Lever ships its own AI notetaking at no extra cost, called AI Transcripts and Summaries, and a second, more advanced product called AI Interview Companion that came from Lever parent company Employ's 2025 acquisition of Pillar. On top of those, marketplace partners such as Metaview and BrightHire write structured notes into the Lever candidate record directly. As of September 2026 the choice mostly comes down to whether the included feature is enough, or whether you need coaching, sentiment tracking, or a standalone tool for calls that never touch Lever's calendar integration at all.
This page covers only what works with Lever: the two native products and how they differ, the marketplace partners that write back to the record, what to test with your Lever admin, and a note format that matches Lever's Feedback tab. Every vendor fact links to the source page we checked.
What Lever ships natively: two different AI products
Lever's own site and help center describe two separate AI notetaking products, not one. Confusing them is the most common mistake teams make when they ask "does Lever already do this."
AI Transcripts and Summaries (included in Core Lever)
- What it is: a transcription and summary feature built into Core Lever at no additional cost, described on Lever's AI Transcripts and Summaries help article and its Unlimited FAQ, as of September 2026.
- Capture: works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet for interviews scheduled through Lever. Phone calls are not named as supported.
- Where it lands: the full transcript and summary populate the Feedback tab on the candidate's profile.
- Admin control: Lever's help documentation describes turning the feature on for newly created jobs only, for all jobs, or off entirely, from Admin settings.
- Candidate notice: the scheduling email sent to the candidate carries disclaimer language and a link the candidate can use to change their recording consent, and an interviewer can edit that consent choice from the candidate's profile.
AI Interview Companion (formerly Pillar)
- What it is: Employ, Lever's parent company, acquired Pillar in 2025 and now sells it as AI Interview Companion. It is a separate, more capable product from the included transcription feature.
- What it adds: live coaching during the interview, talk-time and sentiment tracking, and flags for inconsistent scoring or language that may need review, on top of transcription and summaries.
- Setup: Lever's help center describes installing it as its own integration from Settings, separate from the Core AI Transcripts feature, even though both are now Employ products.
- Pricing: not published on the pages we checked. Ask whether it is bundled with your Lever contract or billed separately.
Suits you if you want one vendor and are willing to pay for the coaching layer on top of what Core Lever already includes. Think harder if the free transcription and summary already covers what your team needs, since Interview Companion is a second product to configure and budget for.
Where Lever's native tools stop
- Phone screens: neither Lever product names phone call capture. A desk that screens by phone needs a separate method for those calls.
- Calls outside Lever's calendar: both native tools depend on the interview being scheduled through Lever with a Zoom, Teams or Meet link attached. An ad hoc call booked outside that flow will not be captured.
- In-person interviews: not covered by either product as documented.
- Cost of the advanced layer: coaching, sentiment and bias flagging sit behind AI Interview Companion, not the included feature, so a team that wants those specifically should confirm current pricing before assuming it is free.
Marketplace partners that write into Lever, compared
These are separate vendors with their own integrations to the Lever record, not Lever's own products. As published by each vendor, as of September 2026.
| Tool | Where it is documented | Capture | What reaches Lever | Published pricing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metaview | Lever integration page | Joins video calls scheduled through Lever; phone via its switchboard (FAQ) | Structured scorecard auto-fill mapped to your Lever competencies, plus notes | Free 25 calls/mo; Pro $60/user/mo (pricing) |
| BrightHire | Lever Marketplace listing | Records and transcribes video interviews | Highlights, transcripts and summaries shared inside Lever | Not stated on the listing |
Metaview's page describes competency mapping specifically: it reads your Lever interview plan and tries to match candidate answers to the right rubric line before a human ever opens the scorecard. That is a step beyond a generic summary, and worth testing against your actual competencies rather than a demo script.
What to test with your Lever admin before rollout
| Check | Pass looks like | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Record matching | Transcript and summary land on the right candidate profile, not a duplicate | |
| Feedback tab placement | Shows in the same place interviewers already check for notes | |
| Scorecard auto-fill accuracy | Auto-filled competency scores match what a human would score from the same transcript | |
| Consent link | The opt-out link in the scheduling email actually stops the recording when clicked | |
| Job-level toggle | Admin can turn the feature off for a single sensitive requisition without disabling it everywhere | |
| Non-Lever calls | A screen booked outside Lever's calendar is either captured by a separate method or flagged as missed | |
| Two products at once | If you run both AI Transcripts and AI Interview Companion, notes do not duplicate on the same profile |
The scorecard auto-fill check matters most. A summary that reads well but scores a competency the candidate never actually addressed is worse than no auto-fill at all, because it looks authoritative. Have a hiring manager compare five auto-filled scorecards against the transcript before trusting the feature on a live requisition.
A note format that fits Lever's Feedback tab
Whichever tool writes into Lever, agree one structure so the Feedback tab reads the same way across interviewers. Use it as a template inside the tool, or write it by hand for calls the tool missed.
[Stage] – [Role] – [Date]
Recommendation: [Strong yes / Yes / No / Strong no]
Evidence by competency:

Tying each line to a named competency from the interview plan, rather than a general impression, is what makes an auto-filled scorecard checkable in a minute instead of trusted blind. Our candidate submittal template covers the agency-side version of the same idea.
Consent and admin settings before the first candidate call
- Read the scheduling email as a candidate would. Lever's disclaimer and opt-out link are only useful if candidates actually notice them; check what the email looks like before turning the feature on broadly.
- Decide who can edit a candidate's consent choice. Lever's help documentation describes interviewers editing the consent field directly on the profile, so agree who is allowed to do that and when.
- Use one spoken line as backup. An email disclaimer is not the same as verbal notice in states that require it. Our consent script covers the line to read aloud.
- Set retention on your own terms. Decide how long transcripts stay attached to a candidate profile, separate from how long the hiring decision itself is documented.
- Keep panel and pipeline meetings out of scope. If capture is enabled broadly, confirm internal debriefs and 1:1s booked through the same calendar are excluded.
Standalone tools and where Interview Signal fits
Some interviewers use a notetaker with no Lever connection at all and paste the result into the Feedback tab by hand. This is worth considering for phone screens Lever cannot capture, for interviewers who are not comfortable with a company-wide AI tool being turned on for every call, or while you are still deciding between the native products and a marketplace partner.
Interview Signal is in this group: it has no Lever integration. It is a desktop app with no bot, so it captures audio on your own computer the same way on Zoom, Teams, Meet or a phone screen, and it produces a scorecard with quotes checked against the transcript that you can paste into the Feedback tab. If you need the note to land in Lever automatically, choose AI Transcripts and Summaries, AI Interview Companion, or one of the marketplace partners above instead. General tools such as Otter and Fireflies work the same copy-paste way; see Fireflies for recruiting.
Who each route suits
- AI Transcripts and Summaries: teams that want transcription and a summary with no extra cost and no new vendor to manage, and whose interviews are scheduled through Lever on Zoom, Teams or Meet.
- AI Interview Companion: teams that want live coaching, talk-time balance and bias flags from the same parent company as their ATS, and are willing to budget for the add-on.
- Metaview: teams that want scorecards auto-filled against their own Lever competencies and a free tier to try it first.
- BrightHire: teams that already know BrightHire from other tools in their stack, such as Greenhouse or Workday, and want one interview intelligence vendor across systems.
- A standalone tool: phone-heavy screens, interviewers who prefer not to run a company-wide AI tool, or teams still evaluating before they commit to a Lever-integrated option.
Questions people ask
Does Lever have a built-in AI notetaker?
Yes, and it has two. AI Transcripts and Summaries is included in the Core Lever package and works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, as described on Lever's help center as of September 2026. A separate, more advanced product called AI Interview Companion, built from Lever parent company Employ's 2025 acquisition of Pillar, adds live coaching and sentiment tracking and is installed as its own integration.
Is Lever's AI Interview Companion the same as AI Transcripts and Summaries?
No. Lever's help center describes AI Transcripts and Summaries as the notetaking feature included with Core Lever. AI Interview Companion is the former Pillar product, acquired by Employ in 2025 and connected to Lever through its own installable integration, with real-time coaching, talk-time tracking and bias flagging that the included feature does not do.
Which third-party AI notetakers integrate with Lever?
As of September 2026, Metaview's own integration page describes capturing every Lever-scheduled interview and writing a structured scorecard back to the Lever record, and BrightHire's Lever marketplace listing describes recording, transcribing and sharing highlights inside Lever. Both are listed as native integrations, not Zapier connections.
Can a Lever notetaker capture a phone screen?
Not through Lever's own features. Lever's AI Transcripts and Summaries page names Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet only, with no phone option described. A desktop app that captures your computer's audio, used alongside Lever rather than integrated with it, is the usual workaround for phone-based rounds.
