Sembly AI is a meeting platform whose agent joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and Webex calls as a visible participant, and whose recruiting page is built around client-facing output: branded candidate profiles, candidate comparisons and custom deliverables in each client's look. Interview Signal is a desktop app that captures the call from the recruiter's own computer with no bot, guides the interview while it runs, and ends with a scorecard whose quotes are checked against the transcript plus a submittal in the agency's template. As of October 2026 Sembly does not record phone calls and Interview Signal does not produce branded designs; neither integrates with an ATS. Choose Sembly for polished client documents from video interviews; choose Interview Signal for no bot, phone screens and evidence-checked scorecards.

We make Interview Signal. Everything about Sembly here comes from Sembly's own site and help center, checked in October 2026 and linked. For a longer look at Sembly alone, read Sembly AI for recruiting.

Bot or no bot: how each one gets into the call

Sembly's help center says it "joins Google Meet, Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams calls by URL" and "joins meetings as a meeting guest." It is deliberately visible: Sembly "appears as a visible participant with a name like 'Sembly Agent'" and does not record without others knowing. If guest chat is on, the agent also posts a greeting, which a workspace admin can edit or turn off, with Sembly's warning that you must then make sure everyone knows about the recording (in-meeting messages). For desktop users Sembly is a web app only, so there is no bot-free option.

That transparency is a real point in Sembly's favor: candidates see exactly what is in the room. The cost lands on client-hosted interviews, where the client's lobby and guest settings decide whether the agent gets in, and on candidates who ask why a stranger's name is in the call. Sembly lets Basic and higher plans rename the agent on Zoom and Teams, and Pro and higher on Meet (agent customization), which helps.

Interview Signal never joins the call. It runs beside Zoom, Teams or Meet, labels the microphone as the interviewer and the meeting's sound as the candidate, and gives you a read-aloud consent line, notice text by jurisdiction and a one-click pause. With no bot visible, the notice is entirely yours to give; our consent script has wording. This is not legal advice.

Phone screens and in-person interviews

For many agencies this decides it. Sembly's help center is plain: "Sembly does not record phone calls." Its suggested route is to record the call with a phone app or recorder and upload the file, which adds a step to every screen and a consent question about the separate recording. Sembly's mobile apps for iOS and Android do record in-person conversations.

Interview Signal captures phone screens through the computer's audio, so a softphone call works like a video call. It does not cover a call taken on a mobile handset away from the desk, and it has no mobile app for in-person interviews. How to record a phone screen compares the setups.

What reaches the client: branded deliverables or an evidence-checked submittal

This is where Sembly is genuinely ahead. Its HR and Recruitment page says "branded candidate profiles reach clients within hours of the interview, ready for recruiter sign-off." You paste a client's website URL and Sembly derives "their logo, colors, fonts, and tone"; each client account holds its own templates. Beyond profiles it lists candidate comparison tables, shortlist summaries, market maps, salary benchmarking reports and onboarding guides. If your clients judge you partly on how a submission looks, Interview Signal has nothing comparable.

Interview Signal's output is narrower and stricter. The submittal follows the agency's own template, and the scorecard behind it carries the candidate's quotes for each score, checked against the transcript, with any quote that is not in the transcript removed. During the call it adds a question guide from the job description, follow-ups with a reason, and a private answer check that flags answers reading as AI-written or read out; that check never changes a score and never goes into the submittal. Exports include Word, Markdown, a CSV row, email, Slack and next-round questions.

Whichever you use, a client document that looks finished still needs a recruiter's check line by line; the screen-to-submittal workflow shows where that check fits.

Where the data goes

Sembly hosts data in the US or the EU, according to its apps article, and keeps meeting history for 1 year on Basic, 2 years on Pro and without limit on MAX (pricing). By default meetings are not deleted automatically; a workspace admin can delete all meeting data, or only audio and video, after a set number of days (retention options). The pricing page says Sembly holds SOC 2 Type II, operates in line with GDPR, offers HIPAA on MAX and Enterprise, and lets every plan opt out of model training. Its recruiting page also describes an "agency-wide candidate knowledge base" that grows with every interview, which is useful and is also personal data you should put a retention period on.

Interview Signal keeps transcripts, quotes, candidate names, notes and submittals on the recruiter's computer; audio goes to a speech-to-text provider in short chunks during the call and is not retained, and the server keeps only counts and durations (security details). There is no shared candidate knowledge base, which is a privacy advantage and also means nothing carries over when a recruiter leaves unless you saved it to your ATS.

ATS integrations

Neither writes into an applicant tracking system. Sembly's integrations page lists CRMs such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive and Attio, project tools such as Asana, Jira and ClickUp, plus Zapier, webhooks and MCP, but no Bullhorn, JobAdder, Greenhouse or Lever. Interview Signal shapes notes for Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever or JobAdder and leaves the paste to you.

How much does each cost?

Sembly's plans, as of October 2026: a Free Trial with 1 meeting hour; Basic at $10 a month billed yearly or $17 monthly, for one user and 25 clients; Pro at $20 per user billed yearly or $29 monthly, up to 40 users and 100 clients; MAX at $30 or $39, 3 to 500 users; Enterprise custom from 10 users. Sembly costs less per seat at every size here. Count your active clients too: the client limit (25, 100 or 500) is a count of branded client accounts, so a busy desk can outgrow Basic before it outgrows one seat.

Choose Sembly if / choose Interview Signal if

Choose Sembly if:

  • Your interviews are mostly on video and a visible agent suits your candidates and clients.
  • Branded profiles, comparison tables and market maps are part of how you win clients.
  • You also record in-person conversations on a phone.
  • Price per seat matters more than structure during the call.

Choose Interview Signal if:

  • Clients block outside bots, or candidates are uneasy about one.
  • A real share of your screens happen by phone on a softphone.
  • You want a question guide during the call and quotes checked against the transcript after it.
  • You would rather candidate details stayed on your own computer.

A fair one-week test

1. Pick one client and one live role.
2. Run three video interviews: Sembly on one, Interview Signal on
one, and both on a third with the candidate's agreement.
3. Run one phone screen through each and count the extra steps.
4. Time the edit before each submission is fit to send.
5. Check every strength in each document against the transcript.

Questions people ask

Is Interview Signal a Sembly alternative for recruiting agencies?

Yes, for agencies whose problem with Sembly is the visible agent or the lack of phone call recording. Interview Signal captures calls on the recruiter's computer with no bot and covers phone screens taken through the computer. Sembly is stronger on client-facing documents, with per-client branding, candidate comparisons and custom deliverables. Neither integrates with an applicant tracking system as of October 2026.

Does Sembly join interviews as a bot?

Yes. As of October 2026 Sembly's help center says it joins Google Meet, Zoom, Webex and Microsoft Teams calls by URL as a meeting guest and appears as a visible participant with a name like Sembly Agent. On desktop Sembly is a web app only, so there is no bot-free desktop recorder.

Can Sembly record a phone screen?

No. Sembly's help center says it does not record phone calls; you would record the call with a phone app or recorder and upload the file afterwards. Interview Signal captures phone screens that run through the computer's audio, such as a softphone call.

Which is cheaper for a recruiting agency, Sembly or Interview Signal?

Sembly is cheaper per seat. As of October 2026 Sembly Pro is $20 a user a month billed yearly and MAX is $30 with a three-user minimum, against Interview Signal Team at $49 a seat a month billed yearly with a three-seat minimum. Sembly meters AI work such as deliverables with monthly credits; Interview Signal's plans meter transcription time.
