built-in templates cannot be changed, only copied, and every recruiter on a team sees the same templates in the desktop app.

Does changing a role's template in Interview Signal change submittals already written?

No. The role's template is recorded with each interview when it starts, and Rewrite on that interview keeps using it. A new template choice applies to interviews started after you save the role.
